Nick Wright, Rich Eisen and many more in the media make it sound like Russ is garbage based on one bad year - a lot of this is because they are cool with Sean Peyton. Russ’s worst year was better than Peyton and Eli Mannings worst, better than Drew Bree’s worst, Better than Favre’s worst, better than many that are held in hi esteem worst year. They want to talk about 1 bad year… In his last 4 seasons, Russ has thrown for 14,000 yards, a 99 passer rating, with 107 touchdowns and 37 interceptions; he’s also rushed for 1,300 yards and 10 TDs in that span. I don’t know what these clowns are looking for but it sounds like there is a really good QB in Pittsburgh.

Let's go!!! Denver is a mess. Look at them now. They are in full rebuild mode. They might be the second worst team in the AFC. Russ might not be a top 10 qb in a league with Mahomes, Burrow, Jackson, Herbert, Allen, Hurts, etc but he is capable and the Steelers with terrible qb play are still competitive. They lose nothing here. Two qbs that have started in the league for 4 mil???? Hell I think Mitch got more than that last year as a backup!!!! Good play.

So many of them also buried Russ the last 2 years so they can’t afford for Russ to bounce back. Because if/when Russ bounces back and solidifies his HOF credentials it’s going to put all those ppl who buried him under the microscope for doing so for only 1-2 seasons and why no other QB with his credentials has ever been so disrespected. Nothing could ever make them lose credibility more than that

The reason behind Wilson’s departure has more to do with his attitude than his production. Way too much came out of the last two locker rooms about him not joining team meetings and not traveling with the team. Add that to the fact players from Seattle and Denver both complained about Wilson’s groups of fluffers that didn’t allow access to Wilson if you were a teammate.

@@96phjams04 It's their *intention* to re-sign Wilson longer term (3-5 years? rest of his career?) because it is a shared intention for Arthur Smith to tailor the offense to Wilson (and Fields), for that offense to reliably work well (run first and in top half of league) and to win 12 or more games and win playoff games, all of which is quite possible given the Steelers defense which was top 5 in scoring with a crappy offense. Of course, it might not work out with Wilson.... But then there's Fields. I'm quite sure it is currently the Steelers *intention* to get to a Super Bowl with Russ and then to get back there with Fields within the next five years. If they can get Justin Fields to renegotiate the 5th yr option into a Jordan Love type contract, it is *possible* they could get their wish and keep them both long enough to make the smooth transition from HOFer to very promising young QB, the transition that was NOT smooth before, during or after Big Ben's retirement.

This was about 2 years or so ago. He asked for the leagues best scout that is the GOAT for figuring out a draft board and suddenly Andy Weidl was hired. Then he wanted to know if he eventually got rid of his offensive coordinator could he have one who hasn't won a Superbowl, but has the ability to win one if he gets the players he wants and he can have Total control of the offense to bring out the best of his abilities. His last wish was to have a couple quarterbacks while the Genie himself be the Steelers GM until the end of his coaching career 😂😂

Eisen needs to shut up! He seems to have forgotten how good Russ is. He’s not washed! There wasn’t anything on film suggesting it. Furthermore, I would expect Russ to work harder this offseason than he has in years. This is the fit. This one is going to work. Denver was a bad organization (still is), with too many holes in their roster, and they expected Russ to be their savior. He couldn’t be a savior with a HC who shouldn’t have been hired in the first place and a bad O-Line. Russ wasn’t set up for success in Denver. The Steelers aren’t stupid; they know he can still ball. These narratives about Russ’s playing ability are false. Even Sean Payton said Russ has a lot of gas left in the tank, he just needs to be used properly. Sean Payton wasn’t prepared to change his coaching to optimize Russ’s strengths, which is what Andy Reid did first Mahomes, and every other coach worth his salt does for a QB. Every QB is a system player…EVERY QB. There is no QB who can succeed in every system or on any roster. Pete Carroll, John Schneider, Sean Payton, and Warren Moon have all said Russ has a lot left in his tank. And this stuff about Russ in the locker room is way overblown. He handled himself like a pro in Denver. Hackett should never have been hired. I’m excited because Tomlin is like Pete Carroll: a players’ coach.

QB pressured, sacked, injured or running scared. WOs can't develop routes and its a mess. Fix it. We all see the DB allowing opponents that are pinned to 3rd and a mile and the DBs allowing a mile plus to give em 1st down?! Its INSANE. Losing to a lesser team? Eisen's a doof. They aren't going to purposely create another Trubisky-Pickett scenario by signing Wilson and having Pickett essentially quit because of it, only to bring in Fields and allow another QB controversy to start by going to him as soon as Russ throws a pick or has a bad game. Wilson is the starter and Fields was picked up for a 6th round bleeping pick, so all that get's him is shotgun at this point. If they do this right, the only time Fields gets a snap this season is if Wilson is injured or plays badly enough to warrant it. If fans are smart (which I'm starting to doubt is even possible), they keep quiet, trust the process and let it play itself out. No booing, and no chanting another QB's name at games before the season is 2 weeks old.

Deep down they know their biggest nightmare is now possible in Russ actually playing another 5+ years and getting 2+ rings like he envisioned

It's a fresh QB room and they're going with the guy who won a Superbowl and went to another. If Russell plays poor, they can start Fields, if Russell is good, Fields is the back-up. Not hard to understand, Rich. It seems like Wilson will be a bridge to Fields. I love hearing that the Steelers had eyes on Fields during his draft year. Couldn't be happier to see Crybaby Pickett shipped to the other side of the state. Here We Go Steelers!

These deals make sense for everyone involved. Do I think Pickett deserved another look, after the Matt Canada firing? Yes. Did the Steelers not really give Mason Rudolph the chance he deserved, no, they didn't. He got part of one year with a some brain damage, then felony assault with a deadly weapon by someone who accused him of being a racist. NOT a great year. Still he looked pretty good at times. All water under the bridge now. The best place for Wilson was in Pittsburg, which other team can get into the playoffs without good quarterback play AND they needed a QB? He was so cheap, it opens up a chance to go get some players. AND THEY DID. Filling some holes the team had. The only things left now are easily doable in the draft and maybe one more free agent.

As much as a aknowledge Dulacs opinion, I doubt there is going to be a real big name WR coming to town like JJ or Deebo. 1. The cap doesn't have room for that. The only way would be in a trade where you going to get rid of one of the hig payed defensive players, that is T.J., Cam, Mincah or Alex. I don't see that. Maybe Highsmith if Herbig is seen as a legit starter. 2. Pickens is your guy, but he also has attitude issues. I think he would take it really bad to have a big name infront of him. This could blow the locker room. 3. The draft is very deep in goid WR, why waste a big contract on someone, that you can also getnin the first three rounds?

This isn't a QB competition. Russ is their guy, but Pickett whined his way out of town. He didn't exactly do so at the ideal time, because the market thinned out. They still needed a number 2. Fields only cost a 6th in 2025. He is just a cheap backup, and that is all he is. They will probably use a Day 3 pick to take a number 3, and it won't be a competition with whoever that guy is either.
