Steele Road , Riccarton junction then Whitrope by Bike , then back via Saughtree Station.

A return trip to Riccarton but this time on my mountain bike , I attempt to cycle along the old Waverley route from Steele Rd to Whitrope sidings . Then from Riccarton to Saughtree station via the old Border Counties Route, this would prove difficult due to how overgrown in parts in this section.
A very Misty murky day but I can’t choose my days when I’m off work .

Fascunating stuff, and I love the preoccupation with the British weather, as we do!

Nice one Dave, great time of year to get off road, slow down a bit and take it all in. You also get a really good workout with the mountain bike. I'm using mine a lot to get to and from work off road 👌🍂

Great video Dave, I was recently on a three day road cycling trip in that area and called into Whitrope centre to look at the trains. This video has gave me an idea for a gravel ride 🚴‍♂️😀👍

@@tonypaddler I will wait until midge season is over, also give it time for the foliage to die back as it will be overgrown to hell. A cold frosty morning 😎🚲👍

@@davesolobiker5601 Oh yes, cold and frosty should hopefully mean firm ground. In about three weeks I'll be parking around Bonny Bridge and doing an overnight camp, cycling down to Steele Road via Riccarton Junction and back up via Hermitage Castle and Stobs Castle. I've just re-watched your video with Google earth and OS maps running to see if I could find alternative tracks to some of the road cycling on my route! Thanks again 🙂🚲👍

Yes there should be more of these routes on old disused railways and not given back to farmers if possible .
