When I was a boy (I’m 70!), my grandmother, Alice, baked an annual gingerbread house with a white sugar-frosted roof and candied orange and lemon slice shingles. ❤Very elaborate . It was given to one of three sets of cousins in rotation each year,(fair is fair). Thank you for reviving old memories of my childhood, and may your children remember the same decades from now!

I always have appreciated you sharing your journey of building your own home. But a special thanks for sharing the joy of watching Ellie’s love animals and the excitement of getting her Christmas gift. It made my day to see her joy, wonderment and thankfulness.

Ellie is in Heaven on Earth with that sweet gift. Phillip will get more attention and caring adoration from Ellie than anywhere else he could have possibly landed. Cutting those steel plates will be another arduous task with how much electricity they consume per cut. Maybe cut them outside the cafe... where you have electricity tied into an endless source. I was sitting on pins and needles when Ellie walked down to the barn and then right passed the donkey. She has such a big heart and cares for animals with everything in her. The boys are wonderful big brothers. They kept the secret and were very happy for Ellie when she saw Phillip for the first time. You guys are great parents and your children show it. Josh, you ever build model cars, airplanes or ships growing up? Do you remember how they would have nubs on one side of two pieces that fit together that would fit into a hole on the other side? Next year when you build your gingerbread house, let your nubs be the icing and poke holes in the gingerbread so the house holds together. The icing will dry eventually and if you try to just use the icing like concrete they will fall apart. You need to "anchor" the pieces together. Same goes for windows and doors made out of icing. Good luck.
