Steam Deck DIY Repair Fail - Can I Fix It?! I paid $350 for this broken Steam Deck. The seller said they dropped it and broke the screen, but then they replaced it and it worked for a while and then stopped working. Hopefully I'll be able to figure out what is wrong and get it working again.

I bricked my Steam Deck and it behaved very similarly. It turned out the bios was bad and I had to reflash the BIOS chip with a CH341 programmer, might be worth a look. Wishing you all the best as well, Steve!

This is exactly what I was thinking, this is behaving like a corrupted BIOS, possibly a power failure during a critical update mid bios flash, or just user error.
Get well soon, if the doctors are half as good as you at repairs then you have nothing to worry about. All the best.

Hey there, I'm the guy who sold you the deck! Very excited to see how this turns out. I was close to going down the "It bricked, let's try reflashing the BIOS" route but never pulled the trigger on it. Seemed just a tad too daunting for my experience level. Good luck! Wishing you all the best!

First off, I am praying for a speedy and full recovery. I was able to find this on reddit, and it didnt look like it was something you tried. Hopefully this works! First of all, I wish you all the best with your health. If I recall, the black screen is a known problem with the steam deck. You can try to refresh the bios via a programmer. Maybe that will fix it.
Good luck with your fight. I was diagnosed over 4yrs ago myself, chemo is definitely yucky, lol. I haven't lost my head hair but my legs are nearly hairless now. Best wishes and fight the good fight!

Steve, love you man. You're the reason I discovered my love of electronics and soldering. Now I'm into solar systems, building and fixing small electronics and toys, and it all started with watching your channel. Not to mention you're a good looking dude (bald or not). I appreciate you and how genuine and down to earth you are, it is comforting to see in an angry nerd dominated industry. I'm always excited to see a new video. wishing the best for you Steve!!
this looks like a known strange issue with the steamdecks, the black screen of death, as far as i'm aware nobody has figured out what's happening, but the thing is, in some units, if you let the battery drain completely, the screen will stop working with no way to bring it back regardless of what you do. Even a replacement does nothing, and the only solution i've heard of is getting it replaced with an RMA. Although I did see a reddit post where someone had some success messing with the BIOS. You can however try and see if you can get video out to a TV to check, as apparently the device should work perfectly other than the screen being dead! on the other hand, wish you a swift recovery!
