Stats & path to CRNA School

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Planning to apply to CRNA school can be extremely overwhelming and difficult! I explain the steps I took in my nursing journey to help set myself up for a successful transition from a nursing student, to a registered nurse, and now a student registered nurse anesthetist. I also created a PDF/ebook guide with behavioral and clinical questions/topics to help prepare you for CRNA school interview day!

    hi jessica!! I have a quick question about your externship because it’s fairly new to me but I am so inspired by your path! I decided to research a bit for local externships and most positions have a preferred qualification of BSN, was that also the case for you? But does an ADN suffice?

  • @JessicaSchell

    @JessicaSchell

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi grace ! And yes that’s usually the case. Externships are for juniors in a 4 year BSN program. I do not believe an ADN suffices, at least in my area/location.

    Did you have to take any classes as a prereq before applying? I'm starting to look at schools and some are requiring orgo chem and stats taken within the last 5 years of applying

  • @JessicaSchell

    @JessicaSchell

    3 жыл бұрын

    My school did not require any prerequisites, however other schools I was applying to required organic chem and stats. My stats course was taken within the last 5 years of applying so I didn’t need to take a stats course but I had to take a chem course online for one school. But at the end of the day, I took the course for one specific school and ended up not going there. However it’s better to take the courses to give you more options for schools! Also be sure to check with the institution if you decide to take an online course taught by another school if it would count towards prerequisites 👍🏻

    I’m currently a Nicu nurse and am interested in going to CRNA school but I worry about being able to get in due to the fact that I don’t have any adult experience other than nursing school… do you think I could still do it? Did you have some people that only did Nicu or peds in your program?

  • @JessicaSchell

    Hi kyndel! I totally think you can still do it, but I suggest maybe getting some PICU experience as well before applying to any programs. There are a decent amount of PICU nurses in my program specifically, however I do not believe anyone is my program was solely NICU.

    To be a crna it takes a great deal of passion for the profession. School is very demanding so you need to be very determined, motivated and willing to make sacrifices. In regard to actually practicing anesthesia, personality traits that match with the job are individuals who enjoy leadership roles, can critically think in fast paced and emergency situations, does well with great responsibility and autonomy while also still maintaining bedside manner and really caring for the patient in their most vulnerable time

  • @JessicaSchell

    Hi! Thanks so much for subscribing. To apply to CRNA school you need a bachelors of science degree in nursing. The actual CRNA programs are doctoral so you will apply with a bachelors and come out of the program with a doctorate. I’ve never seen nor heard of programs accepting abroad students/having abroad friendly programs. I believe if you wanted to go to CRNA school in the US you’d have to get your nursing license in the US first and work here before applying to school.
