A step by step description of how to sum forces and moments on a free body diagram. I start with a simple physical example and work all the way through the problem.

Very helpful, thank you. I have been struggling to be able to break down how to solve these problems and this did that for me.

At 11:42, you say counterclockwise moment is positive. At about 12:05, you said the one newton force exerted a counterclockwise moment; should be clockwise, however you used the right sign convention. Don't mean to nitpick, but wanted to clarify.

Hello sir, I have a small long-standing doubt. Around 3:50, you said that the top of the body can rotate (around the pin boundary condition) while the bottom of the body can't (the bottom can only go up-and-down on the roller boundary condition). My doubt is, if we rotate the top of the body (e.g. counter-clockwise), won't the bottom also move away (to the right, in this case) from the plane (in addition to moving upwards on the rollers? If yes, won't stopping the bottom of the body from moving away ensure that the top can't rotate too? Hence there can be no pin on the top boundary condition? Thanks in advance for your time, and REALLY thankful for your videos! With greetings from Germany :) Vikrant Srivastava
