STATES and TERRITORIES in AUSTRALIA: What are the differences? | AUSSIE LAW
Have you ever noticed that some territories, like the Northern Territory (NT) looks like a State? Why is it that the NT is not a State? Or, better: What are territories? What are the differences between an Australian State and an Australian Territory?
We will look at the history and legal system of Australia to find the answer to these questions. What does the Constitution of Australia say? Is there anything in the Australian Constitution that can help us distinguish between Territories and States?

Very useful
I feel very smart for saying "three territories", even though I missed the seven off-land territories.
Luv your videos ...thank you for creating this channel.

Thank you for you comment, Javier.
Why is it named "self governed" for the territories, when they actually get ruled by the federal government ? So they actually not govern themselves. Is a state self-governing since they have their own parliaments etc?
Are you sure Norfolk Island is self governed? It is my understanding it was self governed but the Federal Government appointed an administrator against the wishes of the Territory Residents. I thought it only had a local council remaining.
Many thanks for the video, it's really insight and informative. Regarding the ACT, I see that most of the Cth bodies/organizations e.g. Australian Institute of Sports etc., are established in the ACT, not in other territories. Do you know of there is any reason for that? or there is any authority requires such organizations to be established in ACT? Thank you so much.

I am not aware of any determination in that regard. I don't know for sure. My guess is that it is interesting (politically) to be close (even geographically close) to the institutions of high politics.
