STATE OF MIND with MAURICE BENARD: EILEEN DAVIDSON

Ойын-сауық

My conversation with Eileen Davidson was very emotional. We talked about everything, Housewives of Beverly Hills, Soap Operas, mental health, relationships, bipolar, etc. She was an open book and I absolutely loved having her on.

I'm a big fan of Eileen and watched her when she was on Housewives. She was way too smart to be on that show and I give her credit for lasting as long as she did. I also experienced a lot of loss and her candor was very consoling and relatable. I'm glad she back at Y&R. She adds a special degree of talent but more importantly, compassion to the show. Great interview, Maurice and thank you.

This is such an incredible, credible conversation between two adults honestly dealing with their stuff. I relate to Eileen so much - youngest in a big family, Catholic, shame played a huge role. I remember Eileen being on RHOBH and Vanderpump kind of cornered her and asked her these really pointed, inappropriate, uncomfortable questions about how she met her current husband who seems to be the love of her life. And Vanderpump was trying to make her uncomfortable and the circumstances seem tawdry. And after that conversation, Eileen kept trying to "clear up" that convo and Vanderpump was rolling her eyes at Eileen like are we still talking about this? And when Maurice made that connection of shame = caring what people think and the more you can eliminate that, the healthier you get. Eileen, I think kept trying to "correct" the original conversation because she had shame about how Lisa made her feel. I get it. Oh, man, do I get it. This is amazing.

I was talking with a friend about my dysfunctional family - it's hard for some people to hear who have had perfect families. I have great sympathy and respect for my mom and dad too - they did the best they could with what they were dealing with. Some people blame their parents for everything in their life - I thank mine because I learned what not to do when I became an adult.

You both hit the nail in the head with the shame surrounding bipolar, anxiety and depression! It’s sad that it’s such a real thing! My dad was as diagnosed with manic depression when I was 10. This was in 1985 and although I didn’t understand it at the time, I remember him feeling so much shame. It was because of my memories of him living with manic depression that I didn’t tell anyone for years into adulthood that I had depression and anxiety because of the shame he felt that I later also felt. I eventually was able to seek treatment. And in 2021 just a few months before he died, I finally got as able to talk to my dad about what he went through with his manic depression and he helped me understand more about my what I was going through. More people need to know that it’s ok to not be ok and that there is no shame in needing and seeking help!

Maurice, I am watching this from the other side of the world, where it is already Monday. I stopped watching Daytime Dramas 2 decades ago, as I outgrew it. However, I have always had huge respect for the talent of those who work in it. Eileen, has always been one of my favorites …. yet, she is so much more interesting and lovely as a human being than any character she could play. It is always enriching to get to know your guests as people, their stories, challenges and how they overcame what life throws at them. Here is a woman whose life has been completely different from my own, and yet so many experiences in common! This was a great conversation, thank you!

In 2010 my aunt passed away leading me and my family to move to florida. 2011 I lost my closest friend to a heroine overdose at 17. 2013 my church friend died in a motorcycle accident. Sept 1 2013 my best friend took his own life. A month later my aunt passed from stage 4 cancer. Teaching us yachikoham( i love you in polish) 2017 my favorite band singer passed two months before my grandpa passed two days after I flew from Florida to see him from dementia. I got married in 2020 but a few months or a year later my father in law has the worst stage 4 cancer. His last words through the phone was I love you and Luis (my family friend) and since then I have struggled more and more but hearing this interview helped enlightened some spirits back. Thank you so much

She's always been one of my favorite actresses on young the restless, and then when she played multiple characters on days of our lives, especially the crazy cuckoo Ones, she would make me laugh. She's very talented, and when he said she was on Beverly Hills housewives, how could she? She's too damn nice to be on that show because those women are mean she's not like that. I've never seen it because i don't have cable, but when i did, she wasn't on there yet. I'm really shocked to find that out.🫨 oh, and i learned she is the youngest out of the 7 siblings, and this was a great interview.🩷🩵

Such a great interview. I am a couple of years older than her and when she started talking about the time she grew up in and how her Father never got help for his mental health, it mirrored my own life with my Dad. I believe he was also a non- diagnosed manic depressive. But men during that era just didn't get help. That's why these discussions are so vitally important today. Maybe we won't have men going through so much emotional pain and they will understand that there is no shame in reaching out for help. And what she said about shame was so spot on. All true. We all have it. And once you learn the tools to release it, the liberation and freedom you find is amazing. It's literally life changing! ✨💌🕉️

I've always felt a connection watching her onscreen. I think living through a traumatic childhood is what help people become great actors cause they can "feel". Empathize with their character and convey it through the screen. When she told about the psychic relaying the message from her father I cried, omg. Thanks, Maurice. Listening to Eileen tell her stories got me in tears! Sometimes u don't look at the actors with problems outside of the actors they play on the the shows! We forget for a moment that they have a life outside of there TV characters! Thanks again Mr. BARNARD FOR DOING STATE OF MIND! AND HAVING SO MANY INFORMATIVE GUESTS ON YOUR SHOW! CONTINUE WHAT YOU ARE DOING ! WE LOVE YOU AND STATE OF MIND ! GOD BLESS YOU ❤️🙏

She's fantastic! I love her defense of the soap life. As she says, it's been good to her and she's still a working actress in her 60's. I wrote for s soap and enjoyed the work but was forced out of the job by a producer who thought she could bully me into doing something else. Hope to go back to it some day. Great interview!

Words cannot express how thankful I am for this enlightening conversation. Eileen, you are such a beautiful soul. Thank you so much for sharing so much of yourself with all of us. By having these types of talks helps out so many. We need to keep ending the stigma that surrounds mental illness. Their is no shame in it. I grew up with a parent with bipolar and I related to much of what you said. I'm so happy I stumbled on to Maurice's channel. You are helping out so many people. It's a beautiful thing!!
