If you are able to afford to mend the kitchen stove and chimney, it will help heat the whole house. The central chimney breast acts like a storage radiator, and the whole house will be more liveable. Think l speak for everyone when l say l would contribute to a crowd fund. It would not require anything from you in return, but would be funded with good wish for your comfort. And that stove is really cute lol!

Happy Birthday.😄🎂🥂🎊🎉. It’s going to fabulous when you get this room done. I hate to be devils advocate, but I really think you should make the chimney re- build a major priority. Now with the weather improving, it would make good sense to get this major job done with. It will make next winter much easier for you too. 🙂

There is a moth whose caterpillars can also occur en masse (Lymantria dispar, Spongy moth). They eat whole trees bare. However, once they have finished eating and pupate, the trees will recover on their own. The problem will probably solve itself without having to thwart this insect!! Isn't there a farmer nearby who can help you work part of your garden? Once you have sown the herbaceous plants, it is often a good idea to mow part of the area early. In other words, phased mowing. Doing this before the grasses can set seed will suppress the grass and give the herbaceous plants a chance. An early mowing also means that those herbaceous plants will probably still bloom in the autumn. Of course, then you need good weather (rain) during the summer, but that is not known in advance. Good luck.

The drone footage is great. Watching the birch fill in the landscape with fresh acid green is so satisfying. Maybe a SAD lamp for next winter? You've moved quite far north. I'm in Glasgow and I was living in the home counties in England before moving here 10 years ago. The longer, darker, colder winters take some getting used to. Vitamin D supplements, getting as much winter sun as possible and the SAD lights, all help. But that sense of relaxing when sun finally starts to warm you is such a relief.

Thank you for bringing us on your journey!! what a project! As an avid gardener, I love that you are incorporating wildflowers! If you are looking for advice with regard to the turf, (If you're not looking for advice; I also completely understand!) - I personally have stopped removing turf, and instead sheet mulching it. Most of the beneficial nutrients and soil life are in the first few centimeters, so it is better for plants not to remove it. I personally find it easiest to do this with secondhand cotton bed sheets that I get from thrift shops, and mulch (leaf mold, earth, wood chips, compost or whatever you find in the forest) on top. Just sow your flower seeds directly in there. You can cut little holes in the fabric for biggest plants, After a few seasons, the fabric and grass underneath it will have composted nicely. - If you want to remove turf, you can place the turf upside down in a pile ( so the grass doesn't keep growing) and they will turn quite quickly into really good soil for your garden. also makes for a good filling of raised beds if you'd want them. best of luck, the place looks great!!

I think it makes perfect sense to have a private function share space with a potential socializing function per room rather than have one private room and one more formal. If you have company for both dining and living room on the same day, the house will feel bigger if it's not all in the same room.

It makes sense to have a sofabed in the living room which will be your relaxing space. I think that you are marvellous to fit everything around your day job. To get rid of unwanted pests like beetles, attract the birds...I have seen it and it does work. even if you make your own birdseed bird food. They will eat the pests. The more birds, less unwanted bugs. On another note, your little cottage is just so sweet, and you are doing an amazing job with it, your little guesthouse was so great to watch. You, Rosie, so a great job of prioritizing. It’s hard to shift gears sometimes! In the summer, the outdoors; gardening, cutting grass, clearing shrub, cutting firewood, painting outside structures all takes priority over the inside work. It’s like this for everyone! My mom used to say, in the summer, the inside work suffers! I don’t worry anymore about getting EVERYTHING done because it’s not practical. One does what’s needing to be done at hand. The rest will get done later.

Hi, I'm not sure if it's already been suggested, but I would recommend putting in a birdbath to attract birds into your garden. It's worth researching because placement and things like depth etc are important for a successful birdbath, I have 2 and they not only attract birds but also bring me a great deal of joy and entertainment.

A birdbath would be cute. I have lots of birds here so it might become a hotspot for them! 😍

Use a sprayer, like the ones used to spray that you pump up for pressure. Spray that bug killer upwards into the trees that have bugs, or on bushes, but yes a sprayer will work and there are more natural sprays that you can use.

Yes, you must be overwhelmed, but you have done it before and you will do it again. You are not a quitter for sure and you have all of us behind you and cheering you on. I, for one celebrate each time you complete a project.

Happy birthday Rosie🎂🍩🌷, and I can see you are busy but remember to think that another winter with extreme cold is coming and you need to get warm in your body if you don't end up with arthritis. I think it must be terrible to go around doing something in such a cold where the hands become stiff and cold. The chimney must also be fixed in warm weather so that there is no frost damage from the start. What about a steel chimney would be cheaper. I could hear how you had a hard time this winter with the cold, so I pray that you can find a solution to the problem as I actually think it is absolutely terrible for you to face another extreme winter cold. Can't wait to see your next projects because the guest house turned out incredibly nice,❤🙂

I'm getting the chimney fixed so hopefully that will be able to heat the house this coming winter! Then I can DIY inside, that would be such a luxury!
