Old engines ( and old diesels ) the best! This is so satisfying to watch

The one of these that came in my 84 VW 2-door...worn out. Had to cycle the glow plugs even in 100F summer temps. But still I gave me mid 40s mpgs. When I finally had to open it up after 6mo of ownership...well let's just say to measure the ring gap you'd be deciding on how many feelers to remove from the set. Have a taper on all cylinders w/ #3 being the worst. My compression was about 325-330....wet test added another 80-90.

Say no to common rail.
