Bro, as a homeowner, father of 3, and starting a farm... you got a LOT done. If you just bought stuff and installed it, maybe you could've gotten more done. But engineering, designing, improving, laying out... all that stuff takes time. People under appreciate the effort it takes to get where you've gotten. My garage, a year and a half into moving, still looks like garbage and I still have unpacked boxes. My CNC is still half unassembled with upgrades in sealed boxes waiting to be finished. You're doing great, looking forward to the new videos.

I enjoyed all the updates... but thank you especially for the tape gun holder at 17:40. My tape gun has been hanging upside down from a hook for 10+ years and it's always annoyed me. I've had a 3D printer for a long time, and even made some custom tool holders, but this one never dawned on me. I will be replicating this ASAP.

Same here, setting up a shop and worked through all the storage and infrastructure in 2023. I went with VCT flooring, not great with sawdust but super durable, redid my electrical that was hanging off the ceiling, and got some amazing old cabinets from the Habitat ReStore that came out of an old chemical lab. Shop organization is hard because it doesn't feel like anything specific comes out of it, but long run it makes it more enjoyable to spend time there, and our shops are our happy place, it makes sense to spend the time and money to make them what we want.

Thank you for Sharing. As a retired Vet, I took a chance on a cnc and then found your videos/content. You are an inspiration and I now have a decent shop of my own. Not in business, nor profit of any type(just an LLC for tax credit of the entire shop)...I enjoy creating, failing...lol, and learning. This is a great system to grow with and your imagination is the limit. Now if I can only figure out how to cut/etch on thin plastic sheets instead of hardwood.🤣 Congrats to you and your loved ones on being a home owner too. My company motto- "Follow Your Dreams"

Congrats!! So much living. New bride, new home, new shop, new goals. That is what - at least 4 achievements unlocked. You run in the same circles as my friend backpack printer Mitch3d. Please more fusion cam content. We are both working on becoming comfortable and then more in it

I have done this whole thing twice in the past 8 years. Bought house, renovated it and turned a large room into a workshop in the basement. Less than a year after finishing the shop bought other home and in hell doing it all over again while my shop is a 10x 12 shed in the backyard. At least I have my tools! Take your time and do it the way you want!

Mate, from all the way in Australia, its like looking at a mirror. The situation about balancing family, work and space is the same issue I am tackling as well. My single car garage houses my racing sim, CNC, 3D printers, sandblaster, compressor, storage, as well as family storage, second fridge and a bunch more stuff! Finding ways to make things fit, constantly reshuffling when new toys are purchased and *attempting* to make it as safe and quiet as possible is always a challenge. Props for getting that far, because it is a *LOT* harder than people think it is. Much love from the land down under mate, and look forward to the next one.

My home shop was located in my laundry room. I had a Tormach CNC mill, a full sized gunsmithing lathe and all of my other metal working machines and tools in that one laundry room. If you were to split your shop in two from the front to the back of your garage, that's about how big my shop was. I would have loved to have had a shop the size of your new garage. Most of my machines were literally arm's length away from each other. When I retired I sold nearly all of my machines thinking I'd have no more use for them. Boy was I wrong. Now I'm slowly getting back to my roots with just smaller desktop machines. Best of luck with your new home and shop. May you prosper beyond your wildest dreams.

Congrats on the move and the house and family!! Everyone should make something, ...... anything, at least once in their lives. That way, we get a "gut feel" for how long it takes to do almost ANYTHING worthwhile! We can also understand what an accomplishment it is to organize people and resources to do a big project (such as the Tesla Model3)

I don't care if it seems weird! I am excited to see your friendly face talking to me on KZread, Winston! :) I am pretty excited about those T5-size LED tubes. I discovered them about a month ago. I designed a little 3D-printed doodad to mount three of them behind the TV in my home office to bounce some light off the ceiling. When I rearranged the furniture, I lost most of the light on my desk surface, and I didn't have anywhere good to stick a lamp. The tubes are doing a fantastic job of making me feel like I am not in the dark, and you don't even know they exist when they are off. I don't know how much of a difference there is between brands. I chose mine based almost solely on which particular electrical interconnects were included in the set, and I didn't see anything in the listings that would make me believe that any one brand had actually better CRI than another. Mine are short on red and heavy on green light. I sometimes look at my hands and wonder if I am ill, but then flip on a video light and see all the pink in my skin, and I can tell that I am OK. These inexpensive and easy to install tubes are mostly advertised as work or shop lights, and they are fantastic for that. Anyway, it is good to see you back on KZread Winston! Hey Winston, great to see you making again. I also have a small (3 x 3 meter) shop and one thing that revolutionized storage for me was building a rack of organizers (for small-ish parts), inspired by Wesley Treat (search youtube for Sorta Sortimo). It doesn't have to be two-column or even full height, or out of wood (I made mine from aluminium profiles), but the space efficiency is insane compared to on-wall mini drawers or vertical racks. I use it for bolts, endmills, collets, screwdriver bits, stepper motors, electronics, maker stuff (box hinges), sand paper rolls, audio gear (adapters, jacks), even some tools (transfer punches, letter punches), basically everything small. Plus it's dust-proof.

Oh man, I've been desperately looking to make something like that. I have a stack of Dewalt boxes on a shelf, and having to get to something on the bottom of the pile is a terrible experience. I end up with organizers strewn all over the floor just to get a bolt...

I think you have managed to achieve more in the last year than many of us managed in the last five, don't be so hard on yourself.

About the cheapest and most adaptable storage system for tools etc. I recommend looking into the French cleat system, very easy to make and remain movable at all times as you expand. Great for saving wall space and not encroaching into your workspace. There are many videos on KZread with some great ideas.

After you get the house air-conditioned, you will want to consider a mini-split for the garage. I have one for my motorcycle shed and its wonderful. And its cheap to run since I don't keep it at human happy temps full time. I keep it warm enough to keep the rust down, about 50 in the winter, and take the edge off in the summer, about 89. When I am going to work for a while, I can adjust the temp a few hours before I go in.

Congrats on getting married! My wife is the best person that ever happened for me. Was wondering where you went off to. Buddy of mine bought his 1st CNC router to learn on, a Shark, so we were just talking bout your channel yesterday. Saw the Wera & Knipex on the wall. Those things are like Lays potato chips. Bought a set of Wera hex keys to remove factory stripped screws (very soft metal) on my old Shapeoko (replaced w harder screws) fell in love w the Wera hex wrenches. Tried one of their screwdrivers…from there was hooked (there is a Japanese brand, Vessel, driver I like as well). Anyways, back way before the virus of unknown origin: after 3 days of going through Wera’s website and all their “bundles”, etc, there are now just shy of 50 Wera drivers in the shop, electronics desk & model room. Knipex, that’s a collection still in progress 😁. So for Wera/Knipex just like Festool (& Kira Toga Roulettes, but that’s another topic): Cry once, but once. Glad to see things are going well for you!

Great to see you back here, Winston! I think we need to see more of your dogs. During the intro, I was wondering what animal you had the gate for in the partially-opened door, and was pleasantly surprised you showed the pooches. I gotta tell you that you that you are one of the personalities that inspired me to explore CNC milling as a hobby, and as an evolution to my maker skillset. I love that you have grown from a self-taught hobby machinist, and your videos contain the kind of detailed explanation of your thought/design/build processes that really appeal to people who never stop learning new things. You kind-of hinted here that there may be kids around your shop in the future- and as a father of two myself I can say that there are few things more rewarding than teaching design/build skills to young minds. You would be fantastic at it. There was a time when I thought I should make video content as well, though It took enough away from my joy of the actual project work that developing a channel is no longer a goal. Because I have learned so much from this form of media, though- I think there is value in sharing knowledge and project ideas, and I too have hours of B-roll video on my phone from various projects that I might one day be able to show off. I'm not here for self-promotion or anything, but I think you'd laugh at a video I made a few years ago- making a carbon fiber name tag for my dog. It's an amateur copycat of a Winston Moy style production. Anyway, Cheers on the new digs, and I'm glad you haven't forgotten developing your Franken-oko machine- I am excited to follow along with that and see where you take it!

Home ownership and marriage brings with it a huge load of new responsibilities and opportunities. Seems like you’ve still managed to get a lot accomplished. If you ever get pack to East Peoria check out the Caterpillar Museum. I might be able to arrange a tour of some manufacturing facilities to see some ultra large CNC machines (ride along with the HMI).

Great to see you posting again. Workshops are never finished. They are in an of themselves a work in progress. I can't count the number of times I've set up a shop, organized it, used it for a while, then totally started over again but with the knowledge gained from the process. It's not a race to get to some kind of perfect place, it's just a space to be, to think, and to create. And, yeah, wandering into your own shop at night, when the world is asleep to just tinker or think is a wonderful thing.

I love the clips you made for the tool-wallmount. Here in sweden I have not seen them localy so I have to stick to the old ones I can buy with just holes, but I love how simple you made it look and now I might also try and design something to easier fit all my needs. I don't own a large 3d printer but I am a woodcarpenter so I can work with wood, or at least know how to add things together. Thanks for the awesome video, and to share your experience where you meet so many awesome content creators! I would have loved to also be able to meet the ppl mentioned, but glad you shared it with us. Stay awesome!
