Same! I have got an Opel Ascona C with the 16DA engine. Quite slow but the most reliable car ever. Needs about 5-5,5 l/100km, needs no Oil (have 149.000 km, but I don't know exactly..could be 249.000 km or more too), and everything is easy to repair or service.. I also have had an Opel Kadett E with the 17D-engine. Just had 3 hp more but felt like a rocket compared with the Ascona. It had an 5-gear-gearbox and needed about 4,4-5,5 l/100 km. Had to sell it one month ago (bought it in September 2023) because I didn't need two cars, and I felt bad to use it in winter on salty roads. Bought it from a 94 yo lady who bought it new in 1990. Was a garage car with just 98.000 km!! But the Ascona is my baby and I never give him away. I think I will buy an Opel Frontera/Monterey/Campo for the next winter so I dont need to drive the Ascona during our Austrian salty winter... These 70s, 80s and 90s Opel are so lovely. Quite indestructible, very reliable and so good-looking. One day, if I find one, I will buy an Opel Ascona B 2.0D or an Opel Rekord E 2.3D or 2.3 TD. Also cool would be a Senator Comprex Diesel. (If you don't know it, google it..extremly cool!)

Greetings from Spain I had an Opel Astra 1.7 Isuzu Turbo Diesel engine, from 1998, it has the same engine as the unit in the video but with a turbo. Regarding the engine, I did not have any problem, as for the external elements, some, but few... The starter motor failed once, the steering box had a hydraulic leak and the alternator also failed once, which caused the same failure that appears in the video unit, it does not charge, that is why the battery warning light is on and The rev counter doesn't work because it takes the signal from the alternator. As for the rust, nothing is a problem, and that he made trips to the maritime areas very frequently and from time to time to the snowy mountains ... As for the interior, the talks and adjustments hold up very well over time except for the ceiling upholstery that ended up hanging... but that is a typical fault in many cars of all makes of the time. That if my car always slept in a covered garage. And the metallic paint shone like new. I think that unit has rusty bottoms because it circulated a lot on snowy roads that had deposited salt to be able to travel them. With 170,000 km I donated it to my father who lives in a town. He practically spends 6 months resting in a garage and when summer arrives he connects the battery and starts almost instantly. In addition, he is passing all the mandatory ITV inspections to be able to circulate. In short, a good car...of which I have good memories.

@module79l28

I was surprised it had two airbags considering it's a low spec model: no electric windows, no electric door mirrors, no A/C, no front fog lights... Someone replaced the original door mirrors with the ones from the facelift model, though, the original were more square and painted in the same colour as the body. 🙂

The Astra F is pretty much the successor of the famous Opel Kadett, I'm surprised they changed the name as this generation carried many traits from the previous Kadett. One of which was the many body styles, you could get something from a hatch, all the way to a van. And also, I heard those horse flies flying around so be careful! Their bites pack a wallop.
@twocvbloke

It was part of GM's unifying of names in the 90s, a lot of the UK Vauxhall marques were lost and took on the Opel names (Nova to Corsa, Cavalier to Vectra, Carlton to Omega, etc.), the Astra name was about the only name that went the other way, taking over from Kadett, and given Astra is latin for Stars, it sounded better than some low-level military-rank... :)

Here in Brazil, these Astras sold by Chevrolet became known as (Belgian Astra) because it was imported from Belgium, it arrived here at the end of 1994 as a 1995 model, only in the 4-Door Hatch and 4-Door Station Wagon version, they remained until 1996 and only returned with its new generation in 1998, it is very rare to find a whole one here, most are falling apart, as a curiosity the car's engine was placed here and when it went to Belgium they assembled it and came back with the Brazilian engine without any changes to the engine in this case it was the 2.0 MPFI

Imagine starting a car after 8 years outside and it runs so smoothly
We had an Opel Astra F for almost 9 years. It was comfortable and had a lot of space. It went well...if it was able to do it, as it had technical problems many times. My father sold it for only 200,000 FT (500 dollars). I know there were a lot of problems with that car, but I miss it.

@@lukasdobrodej6310 My dad bought a new Astra F Caravan (Station Wagon) on April 1997. Engine 1.8-16V (X18XE), automatic tranny and "Winter Package". he drove the Astra till 2007 when he (sadly) passed away. from this point i drove the Astra till 2015, than i scrapped it because the car fell literary apart to rust and failed the security inspection in germany. the odometer shows 384.000Km. it was smooth to drive, reaches 220Km/h, had a lot of space and was very reliable. the Astra survived 4 crashes (2 caused by other drivers, 2 by myself). today i miss it.

Добротная крепкая машина, какие сейчас не делают, даже подсветка бардачка работает. 👍 Немного подварить, обслужить, обновить лкп и отъездит ещё полсотни без проблем.
I like these cars. I think they’re the golden age in car history. Thanx for this romantic video!
I am still using a 1992 Vectra 1.7TD ısuzu, I love my car
I've had Opels like that before! low fuel consumption, very soft and energy-efficient running part, you don't feel potholes at all!
Cool to see a pre facelift Astra F with a turbo diesel engine and two airbags.
@module79l28
7 ай бұрын
I was surprised it had two airbags considering it's a low spec model: no electric windows, no electric door mirrors, no A/C, no front fog lights... Someone replaced the original door mirrors with the ones from the facelift model, though, the original were more square and painted in the same colour as the body. 🙂
This is what i call a great car,not this plastic cars they now do. I have 1 1.4 16v what a car. I hope it makes someone happy and still lives this beautiful family car. Love your guys work and videos,great weekend for you.
It actually aged better than cars from these days.
We had an Opel Astra F from 1998 to 2021. Such a briliant car, even after 500K+ KM it still was going strong. Unfortunately rust got it :(

Old Isuzu Diesel engines, one of the best diesel engines ever build
These cars with the diesel engine, 1.7 were the best ones. 200,000 miles was very common if the engine was looked after. They were mostly vans with the lower powered engine, but they still went on and on for ever. I had a new 1.9tdi engine van in 2009, it was superb, 130 bhp. I wish I still had it, went like a rocket.

Such a nice wagon! glad to see you guys brought it back to life, as per usual your content is so good!!

This old Isuzu 1.7 DTI will last for many decades with only a drop of diesel and cheap maintenance. Unfortunately the body has significant rust common issues at Vectra A and Omega A from the same generation. I miss my C20NE 😢

I love opel. We still have a Astra F Cabrio and its so awesome to drive these in the summer. Great car. As a main car i use a Astra G caravan. Solid and not expensive to repair.

I like these old Astra Caravans. Great job !
Almost identical to my first car, a Feb 1994 1.7d merit estate in white. Mine had the GM 1.7dr non-turbo engine with about 60HP. This is the more powerful 82HP Isuzu unit. Good cars in the day and better than the equivalent Escort in my opinion. Mine Did not have power steering though. Sometimes the handbrake used to stick badly if it was parked up wet and left for a few days!
