    Thank you so much for this! I am in the exact same position-- I didn't do baby led weaning with my 2 and a half year old because I was scared, but now getting her to try anything new is such a struggle. I'm determined to do so with my 5 month old soon. I cant wait to follow along with Jackon's eating journey! :)

    Hi Kayla! I did baby led weaning with my son starting at 6 months, it was fun and really simple and there is no pressure because its just having fun because most of the nutrition is still from formula and/or breast milk. We waited a while to introduce utensils so when we did he didn't understand it because he was so used to using his hand. It is also good to wait so they can fine tune their pincer grasp. I just started this past weekend with my second baby, my daughter who just turned six months. We gave sweet potatoes that were roasted. She had fun grabbing, but I noticed that she isn't just ready because she still has the tongue thrust reflex, also she isn't sitting up as good as Jackson yet. Maybe in another week it will go away and she will be sitting up better.

    So cute!! I would actually recommend giving your baby new foods every 2-3 days because it’ll give time for the digestive system to catch up with the changes and it gives you time to see if baby has any reactions or allergies to anything you’re feeding them! ☺️

    Honestly the most realistic video I have seen on baby led weaning. All those moms kept showing fotage of how the babies start right eating when the food was placed on the tray. This is not how it goes. I have spent hours sitting with my 1 year old so that he picks something from the tray. They done just start eating right away. It’s a lengthy process. Thank you for the boost. Now i am some what relaxed that my baby will eat by himself too inshallah with time.

    Baby led weaning is a lot easier when you offer what the adults are eating, just cut appropriately of course. We’ve been doing BLW since six months (now eight months old) and he eats EVERYTHING we eat. We just watch his salt intake, no whole nuts, and no honey.

    @philippapay43524 жыл бұрын

    SIDS was an infant health crisis because it was happening way too often. Good ideas were proposed by medical researchers to resolve much of the problem and we rarely hear of it now. If there were national outbreaks of babies choking to death on their food, there would be new procedures in place by now for introducing foods to them. Of course, that was back when we were a nation that believed in the benefits of scientific research and knowledge. But, there is not a huge level of babies or toddlers choking to death on their foods, though it does happen. Sadly, when it does happen it may often be because parents were not careful about the food prep and were not present while the child ate. Good to give such great resources to people to use. And so many people give their kids both purees and baby foods and BLW adult foods. It is essential that wee ones have the shorter handles. It is physics. Their arms are not long enough to get the angle right to get food to their mouths successfully from a bowl using an adult-handled fork and spoon. It will always spray around a lot more with those more adult ones. You are recommending good equipment, utensils. Just remember the time will come when he has more teeth to let him have raw carrots, broccoli with maybe some hummus or yogurt dip and most kids love raw sugar snap peas. You cannot be psycho with him when he's eating, so he won't develop eating issues. Yes, do not worry about the baby gags or tongue thrusts. If it's too much food, it will come out. He is equipped to largely protect himself. And it's the amount that's in his mouth or the new texture for him to feel on his tongue or learning to chew with the new teeth that keep coming in that causes him to do all those mouth and tongue movements. I had to laugh at his outfits. I know some people who feed their babies naked, except for their diaper. LOL. I pointed out this could become an odd habit when they go out on their first dinner date later in life and have to get naked to dine. Jackson's looking at it, feeling it, smelling it and deciding what to do with it. He will soon figure out whatever you give him on his tray goes in his mouth and will fill the hole in his belly. He's doing precisely what BLW is intended to do for him in terms of getting used to all the varieties, tastes, temps, and textures of adult foods. You can sell tickets to this stuff; it is so entertaining to watch. He will drop food off the tray and even his sippy cup of water for awhile because it is a learning about gravity thing. Not that there aren't some children who just don't like the looks of their breakfast or always awaken on the wrong side of the bed and fling their plates of food through the air regularly and are clearly being recalcitrant. They go into Time-Out to learn that they do not handle platters of food that way. But he is a bit young to decide to do that as a protest against mornings or having to eat before playing or whatever. Avocadoes are more slippery than bananas, but tend to just squish through their fingers a bit less readily. He is young. He's doing well. He will get the hang of this shortly. Lordy, then you face Riley's potty training. I do not envy you that when she is so oppositional with you at times in her behaviors. But, she may take to it quickly once she's ready. Jackson is clearly learning what he can reach and how to grab it, so that's good. OK, he started to get some avocado flesh and not just the not-so-tasty skin. He'll figure that out, too. He's in a so much better, safer position in the new highchair, which I think is rather a handsome piece of furniture. I had a friend I could never forgive because she actually fit into her kids' highchairs. LOL. If you give him avocado on toast or jelly on toast, do not be shocked if he eventually turns it upside down with the spread side on his tongue. Lots of babies do that because the taste of the spread will hit their tastebuds first. They learn quickly. Bless him, he may be skeptical about a lot of things, but he's persistent. So far he is not getting the banana up his nose, in his ears, and in his hair and even eyelashes! You can show him how to use the fork and spoon. It will help a bit. Then let him do it. Got such a kick out of him figuring out what the flaxseed was on the avocado. A new taste, texture, and sensation in his mouth. So cute. And I love the quasi-shower curtain you have him wrapped in. Excellent that you just let him go at it. It will educate and entertain new parents who face this.

    I would love to know what times of day you fed him and how it fits in with his milk and if his milk has gone down or up. Just about to start led weaning with my baby and struggling to work out a good schedule / pattern and what to expect in terms of if him drinking milk will go up or down 💕💕

    My baby is almost 7 months old. We have been trying to do BLW too. I'm having too much fun. Coat avocado strips with oatmeal so it's not too slipper to grab xD

    My daughter is only a few days younger than Jackson and we have been doing BLW for a few months now. She barely ate purees, she wanted to feed herself. Are you waiting a few days before introducing new foods? I have really struggled with what foods to give her and when. She really doesn't like much :( Also, did you have to teach Jackson to use the utensils Or did he just do it on his own? I have them in my Amazon cart and am going to try to use them. My baby girl hasn't feed herself purees, I'd like to try that. BTW he's so cute eating all those foods. I love the faces they make!

    Hi my baby is 10 months old and all this while I was feeding her purees but last two days I started weaning so is it necessary to feed purees to side by side as she is not eating well in weaning

    Great video, per usual!! So, we’re also starting the same process and I saw a mom on YT recommend a crinkle cutter you cut the food so the baby can easily grip. 🤓 I also noticed my baby bites an appropriate amount when crinkle cut. 🤔

    My son is now 6 months old and just started BLW, but he just squashes and drops the food on the floor and doesn't carry it into his mouth. Should I just be patient for the first few months? I'm not sure if I should just watch him until he feels like eating or I should do something to help him eat...

    My son will pick up toys and straw cup in his mouth but not food on the tray. Do you know why? I saw you put the food in his hand, should we let them pick up the food by themselves or it's ok to put the food in thier hand?

    I did puree with my 2yr3m old daughter and shes not as picky as your daughter so i dont think blw make them less picky but i do believe that exposure to a variety of food help to make them less picky. I do love to cook and i have learn that my job is to serve a healthy and balance meal and my daughter job is to eat what she likes/wants from what is served. Im not judging but the nutritionist said that if we give them only what they like them we are making them picky but if we give them 1 choice new or that they dont like then we are exposing them to the food and one day they will eat it but it's a process of touching playing chew and split and then eating. What i try to do is that is she doesnt eat one group of food i try to give her of that group in the meal/snack to have a balance during the day but we have to see the big picture of what they eat during the week.

    My daughters dad freaks out when she eats anything & coughs or gags & I told him you can’t freak out or else she’ll freak out, she knows what she’s doing you just have to trust her. The first the she actually bit a big piece of of & chewed & swallowed was pizza 🤦🏻‍♀️ lol I freaked out like you said & then seen she actually chewed it & swallowed it & I gained more trust in her with foods. We’re on week 1

    We are about to start too- re bananas look up how to split them for toddlers- if you break it with your finger in fours it’s not sticky! (Hard to explain but google it!) it’s a game changer!

    Every child get picky around 2yrs old or before no mater if they were purre or blw fed as baby they eat everything because they need more nutrients and calories as they are growing faster than toddlers toddlers want to play more so they want to spend less time in the table our job is to serve healthy/balance meal with one new choice of food or that they dont like and in a long run they we'll start eating a more variety of food again. They stop eating what they used to love as babies. My daughter had a phase of eating only green veggies when she was a baby and she loved broccoli now she doesnt touch it. Puree is supposed to be for 2m then mashed food and then finger food the longer we take to move from pure the less they will want finger food because they like thing simple and less effort they are lazy so they we ask for puree instead of finger food.
