I started mine this morning too. I let it run for a while too. Since I’m in the middle of nowhere and an hour away from the store… I’m happy it started.

I'm in the great white north, although likely not where you're at because we haven't seen more than -5C to -8C, but I'm shocked that the doors opened with no issues at that temp! Crazy! About to buy a Crosstrek Wilderness soon!

Yeah, I would have just pushed it into the garage. But that's what warranty is for!

I’m impressed 👍🏻 but I doubt if my wife’s diesel forester would start at -50 👍🏻🇬🇧

@@ChanceSummer it was the engine of choice in the U.K. and Europe but has now been discontinued, average fuel consumption of 40mpg and 50mpg on a run make it a great car, 6 speed manual transmission too 😃 we will probably keep it as long as we can.

If it has synthetic oil in the engine = yes, no problem. if it has conventional motor oil in the engine = Nope, zero chance.

No block heater will mean that the oil is too thick and while the car may start, it will not be getting the required lubrication until the oil warms. You've probably done some damage to the engine.

I don’t disagree but at 260k she is near the end anyways. 🥲. That and if I didn’t move it, she would be stuck there for a long time as it only got colder! Gas would have probably frozen. 🥶

It's amazing that it started at these temperatures. Well done Subaru! However, I think I could hear the noise of metal rubbing against metal for the first second after startup. The sound makes me cringe! Rebuilding the EJ/FA/FB engines is not easy or cheap. Ask me how I know.

It's a Subaru, the head gaskets will pop and warp the heads anyways 😅

Hello there, could I use a fragment of your video for my coldstarting compilation? Of course I will put a link to your original video in the description, increasing the original’s popularity too. Thanks a lot for you answer in advance :) Crazy what modern efi and oils do in terms of coldstarting. 5 years ago I'd have thought this is 100% fake, nowadays I can believe it. I wonder though if an engine in a modern car (covered with all the plastic covers and generally having packed engine bays compared to the old cars) will cool down from 90*C to -50*C thorougly just overnight though :D

Of course. Clip away. Cheers mate and I agree, when I was a kid in the 80s there was no way a car would start without being plugged if it was below -20. Now, we have synthetic oil, much better batteries with high CCA (cold crank amps) and high torque starters!

Good guess but it also gets hot here and it’s an XT (turbo) so I run Mobil 1, 0w-40 full synthetic. It sells for $38 / jug (4.7L) at Walmart.
