    Thank you for making this video. I have 25 BP's, combination of M-F, hatchlings, sub adults, and adults. Currently breeding 2 of my females, have had a couple solid locks. I breed my own rats, crickets, Dubai roaches, meal worms, super worms, and horn worms. It is a lot of work keeping up with my reptile room, make sure you are prepared to spend the majority of your free time in your reptile room. My wife complains all of the time.

    Great video!! I think it’s definitely geared more towards someone who has made 100% commitment to the business such as yourself ...very good info...but I feel like for someone who wants to do this as a hobby and for the pure enjoyment that they could start it a lot cheaper and smaller scale and quicker than a 3 year wait time on new female hatchlings to grow to size and not investing “4” LARGE upfront on top of the line racks....then if they decide to go the business route then everything u said in this video kicks in....peace!!!

    Awesome video. I'm not hoping to make it big with snakes. I definitely won't be quitting my day job any time soon. But hoping next year to buy a rack system. I have a few snakes right now I'm still growing up. So hoping by the time I have a rack system I can get a few more snakes. Already know what small projects I want to work with. I'm not like most who are working with OD, DG, YB, clown, or any combo of the above. That doesn't interest me. But an axanthic pied has always been my dream snake ever since they first came out. But I can't justify dropping 3K on a lightning pied just to say I have one. But when I saw the most gorgeous VPI axanthic girl at a local show before the pandemic, I knew I had to have her. The plan is to hopefully have her as the start of an axanthic pied project, but honestly, she's just a great snake to have. She's definitely the most docile I've ever had. So we'll see. I'd love to eventually down the road produce an axanthic pied. But we'll see how it goes. I AM however going to definitely be working with bullsnakes. I'd always wanted a ghost morph bullsnake. And after contacting a few different breeders, 2 got back to me in the same night. 1 had a single male left, the other a single female. So the fates decided, and I got the pair. I now have a 2nd female that I'm also growing up. So hopefully in another year or 2 I can brumate my bulls to get them ready the breed the following spring. They're all powerhouses and will produce awesome babies.

    I just watched this vid today, man it is so helpful I will send this video to everyone who wants to start a business on reptiles. I started to keep ball python in 2016, in the beginning I kept a black pastel and BEL I was like black and white snakes are cool, and after that I find how attractive ball python breeding is but I don't really have a plan. I just keep buying some animals that I think its cool like highway, and pied combos... I spend a lot of money buying single males and females that not fit to my males( I didn't think about what products I can make), I tried to buy some adult females that fit my project later but I find this is not a good way, some older female takes a year to adjust a new environment that really sucks...

    I know you're newer to this than I am but let me say that I wish I had seen a video like this before my first few purchases, as well as before I started thinking about breeding. I did however do a ton of research and between DIY I've spent on quality heat tape, thermostats and other equipment. Finding rodents can definitely be a hassle so one thing I mention to people that want to start breeding snakes is to start breeding rodents first haha. I'd love to continue adding to this but I'll leave you here saying that this is a great video and you definitely illustrate the correct way in starting up a ball python breeding business. Great content!

    The Ball Python Project thanks man I really appreciate it I got some heat as you probably saw on some other comments, but my intent is never to tell people what snakes to buy, which Morphs to get and what’s the best way cause I’m still learning, the intent was more of a general common sense knowledge of some things to consider before going into this :) thanks for the support greatly appreciated 😀

  • @theballpythonproject6598

    @theballpythonproject6598

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@JPReptilesCanada I havent seen yet. There shouldnt be any heat as when we all first start out, most of us, when buying a snake are told, "buy what looks good to you" or "buy what you like". I've heard that more than buy females, buy recessive, buy equipment and research first, find rodent supplier, etc. This is solid information. Yes it may hurt someone trying to off a few snakes or bring more people into the hobby which creates competition but it's great advice and one way or another quality will shine through. Keep doing what your doing as it's great advice.

    Look at Dav Kaufman. I just saw a video that he works mainly with pieds now because pieds are what started his passion for ball pythons. Most importantly start a few projects that are gonna enjoy working with. Do it as a hobbiest and think about the cost of everything. You will need money every week. Food isn’t something you cannot skip. I mean ya Ball pythons can go off feeding but that’s another story. Although I may not own a single snake I do own leopard geckos and I’d apply everything in this video to that and other reptiles.

    Sure wish this video was something I could have seen when I got started in this business. Luckily, I was able to catch a JKR video early on where Justin talks about buying females first and having a direction. I immediately changed my strategy in buying at that point. You touched on some great points in this video and I couldn't agree more with what you said. I would ad that people should breed what they like and not necessarily whats "popular". Whats "popular"(as you pointed out) changes so fast, its always good to work with what you love. My first clutches are due to drop any day now and I couldn't be more excited! Also, thank you for touching on getting out and networking. I have been lucky enough to have made a great friend in Bill Perry at BC Pythons who has introduced me to a ton of other breeders who are all great people. Always a good idea to make a good name for yourself so people want to buy something from you. Keep up the fantastic videos!

    Thank you soooo much man it really is awesome to hear that my videos help people. You are 100% correct that you should breed what you like but if your looking to generate income you also need projects that are popular and can fund your growth. Great to hear you have a clutch due soon, I can't want to get my first clutch, its going to be sooooo exciting. Also networking is sooo undervalued by many. The power of social media is sooo important for business so its an area everyone should work at :) Thanks again for checking out the video and dropping a comment.

    I am currently going into my first season, I have 31 balls the genes in working with are the following leopard pied, blade pastel het clowns, a bunch of pastel het pied females , fire highways , specters , pastel spider ivory , GHI , mystics , mojaves , black pewter , desert ghost , orange ghost, invisi ball. As you can see I am hooked! If I can recommend anything I've learned so far is trying to buy used racks at shows and on Craigslist will save a ton, I've saved so much money versus buying new. I paid 50 bucks for my rat rack with 5 tubs, 20 dollars (no joke) for a 9 tub 41 qt rack with tubs I just had to re do the heat tape. I found 3, 10 tub each melamine racks with 33 , 32 quart tubs for free they just needed cleaned up the guy wanted them out of his garage I just had to add heat. But never go cheap on your animals quality is everything And make sure you use a proper thermostat! Videos like this inspired me to do this and I can't wait to produce some crazy combos!!!

    Who recommends breeding rats for snake food, I'll have only two snakes at a time breeding. But buying these expensive frozen rats is ridiculous for just one snake. I also think I could sell my rats for alot better price than stores. 2 dollor a rat instead of 7! Or 3 small rats for 17 bucks... just crazy.

    Romelia Bury they are naturally borrowing animals that spend most of their time in the wild in holes in the ground and feel the most safe and secure in dark cramped spaces so the tubs are actually perfect for the pythons even if u had them in a big tank that was well decorated they would hide all day in a small cramped hide box

    less than one year with snakes and videos like this? are you on this hobby because you like snakes or you like money? One year with snakes and what you know about them to try teach people? my advise if you like snakes is don't spend more time making videos, spend time studdy about them, learn... one year is time for you keep corn snakes and some balls at your room, reading books about them and apreciate how beautiful they are and their comportaments, not to spend 10k in snakes thinking that you will be the next jkr ;)

    Tiago Oliveira I’ve actually owned reptiles since I was very young including snakes, monitors, chameleons and so on. My first job was also in a very large pet store “Reptile department” which I worked at for 7 years before going off to school. I’ve also studied a lot since I was young. Getting into snake breeder is new to me but Reptiles is not new to me. The points covered in this video are simple common sense steps to consider before spending your life savings on Reptiles. You would be surprised how many DMs a day I get asking about those topics and how many horror stories I get. If I can help anyone in anyway that’s more important to me then anything else 😜
