That is a 1987 model, the 1997 model has a different grille and headlamps. My late father had a 1989 one of these and a 1993 Taurus. The 1993 one it's headlamp bezels were smaller. 😊

I can’t believe you not only found an ‘86-‘89 Taurus, but you found one that ISN’T completely rotted through. Most of these cars by the time they hit their 5th birthday, especially in my area of the US, were so rotted they were practically undriveable. Very good find! In any country.

Nice to see an old Taurus still in decent condition. Seems like an import from the US. Registered in Estonia back in 1994. Lots of American cars were imported from US back in early 90's. Customs tariff wasn't a burden and only modification needed for most cars was rear fog light and amber turn signals. Many of the vehicles, specially Dodge and Chevy vans had either EU lights fitted or separate turn signals added which looked bit weird. Most of them were run into the ground and ended is scrapyards.

I bought an '89 Sable Wagon ( identical to this one) with 120,000 miles on it just as a drive to work car/pickup truck. The transmission was slipping and there was an electrical short in the power windows. I changed the transmission fluid and filter and put some JB treatment in it. I installed a toggle switch on the main power wire to the windows and drove it for 5 years and over 200,000 miles on it when I gave it to my friend who then drove it to Alaska! Good old car and sneaky good handling.

They were never officially sold in Europe. But some were imported and back in the 90s i even met a guy who had a Taurus, a baby-blue one. All i remember is that he complained about the prices for spareparts as they had to be ordered especially for him - and there was not much the local Ford dealer could do for him as they had no documents of the Taurus.

There are some running around imported from the US. The analogy with the Sierra/Scorpio isn't a good one because, aside from the logo, everything is different: the Sierra and Scorpio were German-made, rear wheel drive, and had different engines (the Cologne V6s). The Taurus is front wheel drive, had a US V6 (don't remember the name) and they were bigger cars than those two.

I find the Gen 1 SHOs pop up for sale regularly but I'm not looking for one of those. I'm in several Taurus groups, nobody can help me find what I'm looking for. A big seller in Canada, they were everywhere. And just like that they were gone. The only Taurus that has value were the Yamaha powered SHO models. Otherwise not worth saving here. Flexiny's sure has a minty interior, though!
