For quite some time, I carried a laptop, iPad, small Android tablet, cellphone and all of those chargers, cables and an external battery to charge my stuff, if needed. Besides shoulder pain, theft was my biggest fear. I replaced my stuff with an Onyx because after reviewing by actual needs day to day, I settled on a Boox device. Now I carry the Boox, my paper notebooks and a few pens. My back pain/shoulder pain is gone. I still use these devices so they are added as required. I never thought that a Boox would come into my life, but it has. After reviewing my day and what I actually require, the Boox is my favorite and most useful device. Great channel, I am now a fan. That's a great story. I find that if you can use devices that sync content and store files in the cloud.

I absolutely agree with you When I am taking notes via keyboard on a laptop or anywhere, I remember barely nothing, but if I write down on a paper, it gives me a much better experience, flexibility, and most importantly, I can remember much more things

Perfect timing! I just got my Note Air 3C delivered! Edit: regarding the writing on Onenote. I've come to understand that the delay you referred to has to do with a Boox implementation to improve onenote performance on the device. If you tap somewhere on the page with your finger, it should render the writing without having to refresh the screen or go into the settings.

yes, they use a global inking with third party apps and you are right if you touch the screen the screen refresh does help. Great tip.

I have a problem that im not able to connect OneNote with the one we use at work (security policy),so i have cant sync my notes there, but im using the integraded notes app in boox and im super happy even with the BW version. I also have the same sync issue with my work account and onenote. It's really a shame and has limited my use case for onenote with my Boox device. For the purposes of planning, I've switched from the onenote planner to the PDF planner primarily because of the smoother hyperlink experience and I no longer need my planner to be accessible from other devices.

I'm now sold. I have a question. I am a current user or SN A5x and really like the Table of Contents as I tend to only have 1 note file. So being able to quickly get to different day's note is key. Is there such a feature in Boox NA3C? If not, what is the best workaround, without having to open a new note file every single time

I have tried both versions of the planner. I like the implementation of hyperlinks a lot better in the PDF version of the planner, but I use the hyperlinked OneNote version as my daily driver. The flexibility of OneNote just can't be beat. There are some idiosyncrasies to get used to,but I'm quite happy with this device and the onenote planner for my needs.

I am waiting for this to go on sale! Taxes in the Philippines is a bit steep

Remarkable subscription service (i paid $30 for the year) syncs your Remarkable notes & allows easy importing of PDF's with the app. I gave the Remarkable away to a family member as I couldn't stand not having a backlight though & got this Note Air3C.

Definitely a learning curve as there are an overwhelming amount of options, a few software quirks to overcome (i couldn't do their software update until I turned off an auto sleep setting & mine has difficulty with downloading unless I'm close to my router despite it saying that my connection speed is excellent), & the price is alot for what it is. Despite those, I like it so far. I like having the extra sd card option, the play store if needed, color option with kindle books, nice look of the tablet, & backlight.

@@bodendorfer I'm tossing up between Remarkable and the NA3 and this is definitely one of the things making me think - I know as soon as I buy a R2 they'll announce a new model and I'll be pssed haha. That and the paid subscription model are really putting me off it. If I buy a premium device with relatively limited functionality, don't you dare put some funtions behind a paywall. It's really making me think twice.

A firmware update is need in Boox note taking app : 1. The ability to create table of contents like in superonte a5x and a6x 2. link star should be like supernote do you could know it is registered.

Can you use the OneNote quick note function that opens a small note taking window on the side of the acreen like on a windows.desktop? I was hoping that would help me with book note taking while reading to have my notes all saved in OneNote.

Thanks for the great review ! My boox 3 c is shipping one of the main reasons I got it was for creating flashcards. I searched everywhere there is no videos on that. I have goodnotes on my ipad that can create study sets. So now I am getting nervous about this any suggestions ? Thanks

I would jump on either reddit or google and see if you can find an Android App that makes flash cards. Keep in mind that the Boox uses android so you have access to the apps in the google play store.

I am not directly sure about if you can have mutiple sign in on the device. But you could have different accounts in some apps, like OneNote. You could sign in and out of each account. Just note with the change in account sign ins you would have to download your notebooks.

The Boox range is impressive and in a busy office environment they excel, but for organised writing, note taking and reviewing work... Supernote reigns as king.

What is your feeling on the build of the Supernote? I find that it is a nice device for writing, however the build quality is mostly plastic and feels cheap.

Like a snail out of its shell, I think the Supernote is a pretty bland looking device out of its case, but that plastic and rubber-like screen gives it a robustness others don't have, if you don't believe me _[which I believe you do]..._ try droping a Boox device onto a hard floor with a Supernote and see which comes off best... that was one of the first things that drew me towards the Supernote. However, since using the device that robustness _almost_ paled into insignificance once I discovered what the OS offered, its really quite ingenious and for my user case, has transformed my studies, research as well as my reviewing of documents/books/papers. However, if I was in a different environment, I'd go for a Boox device though with some concerns regarding its fragility, and the battery. Today, with some Boox devices coming out of the Box with a full battery charge only just getting the *heavy user* through a full day, I see problems appearing as the recharge cycle count nears say... 500-600 hundred cycles, leaving some users having to get used to carrying a cable about with them which with e-Ink devices, we all thought was a thing of the past. Even with the Supernote, I can burn through a charge in two or three days with hours of writing, and if I had a Boox colour device I could see me being tethered to a wall socked pretty quickly. Because of new EU regulations, Supernote's new range has a user replaceable battery which speaks of a longevity Boox doesn't offer, unless of course, you are prepared to crack the case.

There is a scribble function, and Boox said it's made its software support pen to screen low latency buffer with: OneNote, WPS, and Evernote. I haven't tried Evernote yet. For Boox's note taking app to be as responsive as around 20ms, the Wacom pen input is directly sent to the screen as a buffer while sending the data to the screens at the same time. It's carried out to the 3 other softwares. Edit: Fix comment to say not just OneNote has low latency feature.

It depends how you do this. But if you are using the pdf app, some planners like ours has a table of contents. If you are using onenote, the tab navigation and search are very functional.

Does this device have the "Speech to Text" feature, which converts speech to text, like the Bigme device has?

Yes if you enter type mode, you can choose to use the speech to text feature. IT seems to work pretty good.

I´m still unsure about getting the coloured version or not. I like the idea of the colours in the notes, but I´ve heard, that the screen isn´t as bright as it is on the Note 3 and it needs a lot more battery. On the other hand the 3c has a better resolution when it comes to the screen... Naaaaah, what should I dooooo 🙂

I'm thinking about the NA3 but am definitely passing on the 3C. The battery life is horrendous on the 3C (just like the Tab Ultras) because of the GPU they added. It burns battery like a LCD/OLED tablet now. The Air 3 seems to keep the traditional E-Ink battery life but I wanted to understand how OneNote works. I had the Note Pro years ago and 3rd party writing apps didn't work at all. It was hard to understand in this video because of the minimal writing done and some editing I noticed. Will continue to look around for OneNote content

Question. Is there a link that explains how to use your planner with OneNote. Also, do the written notes come across on all platforms?

Thanks for the review. I have 3 questions. 1- Don't you think Onenote handwriting looks different? Why do their thickness change and not look like normal handwriting? (e.g. as in its own application) 2- Are there any other applications you recommend for reading PDFs and taking notes? Unfortunately, the pen writes with a delay in the applications I downloaded from the Android market. I need an application with a fast response time. 3- The eraser part of the pencil looks like it will scratch the glass. Do you think it is reliable? The onenote writing looks different for several reasons. The first is that it is using different "brushes" than the default apps. This would be true with any other writing app you install on the device. The second is that the writing input works a little differently for Onenote (and I think Evernote) versus other writing/drawing apps on the playstore. The writing input is captured by the boox device as native input and then sent into the app in bulk. That is the reason that the thickness and color change between when you write something in onenote after a while. This allows for the smooth writing input that you get in the app as opposed to the delay you see in other apps from the playstore.

I'm looking forward to what the A5X2 might bring. Rumoured to be coming by the end of the 1st quarter 2024. As an artist, the drawing app Atelier is the best I've seen in e-ink devices so far with the precise eraser which is essential in art and makes the Supernote the most valuable to me. The Boox OS looks like a bad user experience outside their proprietary software with 99% of apps from the Play store that won't work as intended.

For people that want the keyboard type note app which app do you recommend for this device?

Yes you should be able to download one note from the app store and then sign in and sync your onedrive notebooks across devices.

My biggest and most frequent question when I look at this device is what am I getting that I can’t get with a galaxy or other android based tablet?

I've had mine for about a month and gotta say the case is the worst part. It's heavy, it reduces the finger print reader performance, and the pen is constantly knocked off by the edge of the case. Not to mention you can't charge the device with the case closed.

I haven't found the cover to interfere with the fingerprint reader in practice. I think the rest of your critiques are fair, but I have found the benefits of this device in my own workflow exceed the annoyances presented by those issues.

@@robinherrick2177 I curl it back behind the cover. It hasn't bothered my writing as I find it only causes the device to rock if I'm writing on the lower right side of the screen. That being said, I'm typically not writing for long period of time on a flat surface where it may present more of an annoyance. My use case is such that I'm jotting quick notes down and often holding the device in my other arm.

I have both devices, I like the air for note taking as it is slightly lighter. However the Ultra has a little more function and power for productivity apps.

I don't have a full spec review. What is the issue you are experiencing with the device?

The only real gripe I have that keeps me from buying it is the relatively bad battery runtime. It has a 3700mAh battery, while the small 7" Tab Mini C has a 5000mAh battery. That tells me that I'll have to recharge a lot more often, considering the larger screen... all I would like is a new version of this with a more powerful battery.

I have had a note air for the last month I charge it once every week and a half. I use it for work (heavy note taking) and read a couple hours a day. I have WiFi and Bluetooth off 98% of the time. I have also had the kobo elipsa 2e and the kindle scribe but I returned them. This is my favorite of the three devices hands down.

@@franksinatra8211 Which Note Air, though? The 3C? There's a big difference depending on which specific model (due to presence or absence of "Boox Super Refresh"). The reviewer, My Deep Guide, was getting 7 to 14 hours for the Air 3C depending on how much front light was being used.

You might consider the B&W Boox Note Air 3 (without the C). It is much cheaper and has the same functionality and build as the Note Air 3C. I have received mine just a few days ago, still having to get used to it. Battery running now for several days and still about 70%.

I used it with a template and not with a pdf. I saw also in the video that there is a lag, writing is much better with the native app. You may want to try to write with normal speed and see how it works…

A common problem with giving the user a full-blown android OS and the play store. Only a few apps will work as intended with e-ink, This is so much more evident with drawing apps. It can quite quickly make for a bad tablet experience if you are not aware that 99% of apps will be a poor user experience. There's only a few e-ink dedicated non-proprietary apps, so one has to wonder if Boox are really doing things right regarding a streamlined and pleasant UX. You then begin to realise why tailored products like the supernote and remarkable exist. Each to their own though... Boox - great for tinkering, IMO.

That is always the question that I ask myself when reviewing e-ink. For most people it is the writing feel vs writing on glass, reduction in connected services, notifications, and the long battery life. Most people that I know that have e-ink, use it primary for writing and still use an iPad or tablet for computer like mobile productivity.

I think it's a different experience because e-ink uses front lights, not backlights. There is zero backlighting with the 3C even though that word is used a LOT in various reviews. It is only front-lit, so the light is directed away from you and towards the screen. With backlights, the light is directed at you. However, I agree that the price is quite high, so real writing feel and no backlighting have to be really important to justify.

i have ever own a tablet, and I can't really use it, because i always got pretty bad headache and eye strain every time i use it, even by a single hour of usage, so my bad I gotta sold it. but since my work and study require me to do a long session of reading and writing so this e ink device is the best solution for me. friendlier to my sensitive eyes.

SUPERNOTE all the way besids it not being backlit. Also battery life is really bad but great job!

Good review Brandon. One major hole in it: I need to see a review that runs through a Zettelkasten workflow properly: 1.) Start with the process of reading documents (science/medical articles, textbooks, etc. in PDF AND ePUB formats). Boox works GREAT for this. 2.) Demonstrate taking notes on the document - in both formats (pdf & epub). I need to see that notes are linked to text on screen. Ideally, I want to be able to highlight a section of text, have that + my annotations appear in the note. 3.) Then I want to be able to export ALL the notes in the document/book (or section of a book) to use in other software. Those notes need to come with associated highlighted text, and they need to reference where in the document/book they occurred (so I can footnote that in my own papers). 4.) I need to be able to import those annotated notes into Zettelkasten software that lets me build a PKMS - something like Notion/Obsidian on Android, or Lattics, EccoPro or InfoQube on PC. That last step is crucial because NO eInk eReader/Note-taker supports Zettelkasten workflow & functionality in its own proprietary software! No reviewer is doing all this. That's a problem because we can't test these things for that functionality without purchasing them, as you've discovered & pointed out. We rely on you as reviewer to do that. I'm finding no end of complaints from other end users on Reddit who have purchased an eInk device & discovered they just don't support functional use beyond reading. SO PLEASE: show us that workflow.

I also thought the speeding up and editing that is done in the writing section was a bit disingenuous. People watch the review to understand how it works in real time so if you speed up the video to make the writing quicker or have cuts in when you refresh while you make think you're making a cleaner video you are actually hurting the viewers ability to understand the performance of the device. Many channels are "paid" reviewers so if you are not then keeping in some of those device pauses makes more a much more fair and balanced presentation for your viewers and you'll find many more people returning to you.

You highlight the strengths of the 3C well but I find the comparison with the supernote unfair. Totally different philosophies, supernote is all about the software and note taking and is exceptional at that. 3C is all about hardware and polyvalence but not as good for note taking as lacks all the options Supernote has to store and go through previous notes such as tags, categories and stars. 3C is better for people who don’t take a lot of notes at work and want an all in one e-ink machine. I take way too many notes at work to favour the 3C over the Supernote, I’d get lost in my notes in 2 weeks time.

Hey man, different devices for different people in workflow. I will say I like the feel of the supernote, I just feel the build quality is low and it doesn't have the ability to integrate with other apps. If you are someone looking for a device that has the ability to note take, listen to audio books, and connect with the kindle app, then the 3C is probably best for you.

They just released go 10.3, not colored but seems good
