Stop being a selfless martyr in this narcissistic world. Save your energy for yourself and in turn will have enough for others who actually need it. Not the takers and antagonizers.

That is what she is saying. We first must take care of ourself and then with the left over energy and time, we can help others. If we expend all our energy helping others - then we parish.

I took care of my handicap sister for my mom during school hours at age 11 catheterizing her 2 times a day during school and once after school at home until she got home from work till I graduated highschool. I was lost not taking care of others. I failed anatomy in nursing so didn't get that distraction from self. Then moved in with man and took care of him 19-23 and another I married 24-31 and had a baby and divorced when she was age 1 whom I poured my care into after. Then, empty nest 5 years ago and I could have a nervous breakdown being left all alone. I never learned how to take care of myself.

Taking care of yourself does society good. Truth Take care of yourself before others. I get up at 5am everyday to workout to make sure I take care of myself. That's my time for me. That's how important I am to me. Avoiding donuts at every turn is also a sacrifice for oneself.

On a boarder scale I have seen people using term selfish in a negative manner is to become a mean person, they make people suffer around them, they only come forth to help when they are profiting from it or getting something back in return.

Is taking medication the only/best way to care for self? Taking medication without exercising, eating and sleeping well, prayer, meditation, work, social contacts is called addiction to medication.

Wait a minute..there must be healthy balance. Selfcare and selfish are two different approaches. Take care of self so you can help others (and lead by personal example ) is not being selfish, JP😉
