Start a Fire in the RAIN: How To

Knife and metal match fire starting, how to start a survival fire with minimal tools. Rain and windy conditions make it tough to start a fire without a shelter, I say in the video a couple times to put a shelter overhead or prepare materials inside your current shelter then ignite where necessary.

Great video showing the preparation, work and patience that is needed to start a fire in bad conditions. One really should do it once in a while to make sure not to loose the nerves in a survival situation. I liked to see how much kindling you had at hand in time, knowing how frustrating it is to prepare everything, just to see the flames die because there was a little few kindling prepared:-) Keep surviving.

This video sets me on the right way for starting fire in good weatherconditions with the metal lucifer. "Kiss the wood" is great advice. I believe in "daily practice". I will in the next days, weeks or months be outside to start a fire, or to make featherstcks or to use my small axe to make pencil small wood. And of course I will try later on in bad weather to start fire with the metal lucifer. Thanks.

What exactly is this metal match? I understand it's a ferro rod but what one? Where can I get one?

  • @SurvivalSchoolHouse

It's the exact same as a ferro rod so wherever they sell them is what you want, I usally get mine from Amazon, it's just what we call them.

I know right, I put it in the description but check out my knife only bow drill video on the beach, I used a piece of bull kelp as cordage and was a lot of fun. Thank you for the comment!
