Gotta love the good ol early 2000s. Times were much easier back then. No shootings. No iPads. No iPhones. No twirking and no COVID. Mickey Thomas was definitely the king of vocalists and still is today. I love this acoustic version of Winds Of Change. For some reason, it’s almost ASMR like in a way. I’m not trying to be rude or sexist, but it’s just my opinion. Lots of Mickey Thomas’s songs seem timeless. Not to mention his voice as well. 😃

If one lives in a free country, One should not be afraid to express themselves without worries or retaliation from others... With that being said. Yes, Mickey is incredible as is Starship/Airplane 💯👍

The original is so incredibly iconic... It's like someone "re-imagining" the Mona Lisa or Mount Rushmore... If this song had never been heard before now, and only in this new form..., then I probably would have dug it more..., but that original..., Craig's soaring leads..., Grace's epic co-lead vocals..., that rich and thick intricate arrangement..., recorded in a world class oldschool all analog studio... This is cool, and I respect it..., but the original is simply THE definitively perfect version...., at least to me...

Re-recorded soundalike versions are often done for reasons of performance royalties. They often end up on cheap compilation albums ("all original artists"). In this case, though, the interpretation of the song is much different from the original - and really good.

@@JonHawaii2003 I suspect he may have wanted a version in which Grace's replacement did not sing the first verse. It may also have bothered him that it sounds a bit too much like April Wine's "Sign of the Gipsy Queen" in the original arrangement. kzread.info/dash/bejne/amecxdCqZLO4psY.html

The original studio recording is much more powerful. Grace Slick is the primary engine along with a faster tempo and louder lead guitar.

It's a cool rendition, and definitely one that I was glad to hear in a way (and indeed, his voice is still good!) but, as other commenters have said before me, it lacks the drive and energy of the original recording. And, most importantly, it lacks Grace Slick's voice and vitality. It would've been great to hear her on this rendition were she still performing; she would undoubtedly have filled in that missing something and added a lot of power to what is, in its essence, an otherwise fairly listenable arrangement.
