Official Lyrics (Sourced from kzread.info/dash/bejne/dXill7aIYJi0k7Q.html): loving hating hoping faking i’ve been digging through the dirt that was left behind i've been dredging through the mud for it there's nothing that’s alive or dead inside in you or in this the crucifix in my hand's a lie cause nothing ever kills you i watered down the pain till the well went dry so pray for rain and it gnawed rose to the top again back like a long-lost friend a wretch that i can't defend oh, my god is this where the dreamer ends? dark where the light had been lost at the war within and it clawed back in the world again here for new revenge an enemy i can't condemn oh, my god is this where the liar ends? dark where the light had been lost at the war within out of myself i feel it crawling how can i tell if this is the ending out of myself it began evolving i am not well, repent i'm guilty how can i tell if the sky is falling how can i fix what there is no mending how can i tell if i am not well i've lost myself i have come undone and all of the horses and all of the men won't put it back in place or bury it where it had been when all of the forces have been overrun you'll whisper, serpent tongue what you fear you have become something wicked this way comes something wicked this way comes

the sign is the sign of divisions but flipped upside down and resembles a pentagram to me, which is very interesting

I find it fascinating in part, too. Makes sense for some artistic liberty according to the lore.

I love the ending just a deathly, eerie whispering into silence

I thought Diving Bell ended in a creepy way... and the outro IS creepy. But the whispering into silence is chilling.

I’ve seen someone theorize that the BMI in the starset universe is the mark of the beast. It’s an interesting thought considering the language used in this song, and the symbolism of a pentagram .

Wow. Hadn’t considered that, but that is definitely a plausible theory. To be honest, I see that even more deliberately in alchemy the more I think about it. I wonder if that was a potential intention of the band to illustrate that allegory.

The ending song is my favorite! In my opinion, ends in a darker way, like kinda sad, without a hope, but amazing. In general, the lyrics in the horizons album are more poetic than other albums, and i think that Dustin put some feelings in there... Some songs hurt a lot, so i think what they do to Dustin 🤔

pretty sure there was a humpty dumpty reference at the end also ,"something wicked this way comes" is a Shakespeare reference

Off topic, but "once more into the breach" is also a Shakespeare reference.

I feel like this song is a metaphor for depression and not having control over your emotions.

I could definitely see that perspective. Makes sense; even amid the lore, so may of the pieces have broad application.

the emblem is a pentagram i think the division logo subverted into something evil, as the songs name implies an omen

I thought at first the "omg" part was them using the Lords name in vain as you did. However, upon reading the lyrics it seems as though it is him addressing God in prayer as he asks a question after each time he says it. Seems too closely linked to religion lyrically to assume the song is in reference to something else in my opinion. This is one of my favorite songs from StarSet. I could go into more detail of what I think all the lyrics mean. But generally I think It has much to do with time line of before and after the creation of the Earth. Brief thoughts about what I think some of the Lyrics were intended to mean: "The crucifix in my hand's a lie 'Cause nothing ever kills you" - Obviously talking about Jesus Christ / His nature. "Oh my god Is this where the dreamer ends" - "the dreamer" I think references himself or human kind. "And it clawed Back in the world again Hеre for a new revеnge An enemy I can't condemn" - Either directly referring to Satan or a reemerging addiction/sin. "Oh my god Is this where the liar ends?" - "the liar" = Satan. "Dark where the light had been Lost at the war within" - 1st phrase = initial light at birth being corrupted, 2nd phrase = lost fighting the internal war with sin. "And all of the horses And all of the men Won't put it back in place" - In reference to the story of humpty dumpty. Could be referring to the "great fall" of Satan or the fall of Adam and Eve and its consequences we embrace. Or another lesson from the story. "You'll whisper, serpent tongue What you fear you have become" - becoming devilish in nature or the natural man. "I am not well, repent I'm guilty" - Spiritually unwell requiring repentance for healing. "Something wicked this way comes" - could be a Shakespeare reference of decent into a state of pure evil, or a reference to the 1962 novel by Ray Bradbury as an allegory of the struggle between good and evil.

I agree, too. It makes sense in a reaching out to God in context to the song/lore. And those are a lot of deep insights that I could definitely see being true to the piece. It, like most of their work, is truly expansive and contemplative.

Hopefully I can get to it today; trying. I know y’all have been waiting, and I truly appreciate your patience. My plan is to listen to this one again right before I wank into Brave New World. Thanks for the tip; looking forward to the “expansion.”

Also, and I'm not sure anyone agrees with me, but I feel like the religious tones are purposeful - not as a reference to the religious practices themselves, but to the way some hold onto that faith as something of a lifeline. The narrator of this song is an amazingly troubled individual sinking ever deeper into this self-loathing, toxic pit of sabotage, and they constantly hold themselves to these religious icons and terms in something of a cry of help. It also helps to build the intended tone; something dramatic, dark, with the "epicness" of a story told in legends, like the "and all of the horses and all of the men" and stuff. It's as if this song visualizes it's internal conflict through the metaphor of a crusade or something with a similar theme.

I also think I thought way to far into this because the way that I intemperate this whole album from the lyrics is that the new west has just gotten taken over by a revolution from within but the revolution ends with something more wicked taking over. I think that the new west caused a revolution with help from this winked thing but the new west only cared about getting out of the hold of the new east. they knew that they are doing something wrong with partnering with this group and knew this would cause something even worse to happen. but it is hard to explain some of the connections I made and also it may be a bit far fetched.

Oh I know. I used to do that all the time. I don't anymore, if I can help it. Problem at the time (and the reason it's such a disruptive noise) was that I was using a defunct, tabletop mic. I've since gotten new equipment; it's much better now.

I can't say I've heard that comparison before. Perhaps you are right; I'll have to look at his voice and consider. I'm admittedly not the most familiar with him.
