I think even Matthew did a double-take when the numbers came up!

Best winner ever on the show. My wife and I went to see him live in his tribute show in Auckland, New Zealand. I had managed to get the front two seats right in the centre of the front inner circle row under the stage....so close I could rest my feet on the stage. Gary put on a great performance, and he even grabbed the phone off the woman next to us and took a few photos of us. We even had a chance to talk to Gary before the show in the lounge bar - most people didn't even recognise him as he hadn't changed at that time. After about a ten-minute chat he said goodbye so he could go and get into costume. I am so pleased he has managed to do so well and make a career out of this. We got plenty of attention from Gary during the show.

Gary Mullen so deserved this. By far the most memorable SITA winner, ever. Brilliant in every way.

Champion of champions was the Chris de Burgh, when the real Chris came out and duetted with him.

I think he is the best they ever have had on there, Some close ones in the past, great to hear he is still rocking on 24 years later.

I went to see Gary Mullen last year in Bradford doing his queen act he really good even to this day hope he keeps the great show he’s been doing

Seen Gary Mullen twice now both times he’s been great first time Bradford second time Skegness he definitely deserves to win star in there eyes without a doubt

Amazing stuff….like Freddie came down and gave him his voice….amazing!

I saw him in a tribute show. I had my hand in a cast and couldn't clap to radio gaga. He pointed me out in the audience asking why I wasn't clapping. I raised my right wrist. He smiled and told the rest of the audience I was allowed to not clap. Lol

Wow now 2024, this is the first time I've watched this since I watched it live in 2000 on tv, and feeling the same support and goosebumps for the Freddie tribute now as much as I did then. To this day the variety of most of these acts are still fantastic. Thanks for sharing.

I’m so happy he won. He was extremely talented with so much loving spirit.

By far Gary Mullen is the best finalist and contestant that Stars in their eyes has ever had and truthfully no one has ever deserved to win it more than Gary

Now that was PROPER Saturday night telly!! Good, clean fun, loads of entertainment and a fantastic host. And Gary was absolutely sensational!

I love the way it takes Gary a few seconds to register how many votes he'd gotten and all he cam manage is a silent "what?"

Amazen tribute singer to Freddie Mercury

Do you have any idea how difficult, albeit impossible it is to replicate Freddie’s voice? Hats. Off.

The camera shots and music as Mullen walks to the stage just screams epic television. Joyous stuff. Talent shows pre-Cowell were so much better. As for Mullen himself - as near to flawless as you can get. You can see his life changing at 7.01.

I remember my mother singing with him in the living room she passed away 3 years ago my birthday is 20/may rip my wonderful ma 🌹

Gary Mullen has to be the best Stars In Their Eyes winner ever. I remember watching the live grand final it 22 years ago. Like it was yesterday. The best live grand final ever.
