It's nothing to do with the "disrespect of working people". My Dad was a building labourer. He never felt embarrassed about that and I never felt anyone looked down on him for that. However, he hardly ever referred to it unless directly asked and I hardly ever mentioned it. Why would you? Most people don't understand what a "tool" is in manufacturing. It's not a screwdriver. When it comes to the chassis/body of a car, for example, It's the most important, complex and expensive part of the manufacturing process. A tool used to stamp a single part of a car's chassis/body from steel/aluminium blanks can cost half a million dollars and many months to design and manufacture. It can't be replaced quickly and it can't be reused for different parts.
