    It's nothing to do with the "disrespect of working people". My Dad was a building labourer. He never felt embarrassed about that and I never felt anyone looked down on him for that. However, he hardly ever referred to it unless directly asked and I hardly ever mentioned it. Why would you? People aren't laughing at Starmer's Father for being a 'toolmaker', they are laughing Starmer for being a 'tool'.

    My Dad also worked in factories all his life. He was a Labour voter all his life but would not support Labour under Starmer because they are not Labour at all. Starmer has no insight whatsoever.

    Toolmakers have far more skill and integrity than any politicians I know of . What’s sickening to me is that he says it as if a skilled craftsman is just about at the bottom of the social order and look how clever and superior he is compared to his father. Disregarding ,of course,that being a barrister,he identifies with surely the most morally bankrupt profession,ie the Law . What this man is rhymes with the word hunt.

    Starmer’s father, in reality, operated the Oxted Tool Co. His own independent toolmaking enterprise until the 1990s.

    Most people don't understand what a "tool" is in manufacturing. It's not a screwdriver. When it comes to the chassis/body of a car, for example, It's the most important, complex and expensive part of the manufacturing process. A tool used to stamp a single part of a car's chassis/body from steel/aluminium blanks can cost half a million dollars and many months to design and manufacture. It can't be replaced quickly and it can't be reused for different parts.
