Great video, thanks for posting. Got ours today. We live in the forest and when I tried the clear sky test with the phone (took forever) it said I'd have issues. Tried two pole locations, Viasat & Dish network, (gone) so will try my flat front porch roof. Then I'll order the appropriate mount.

Moved to the country and thinking of getting Starlink. Your video was really helpful and entertaining. Thanks for showing the whole process. Sorry about the table.

Glad it's working well for you. I've done Directv installs and old school tv antenna installs, but not Starlink. I'm impressed with the automatic positioning - much easier than Directv or Dish. I'm still surprised they make a mount that requires you to drill a hole in your roof! I'm the same age as you and i figure you probably installed TV antennas back in the day. I would have run the cable along the ridge and brought it in on the side wall rather than putting a big hole in my roof. I couldn't figure out why they had you cutting shingles and putting it under the shingles like flashing until i saw you drill the hole. Then I understood. I'm also amazed that the power light (or any light) isn't where you can see it. And there's no ethernet connection to hook it into your existing network switch. Looks like you have a nice network setup there. But i guess you would need a WiFi receiver to connect the Starlink router to your existing network. I had a Linksys gaming adapter years ago that would connect to a WiFi router and give you an ethernet connection that could connect to a PC or wired router.

Know that, the two 3" lag bolts that came with the pivot mount are designed for an RV installation, directly drilled into the roof. They are useless for attaching to the flash mount top cover (not the flat base) for a house roof. All of the provided hardware in both pivot and flash mount kits, in my opinion, were insufficient for a secure roof installation, so I used my own screws, washers and bolts for my shingle roof install. Especially relevant living in Florida with excessive rain, tropical storms and hurricanes. I fortified all pre-holes, drilled them out and upgraded with longer / wider screws, bolts and washers. Used Wensilon, Hex Washer Head 410 stainless steel, regular and Self Drilling Screws. For added sealant and first layer, UV & Weatherproof 2" Sealant Roofing Tape. Second layer, Permatex Black Silicone Adhesive applied to all screws with Thread Sealant Paste, plus Medium Strength Thread Locker 243. Then, pre-blocked all holes with 2" rubber tape. Third water sealant layer, I brushed on a few coats of Thompson's water seal on / around the edges of the flash mount base and screw heads. Am also definitely following Gerald's lead and using the Black Flex Split Wire Conduit, as I'm running surface cable.

The connector on the antenna end of the cable can be flattened back against the cable, allowing it to pass through a smaller hole. That requires you to route it from inside to outside.

I believe you should remove the black conduit. The Starlink cable is UV rated and that black thingy will just provide a direct tunnel for bugs to get it.

Thanks so much for the video. I just got my Star Link unit here in the Philippines. I can't put it on my roof (metal roofs here) but I have a work around. You answered a question for me - the satellite dish swivels as well as moving up and down. Also, I'm glad the one and a quarter inch drill bit worked. I just bought a one and three eighths inch bit. Again, thank you for the very informative video.

I was told to water proof tape the connector on the antenna where it plugs in. I read about of folks antenna died from water shorting out the power.

I just noticed on another video they have a ridgeline installation with heavy weights on it centered on top of the roof. I might have to do something like that.

Thanks for the video, I think you did a fine job. If I may be so nosy, what part of the country (next biggest city/state) if you don't mind. We have a cabin in Blue Creek, OH and I think Starlink just became available. Frontier, Earthlink (DSL)& SOCS (fiber) wanted $1000+ to run new phone lines or fiber since we're so far (0.8 miles) off the road. We have Viasat now and it's slow and unreliable.

I think I would rather place the satellite near the edge of the roof and run the cable through the gable end instead of cutting a hole in my roof.

Thanks for watching. I made a plywood table top and coated it with that epoxy garage floor covering both sides.

I would never mess with the top of the roof. Better to use a pole on the side wall or have the dish at the top of the antenna mast you have (if there are free slot on the top).

So far so good, no issues.

And why didn't you mount it to the end of the roof a few feet away? No need put a hole in your roof. I put mine on the eave of an out building next to my home. I just repurposed an old Dish Network wall mount with a 1 1/4 PVC coupling as a bushing. 3 times fast then HughesNet.

It seems the only reason to center over the joints, is if you were JUST using the mount without the larger piece. In that case you would need to use lag bolts into the joints to secure it. … Anyways, great video and sorry about your glass table top, that was a bummer.

I installed the flashing so the middle hole was pointing down slope so I didn't have to lift the shingles up. I don't think this flashing kit has very good instructions

I just would have slide it underneath the first top shingles no cutting screwed it in at the top tar caulked the rest of the plate drilled my hole for the cable and called it a day

RIP to that glass table top.

I just received mine today, the flashing mount is now $93 and the pivot is $68. It also only ships with a 50 ft cable. I already have a gable pole mount I will us for the install so I won't be purchasing any extra mounting components.

If bugs did get in, they would be prevented from entering the garage through the roof hole I cut. That hole was caulked quite extensively with silicone before I closed up that mounting bracket.

I just got mine and used the flexi cord on mine to run the cord across the roof. I didn't want the starlink cable rubbing against the shingles and I don't want the permanent roof mount yet as I'm likely moving within the year. I went with the non-penetrating roof mount for now which means the cable is laying on the roof and completely exposed to the elements. Just some food for thought!

It appears that you put to router in garage. has that caused any issues with the service.? I ask because other videos state to centrally locate it in the house.

There is no router in the garage. I placed the 75’ cable from the dish to the router that is centrally located in the house. I went through the garage attic and into the basement of the house.

Why didn’t you mount it on the tower?

Question: where is your router from the satellite dish? And curious to know if having a metal roof can affect the signal to the router...my guess is yes 🤔

The Router is in the floor joists above the basement in the ceiling. You can see it in the video at timeline 35:23. Yes I believe you are correct. A metal roof would obstruct a router signal if the router was located in the metal building. I do not have a metal roof on this building.

We just bought a mountain property in rural California. We have DSL. I have purchased the Starlink system. My Questions are: Will DSL and Starlink cancel one another thus giving us slow speeds? We work from home so the internet is VIP for us. Are there special "Settings" I have to set for both DSL and Starlink to work together and give us faster speeds? I got both services because I didn't know what to expect and needed a Plan B. Our realtor said she had both services and her kids don't experience any slow speeds as they Game Online. I never thought to ask about the settings. *Do I just set up Starlink accordingly? *Is it plug and play or do I need to adjust Settings? *If so what might that be? *Is there a video someone can point me to? I would like to set up Starlink asap as they are charging us now and it's still in the box :( Can some of you gurus chime in and point this man in the right direction. I’m not an expert on Starlink or DSL. My first thought is Starlink is more than fast enough for 2 people working from home. Bout of course I don’t know how much bandwidth you’re using. Seeing that you already purchased the Starlink system, I suggest you set it up and try it out.

Why didn't you mount it on the antenna pole?

I have one, I live in MI and had no problems with mine, it actually has a heat setting, it melts the snow off of it. :)

Maybe I'm missing something but why not mount it to the tower?

Yes, $120 per month. About $30 more than the radio signal Wi-Fi system I had that was so so slow.

Hi There, thanks for your comment. Others have said the same. I bypassed the issue and haven't said what I did to correct the problem. It all worked out though. Let me tell you what I did after that. I purchased a 5/16-inch thick 4x8 foot sheet of nice wood and cut out a circle to match the tabletop. I then used garage floor epoxy and coated both sides of the wood circle in the same color as the umbrella I had over the table. All is well, it is back in use. WG7644 thanks.

When a person gets tired of using Starlink internet, they can send the equipment back for a refund. But, you'll only get refunded $250..... 🤬

No worries! I purchased a nice 4'x8' x1/2" piece of plywood, cut it into a circle, and then coated both sides with epoxy garage floor coating. Except for the sprinkles I put on after the epoxy, it looks pretty good. Thanks for the comment.
