Yeahhhhh, I know it's pretty long and rambly. Lots of people won't want to bother with a video this long when they just want to hear if I liked the game or not. Arlo How would you feel about a Diddy Kong Racing sequel that added characters from My Hero Academia, Little Witch Academia, Kirby, The Amazing World of Gumball, **Persona 3-5,** Family Guy, Sonic, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Digimon Tamers, The Simpsons, Invader Zim, Pokemon Sun and Moon anime including Serena from X and Y, Crash Bandicoot and RWBY with Haruko from FLCL, Hat Kid, Popuko and Pipmi from Pop Team Epic, Bomberman, Doom Slayer, Beavis and Butthead also being there? Kirby gets pushed as a second Protagonist to go along with Diddy Kong. Imagine racing against Akko with Izuku, shooting a missile at Gumball, Gumball, Izuku, and Akko smoking pot with their friends, throwing an oil slick at Ren, Ryuji using a bat to knock opponents sideways, Ann using her whip to whip a nearby rival, Yusuke asking Momo if she’d be painted nude, Fregley putting his foot in his mouth to distract the other drivers so they can crash, Futaba showing everyone rule 34, Makoto dodging bombs that Bomberman planted on the race track, etc.

This game needs more attention. It's genuinely a great open world game and Ubisoft is killing it in the cradle by releasing it alongside Odyssey with little marketing. Get the word out about the Switch version folks, it's the real deal.

Definitely recall here when this game came out that I found myself having to run around telling people that Starlink: Battle for Atlas features *2-Player* *Split* *Screen* *Co-op.* Because for some unknown reason, most reviews (like this one) and advertising sources where failing to make mention of that. And I felt that was hurting the game. As a result, I caught quite a few people by surprise.

Ok, I might have to pick this up digitally because this looks sick

Apparently the sales for this game leaned ridiculously heavy in the Switch direction and I think both Nintendo and Ubisoft will notice. As long as Nintendo holds them to a high enough standard I'd love for this team to make the next Starfox

I absolutely adore the Arlo sketches. I always find them to be the best part of the video as they are entertaining and always full of that Arlo charm! Someday I'd love to see cutaway sketches part way through the videos. They always add more of an entertainment factor!

I actually really liked this format for reviews, it seems way more personable and it comes off a bit more authentic than the typical review format. Honestly would not be upset if this was how you handled less high profile reviews going forward. Like if you saved the big deep dives for the 4-5 big releases a year and filled the rest of the calander with something more like a "reviewers dialogue about a game" I think it would really set your voice apart

With a liiiitle bit more structure, it might be a good "rapid-fire" review format. No need for a script. Just say "now gameplay/story/graphics/general_feelings", put a small title card and ramble away.

I play this game exclusively as Star Fox to make it as much a Star Fox game as I can. I only switched out the pilot because some upgrades in the game require leveling up specific pilots. It's crazy how a little bit of tweaking would make this a great Star Fox game; Make Grax a Star Fox villain. Star Wolf is hired as a merc team to help him with his plans for galactic domination via his Legion. Starlink is Slippy's newest innovation to the Arwing ships and the Equinox is part of a group of Star Explorers who just so happen to be in the crossfire. Add a few on-rails segments for major story missions and the Hunt for Wolf as a story mission after the main story with Grax is all finished up, and you have a complete Star Fox game.

Great job :)!! I wish you would make more videos :)! It’s just so much fun to watch them :)!!!

I actually enjoyed the format of this video just as much as your other more scripted videos. With this kind of format I feel like we get better dialogue on your deeper thoughts about the game whereas in your other videos we get more straight to the point surface thoughts if that makes sense. I don't mind this video being long at all because I got a really good sense of how you feel about this game. I wasn't planning on purchasing this game because how it was advertised didn't seem like something I'd be all that interested in. But after watching this video and hearing you go in depth about what the game is really like I plan on picking it up next month sometime. @@sambauman69 I thought it was ok. I'd give it a 6/10. It's just super super repetitive and once the story is over, there's really little motivation or reason to keep playing. Which is pretty bad for an open world game that costs a small fortune to play (outside of America :p). Game is really quite easy, too easy for adults to the extent best to turn it up to hard mode. But a bit too complicated for little kids. So I'm not sure what the target audience is really. Most of the game is just fetch quests or fighting the same enemies over and over. Not for meeeee

@@TheLonelyGoomba I thought the problem was that it's STILL an Ubisoft open world, wide open and full of busywork, but little in the way of meaningful content. I had it beat in 27hrs., and I'm not sure that investing in the other toys-to-life will improve the experience.

This game looks really cool. But i refuse paying 80-85€ for the digital STANDARD version by itself... Very nice video.

i'm sorry to say, but in brazil starlink is almost impossible to buy, not only you have to import the godamn toys, each one costs around... 200 reais at the LOWEST! without counting the switch that costs 1200 reais, and the game itself costing 300 reais... in the end this review just makes me want to buy a switch even more. Although, speaking of the review, it is amazing!! It may not be at the same quality of the scripted and long time taken reviews, but still is cool and entertaining to watch! If you want, i think you could pop up a casual video to keep the channel relevant and alive(youtube standards) and then finnaly releasing the great review, or great speech about gaming news Love your channel! Keep up the amazing work!

Thank you for addressing the selfie-taking obnoxious cali-surfer makes-me-want-to-shoot-myself-in-the-face stereotype douch-bag kid character. This character is such a painful trope that he is legitimately capable of taking away the tiny bit of enjoyment I was infrequently able to find in this game. It doesn't matter if I'm 4 years old or 34 years old, this character is nothing but annoying nonsense that detracts from anything the game is trying to accomplish.

I completely agree with how the repetitiveness can be relaxing! I've poured HOURS into this game already, all because, when I had nothing better to do, I could just turn this game on and sort of go on auto pilot. I still felt the reward of progressing further in the game but without any stress or anything. Also, the "off-the-cuff" review is a great way for you to squeeze more reviews in, I think this is a format that works. You still come off WAY more professionally than a lot of other review channels.

They missed a big opportunity by not putting Link in Starlink instead of Fox

I enjoyed this game so much, you have no idea. I had already 80 hours in it after 4 days of release. I think most reviews don't give it the credit it deserves. It's a very fun game, with great combat and exploration. Plus the customization of the ships and all that are super awesome. I would probably give it a 8.5 out of 10.

Uh, 80 hours in 4 days? 20 hours a day, so you slept for 4 hours and played a game for 20 hours 4 days in a row?

I'm tired of reviews not caring about prices. The game digitally is 80 euros for the BASE version (I guess 80 dollars) and 100 for the deluxe edition. That's not a normal price and that should be considered. I am not buying the game mostly because the price is simply absurd for what it is.

Its 115$ canadien dollars with the taxes for the basic physical édition that give you only Starfox, the other human, the airwing and 2 guns. 1 fire gun and 1 ice gun. I cant solve any puzzle requiring a gravity or stasis weapon cause i need to buy more toys.

I bought this mainly because of you dude. Haven't had time to play it, but i'm looking forward to playing it

I've beaten the game, so i'll give you my opinion: Do! However, it's fairly short, so only buy the more expensive physical version if you want to collect them or have an Arwing model. The game's tons of fun, and will take quite a while to 100%.

If you have any questions, just ask! Expanding more on how long it is, I beat it in just 3 days but it was literally the only thing I did for the time. I would suspect it would take someone 10-20 hours to beat it, and 20-30 for 100% (which you can get without buying any extra stuff, which is nice).

I don't own the game yet, but I do intend on picking up the digital deluxe, but there are apparently certain puzzles in the game that require gravity or stasis weapons, which of course you will not have with the base purchase of any game...

...But I did? I have 100%-ed the game with nothing but the starter pack and one weapon pack, with a gravity weapon. The puzzles your talking about ALWAYS have canisters near them of the elements on them, so even though I don't have any stasis weapons I can pick up and throw the canisters to beat those puzzles. Oh, and there's WAY more fire/ice puzzles than gravity, and only a few stasis ones.

Arlo, I've tried to make reviews off the cuff in the past, this video was really really really good. You opened with the warning about it and I was wondering how it would influence things. As the video went on I completely forgot it wasn't scripted. That's not to say your scripted stuff is low quality, but this was just really high quality for a more stream of consciousness type review. I imagine you had an outline you followed to make sure you tackled all of the topics and that was a lot less work than a script, but the review is still very high quality. Keep making great stuff dude!

Idk, can someone explain to me whats so wrong with the story?? and also what is considered an adult storyline? totaly makes me mad...b/c i just love this stuff (always have) & im not a god damn kid! weird that people who get to know me find out im more of an adult than people twice my age. 'Ohh, let me smoke dope now or something and be an adult, u know...doing adult things!! pay my boring bills, go drinking sometimes to calm down and NOT like stories like starlink or skylanders!! maybe i should go out this weekend looking for hookers!. Thank you for doing this as from the adverts it has been really hard to understand what kind of game it is and also how you can and can't use the toys. I've been confused for a while! lol Question though. If I get the digital basic version can I then occasionally buy a new toy to use to get it all? Or am I only able to play digitally?

Here’s where I’m confused: are materials used just to upgrade or is there in game build-able weapons, ships, wings etc?

Decided I wasn't gonna buy this game about two minutes in due to gameplay alone, but your review was so thorough and tangible that I stayed through the whole thing xD this is definitely a good format, and everything you said made sense.

This game is really fun till you realize you can only have access to what you physically have when you are using g the special controller. Also from what you described those who bought the physical education are getting less when they are paying more than the digital customers. I now I feel a bit ripped off.

I think that all the physical toys that come in the starter packs, are permanently unlocked digitally as well (meaning you don't have a time limit until you have to "Reconnect" them using the adapter). I am waiting for my starter pack to arrive and then just get maybe a few more digital "packs" if I feel like it.

Fox and the Arwing are in all versions of the Switch version.

$60 with some DLC's in it? Pfff we pay €70 for that and for all the DLC, the deluxe, it's €90. (That's $103!) I am not paying that.

Thank you! It's a shame too- if Ubisoft priced it more fairly outside of the US, it could preform way better sales wise. I'm currently planning on picking it up once it's on sale in South Africa, or Russia

Just create a US Nintendo Account and buy it for 60 bucks digitally. Thats about 55€ for almost all ships, weapons and pilot. Pretty cheap for this game

Hahaha. He went with "options." So...all this dlc is "Player Choice." Dude, no. Everything in the "First Wave" of digital content is $80. We don't get this stuff for free from Nintendo or Ubisoft. I love how reviewers act like we all just have the "option" to buy a bunch of stuff that Ubisoft gutted from the game. Again, this stuff doesn't just show up on our doorstep. Gutting it all out and selling it piecemeal presents "options" only for people who have a ton of money or folks who are irresponsible with it.

@@daltonwilliams1723 I spelled that out when I mentioned the $80 digital version containing all of the DLC in "Wave 1." The stuff that is already on the disc and paygated...that you can not earn through playing. That is the definition of gutting content. Also, several reviews (Destructoid written and GameXplain on KZread...since you don't like to read, apparently) have stated that you NEED certain paygated, gutted weapons in order to beat certain late game enemies. If this game was about "options," there would be an option to earn everything as I play. If the game truly gave me the "option" to not play it as toys to life bullshit trash, then the monetization for the digital version would reflect that. I truly hope this fails miserably.

Hey Arlo. So glad you did this. The format's no issue. Would much rather have longer ramblier first impressions videos, but more games reviewed, than the alternative. Still a little sad that BotW never got a review, but the In Defense of Durablity episode is still one my favorites on that topic/game. Keep up the good work!

Question about Starlink: Have you had trouble with the controller mount / physical toys since the most recent Switch firmware / controller update of a few weeks ago? My mount doesn't recognize either of my two pair of JoyCon and I wonder how widespread the problem is?

Dude, first of all, he has told us out it so we can factor in his inevitable bias, and second, he needs to get paid for content creation. As long as he's open about it, I have no problem with someone being sponsored. He deserves to get compensated! KZread is not something we're automatically entited to on the terms that we want.

I mean oh no he got some free toys. Honestly the toys are the weakest point of the game, so if they hadn't sponsored a video by sending him a bunch of free toys his review likely would have come out no different. The game is fantastic for the first 20ish hours to beat the main story and then merely "pretty good" after that. That's the case playing with the digital edition, the digital Deluxe edition, a $400 pack of all the toys, or even only the limited stuff from the physical starter pack.

Xaelvik 1 by giving the game a fair critique and pointing out its flaws, then not giving it a perfect score. Gee I wonder who did that. And do you know Arlo? He would never try to deceive you, I can assure you this is his honest opinion. He did a review for Mario + Rabbids and he did a Ubisoft sponsored impressions for that too and that review was also still fair

@@peterjack1.0 I don't know if he would brush off the fact that u pay 80$ for a starter pack with just 1 toy in retail and 4 as digital download. And that an additional toy costs 30$. And that every of these toys act like an extra life so it's basically pay to win. The righ t move of arlo would have been to say: " I really like the game but I'm too biased to make a review for it"

oh0stv that’s fair, but toys are generally expensive to make, and you can get the full game digitally for $60. It would be nice if they gave you more ships if you buy physical but I understand why they don’t because they want you to buy the toys.

so if I buy the base game as haard copy with the basic toy I can get everything else in game?

If you buy the physical version, are you stuck with the ones that come with it? Or can you play digitally and get more weapon options?
