I've said it before and I'll say it again, NPMD has the strongest vocals of any Starkid production I've seen. Everyone was on their A-game and all of the songs fit their voices so nicely. I think the only song from a show by a NPMD actor better than their songs in NPMD is Angela. She's stunning always, but her performance in Friday is Black for Me is just peak use of her voice type imo. Dylan I don't have as much to compare to since all of his other SK stuff is much older, but his performance in all of Black Friday, especially his solos, were some of my favorite parts of the show vocally. TGWDLM is a super fun show, but not many of the vocals really blew me out of the water other than Mariah. What I would really love to see is Jon re-record Let it Out after he did all that vocal training for NPMD, like the original was rad of course, but with Jon's improvement now he'd probably kill it even harder. I realize now that this comment is very long, but I just have too many thoughts lol.

Angela is a power alto and we don't get much of those in musical theater. Mostly the sopranos (like Mariah, Jaime, Lauren and Jeff [lmao]) take the spot light. Also, Angela's solo in Black Friday is just called Black Friday.

I'm pretty sure for some parts they dubbed in the cast recordings. Sometimes the audio feels too processed and perfect for it to be the actual live performances. The 'hungry for more' bit in Dirty Girl for example sounds exactly the same as the recording. Same with the ending of Literal Monster.

For some reason I couldn't get into Black Friday though. Idk, it just feels like the weakest of the Hatchetfield trilogy for me. The songs don't do it for me, the acting felt less impressive than the others.. I dunno.

yea i feel the same way, the songs just feel kinda incohesive? like in both TGWDLM and NPMD (especially NPMD) there is *at least* two songs that just grab you and are immediately recognizable (I say at least two because i haven't seen the entirety of TGWDLM yet but I'd recognize A Cup of Roasted Coffee and Let It Out anywhere). they have a clear rhythm and melody which I feel the songs in Black Friday really lack. Even after multiple rewatches I can't remember any of the songs, only a few individual parts of them

I don't think I dislike any of the hatchetfield songs and I still adore Black Friday but of the trilogy it's probably my least favourite as it just feels a bit more lacking conpared to the rest. I go absolutely crazy to some of the songs but knowing what starkid is capable of one or two of them feel a bit basic?

I'm not a fan of what Tim wants, but it isn't the song that's the problem. The song is fine and Dylan is amazing, but the execution of it on stage just makes me uncomfortable when i watch it. Personally, the coversation at Tom's house wasn’t keeping my attention, and the song right after was a slow ballad. I count it as the first song in the show, because the first one is an in universe commercial, and as a first song it really brings down the vibe. With no choreography and an actor just singing at the audience, it felt way too soon; it would have had a bigger impact a song or two later. I know it was an "I want" song, but it didn't have that much of an impact on me, i didn't feel like i learned much about him and i still didn't feel like he was a sympathetic character. Maybe it's just me, but i wasn’t sold on him until later.

If you watch NPMD it's obvious that they spliced together video from multiple performances, and the audio is either a studio recording or the best bits from each of the individual tapings. The mixing sounds too perfect to me (especially the background vocals, i love starkid but their blending has never been the best). You can even hear a difference between NPMD and TGWDLM between the mixing and I don't think it's simply a difference between budget and equipment and the actors improving over the years
