To be honest, it should do! The point of secure red phones is that they have a dedicated line unused for anything else. But as you say, maybe they have secure phones too, or maybe he has one of the fancier encrypting phones.

Stargate really was the perfect blend of sci-fi and comedy. As well as having some of the most memorable cast, characters and expansive story lines on TV.

Softening him from the pilot's more typical 'stubborn authoritative jarhead' was one of the best decisions the writers ever made. He could still be stern when needed, but being diplomatic and kind is just as important for meeting new cultures.

The time travel shenanigans much later in the show also helped with that. He spent his whole career intentionally working to end up in a basement. That's got to take some calculated self-sabotage.

I think you need to read between the lines

"O'Neill, two Ls" is such a great joke. In the original Stargate movie Colonel O'Neil was spelled with one L everywhere. One of the criticisms that the movie got was that Col. O'Neil didn't have much humor to him. Amazing joke.

It's true to life to. It's my surname, and I often have to clarify when someone is writing it down. Occasionally, we even have to clarify "EI double-L, not EA" Was especially confusing for the teachers when I was in school, because in my school year there was me with 2 Ls, a girl with 1 L, a guy with O'Neal and even a MacNeill thrown in for good measure.

He initially refused the role becuase he didn't want to play a by the books no humor military guy like from the movie but they wanted him so bad for the role that they told him that he could do anything he wanted with the character and portray him anyway he wanted, thus we get O'Neill (two L's)

@codey morganti true. Though for me it’s lost a little in the 3rd season. To to brash and bombastic. I mean sure got a WAY bigger budget and can’t complain about the ship porn they have done. It’s just feels choppy to me

i always loved the talks between jack and daniel when jack has the ancient knowledge downloaded into his brain lol

I've been trying to think of why I liked Hammond of Texas so much, and I just realized what it was. He gave the same sort of vibes as The Fat Controller from Thomas the Tank Engine - a kind, reasonable but firm leader who treats and defends those under his command as though they were family. Easily one of the best.

She's meant to be the group's techie and scientist, but a second viewing of the series yields that she is, in fact, the demolitions expert. She's the first one with a hand on a grenade whenever something goes kaboom in stargate!

I was waiting for that too! Also missed, the rest of the scene where Jack goes completely off the rails with the condiments saying he needs a break from the loops or he'll go full on whacko! 😄

After all the grandiose pontificating speeches in Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, Lost in Space, Star Treks, Star Wars, Galactica....we needed a series that poked fun at that Shakesperian hero cliche.

Jokes aside when this Ori prior said: " ... The home of Daniel Jackson..." and the look after that... dude that froze my blood when it orginally aired. I was like: "We are so f%&ed!"

This reminds me that should Stargate ever be rebooted like I'd heard plans for, every single actor is... irreplaceable. I couldn't imagine anyone as Col. Hammond, master Bra'tac, Jack O'Neill, Teal'c, Daniel Jackson, Samantha Carter, Apophis, Baal... too many to name who were just perfect for their roles.

Stargate had the best cliches and metaphors. The SG1 world has much to learn about the Tau'ri

This will always be my favorite show

During the early seasons a bounty hunter caught SG1 and said to Danial "you’re the one who figured out how to use the gate. Your value is crazy." And he became famous in multiple galaxies

It was a great series with an amazing cast. EVERYONE involved did a fantastic job of making the cast likable and relatable. God rest those who have passed away 🙏

Bre'tac and Hammond buddy cop series would have been glroious.

This show was by far the coolest. Adventure, drama, suspense, humor, tragedy, friendships, family unit, teamwork, charm, brilliant minds, advance technology, comedy, sadness, and much more. A family show for everyone. The most exciting part was to know that it was just a show, wrote by very talented people, but it wasn't real. By the time I watched the end of the first show I was hooked. The actors brought the story up front and personal. When someone would ask what my favorite show was, I had no hesitation to answer, "Stargate SG-1". It still is.

You know, Carter is right about them not calling it the _Enterprise_ and most people think its a star trek joke... In reality, the USS _Enterprise_ (the aircraft carrier) was still in commission and so the name could not be reused

There were two _Enterprise_ carriers. The one active at the time of this show was CVN-65, the only member of her class. Its predecessor was the WWII _Yorktown_ class, CV-6. CV-6 is much more well known, due to her impressive service record during the war and being the only _Yorktown_ class to survive it. Sadly, efforts to turn her into a museum ship failed, and she was scrapped. CVN-65 does have the distinction of being the first nuclear powered carrier, though. And now that CVN-65 has been decommissioned, there is a _Gerald R. Ford_ class carrier under construction that is slated to carry the name again.

You really should have done a smash cut from "There are no fish in my pond," to the scene with a fish leaping out of his pond, and him quipping "Close enough."

I love how the Nox just refer to it as "Doorway" suprise nobody used the most simplist term. The writing is so brilliant

The creators of the show addressed that. Basically 'It saves time and money from inventing a new language, then the SG team spending weeks learning that...' But my personal thoughts always been everyone speaks Goa'uld, since theyre the ones that spreak humanity around the Milky way. And in Atlantis, everyone speaks ancient. And the show just translates for us.

Yeah they did a pilot where everyone spoke Icelandic, but the focus group didn't like it, so they reverted to English. Suits me.

@@merlyworm I was joking when I wrote this. But your comment is a good explanation of the need for such a compromise indeed. I love when shows are realistic and they try to get specific languages, but it is understandable given the resources. Another idea could be that they’d explain they have advanced equipment that automatically translates the other languages and feeds the english version into their earsets.
