Starfrit 93209 Rotato Express Electric Peeler Review

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hi Guys, today I’m reviewing the Starfrit Rotato Express. It’s an electric peeler, you can plug it in or use 4 aa batteries. LINK to Starfrit Rotato Express: amzn.to/1WdgzXL
This is designed to peel potatoes, cucumbers, apples, pears, citrus fruit. Anything you’re peeling cannot be higher than 5.5 inches tall so if you’re peeling a long cucumber, cut it in half so the unit can grip the cucumber firmly.
This peeler measures 11 inches tall by 5.5 inches wide. It weighs a little over a pound so it’s very light. The unit comes with an instruction manual, plastic knife that’s stored under the base. You can use the knife to remove potato eyes and blemishes. There are two extra blades included. This unit is plastic and has a non-slip base so it shouldn’t move around on your counter.
Let’s test this peeler. Recently I have some sort of allergic reaction when I peel potatoes by hand and I got this as a very thoughtful gift. So let’s start with a potato. Put a cloth down to catch the peels. Put the potato on the bottom food holder and press down a little. Lower the upper food holder so it holds the potato. Raise the cutter arm so it’s on top of the potato. This is sharp. Press the red button and it should start peeling. It should stop automatically when the arm reaches the bottom. Lift the upper food holder. Grab the potato, rock it back and forth and pull it towards you. Don’t pull it straight up or you may get stabbed.
Next, I’ll try a mango. Mangoes are slippery and a lot of people have a hard time peeling them. I’ll try a pear next. Let’s try a lemon. It’s nice to get a long curl which is good for decorating your plate. The pear was also peeled well.
To clean, use a damp soapy cloth and wipe dry. This peeler is great for people who have difficulty with their hands and using regular manual peelers. It did a good job on everything I tried to peel.
I hope you found this review helpful. Don’t forget to subscribe and I’ll see you next time. Thanks for watching :)

Even tho this review is several years old, it's still timely and Amazon still carries this product. Thank you for demonstrating on not only a potato, but on the apple, pear and lemon as well. I was especially interested in how well it peels apples and lemons too. My arthritis is making it necessary to buy a gadget and this one looks great for a few cents over $15 in Nov 2021. Big thumbs up.

I like this. Put the lemon peel in a food processor and make lemon zest for future use. Just store it in the freezer or fridge, depeding on how long you intend to keep it stored.

I bought mine preowned without a manual. My main use was to peel 3 bushels of apples. I didn't realize it could be used for potatoes, mangos, etc. Today i peeled green apples for juicing, so much easier than hand peeling, as well as not losing precious pulp & juice. Thanks for the handy video. I couldn't figure out what the small knife in the botton was used for.

That was funny, when the potato fell off the first time, but it's a good way to learn how to avoid the problem. I would give this peeler an A minus, or maybe even an A. It's up to you, the pro. I'm going to order one of these.

Excellent review, and excellent product. It is really amazing!!! You mentioned the largest item to be peeled, about 12 centimeters. But you don't mention the smallest one. There are, for example, small red radishes that measure just about 4 centimeters. Can the be peeled with this apparatus? Thanks and best wishes.

My mother hated peeling potatoes, they became very slippery to hold firmly as the peel was removed. She then used a paper towel to hold them while peeling which did help quite a bit, but would have enjoyed using this gadget.

That usually happens because people don't read the directions. I love mine because I can't use a hand-held peeler to save my life. Seems I'm all ''thumbs".......lol.....and my potato, or whatever ends up rolling across the kitchen floor, so, for me , this peeler is a life saver. I used to have the manual one, then graduated to the electric. The price is right, and does what it says. What more could you ask for? And yes, you can use it as a semi-spiralizer and make strands of fruits and veggies for toppings or salads, etc. So, in that respect, it sort of multi-tasks.

If you very lightly spritzed some sort of vegetable oil on the lower spikes to aid removal afterwards, do you think there'd be any loss in the gripping force or would multiple prongs deeply embedded into a potato, plus the holding arm, keep it just as secure? Thanks for this video by the way, I'm disabled, and looking for some devices to help me out 😊

I purchased one and went through perhaps a dozen potatoes it doesn't work anywhere as well as her results. I found that for potatoes peeling it requires at least two passes and I STILL need to use a peeler afterwards though it does make peeling with a hand peeler easier.

I had a $200 commercial "orange peeler" machine that just bit the Dust UGH. So, thank you for this video. I'm looking forward to getting it I would put big end of the food down but I guess obviously it works either way...but again make sure to do it again 2 times to get all that white stuff off LOL

I would have to concur... the motor even sounds cheap. The whole unit looks very cheaply made. Kind of redundant when you still have to get your manual peeler out at the end to finish the job? With that said, she did a good job. Just looks like a shoddy product.

After you peel the fruit/veggie, you can keep on going and make strands of mango, for instance, to use as a topping on cheesecake, same with the pear or apple, it gives you nice strands of fruit to work with, so not only does it peel, you can make a fruit salad using strands of fruits. All kinds of possibilities.

Thank you for your honest review, however, I think it will take longer to peel potatoes with this machine than it would to peel them with a normal potato peeler. I could have peeled by hand four potatoes in the time it takes to insert one potato onto the device, adjust the peeling arm and wait for it to peel the potato. Although it would be helpful for someone like yourself who has an allergy, this is a gadget I would definitely have to pass on. Not worth the money or time.
