Starfleet's Most Advanced Ship? - Crossfield-class - Star Trek Starships Explained

Ойын-сауық

Throughout the Star Trek Universe, Starfleet has had experimental starships such as the Prometheus-class Starship and even the Excelsior class, but the Crossfield-class starships, notably the USS Discovery and its experimental technology, the Spore-Drive system, were among the most experimental so far. Here's the history of the Crossfield-class Starship!

    While at times a bit confusing, I've always liked the Crossfield design. For the same reasons i really like the NX-01 design. I can see the R&D folks trying out a triangular secondary hull as a carrier for small fighter or rescue craft and then realizing the test-bed abilities afforded to such a huge ship. And the refit is just gorgeous.

    Personally i think Lorca destroyed the Glenn to keep Discovery unique and the technology under his control. Man was nothing if not calculated. He wouldn't have destroyed the Glenn if there was even a chance he would benefit from it being salvaged.

    The USS Discovery, the most advanced federation ship and at the same time the oldest, unique in the entire fleet and so different from others. It carries the name best suited to explore our universe and others, our timeline and alternate timelines, it has gone where no one has ever gone before and continues to blaze a trail into the future. What a glorious ship 💙🖤

    5:00. If I remember correctly, it 3189 when the Discovery ended up in the 32nd century. It was 3188 is when Michael Burnham ended up there, crash-landing the Red Angel suit. She went for over a year before finding them. For Discovery, it had only been a few days. Your year of 3180 is too soon, as it is already 3191.

    Back in the 1980s, a friend I knew at school who had a Startrek Board Game, in the starship manual there was TOS and refit starships of Starfleet, Klingon, and other races, there was a TOS vessel design called the Larson Class, but in the Starfleet vessel refit was a vessel class called the Bakerfield Class, which I always refered nick named as a Bakerloo which has a Almost a very similar design concept to the Discovery. Espically on the triangle design.

    The McGuffin class, just when you thought Kurtzman was done with lore shattering BS after the Rheman Warbird “Scimitar” was built in secret by escaped slaves under the Romulans nose in their home system no less. Ya that double shielded, perfectly cloaked, battle carrier had more firepower than Star base 1

    I remember when I first saw Discovery some years ago when they revealed and I was not a fan. As I watched the series the design grew on me and I really started to like the design of the ship itself. The 32nd century refit is a work of art as far as I'm concerned. I think it looks better then most of the other 32nd century ships, most like due to the fact that it has the old Starfleet silhouette. Plus it's not just white. New Starfleet has waaaay too much white for my liking.

    There's a handful of reasons from what Im aware of, be it someone's sole reason or a combination. The design language/aesthetics of ships, Klingons, and uniforms. Heavy focus on action. The hostility of characters twords one another along with what many perceived as political agenda pushing. Burnham feeling like a mery sue/fan fiction OC.

    If the nacelles were 10% shorter, the saucer was filled in and didn't spin around, and the hull was brighter, I would be a big fan of the Crossfield Class. I know what they were going for, the design conveying speed while standing still, but it feels like they pushed the idea ever-so-slightly too far.

    Design that can do all and save the day better than your old, outdated relic! Give me a break. This design should have been nothing more than a rejected refit Connie design, and this whole show should have been better looked over by people who actually give a damn about bringing Star Trek fans together. Look, I'm a fan of Enterprise, so I understand enjoying something that a majority of others may dislike. More power to you, if you enjoy this stuff. That bring said, just as you have the opion it is good, or moderate at least, my opinion is that these writers and producers should have done a lot more homework, and a lot less self-inserting their crappy fanfiction storytelling.

    Well, the spore drive still needs an operator which is impossible to obtain in mass scale due to the regulations and prohibitions for eugenic experiments in the federation and because of the destruction of Kwejian due to the DMA which resulted in the elimination of almost all empaths. That would explain why the Pathway Drive is a better solution although idk what it is but could be related to a kind of warp.

  • @bramvanzijp

    @bramvanzijp

    Ай бұрын

    @@Ultra_YT_ In the season 3 finale, it was also mentioned that the DNA stamets has would be quite hard to re-obtain, considering the tardigrade is extinct and the DNA fused with stamets DNA. So even if said experiments are still banned (which I doubt) it would not be that easy. As for the pathway drive, it seems to somehow just be an enhanced warp drive considering its mentioned that in the opening of season 5, they could have pulled a ship out of warp if they had a pathway drive, implying that the drive at the very least operates in a simular capacity to the standard warp drive, but with more speed/power/force/etc.

    Im not a fan of discoverys later seasons. Pike getting involved was good and season 3 was ok but when it became 35 mins of therepy sessions with some sci fi it got boring fast. But the ships? I liked the ships of season 1 and 2. Brought that period of trek upto date for us model collectors. I dont buy detached sections though. Because how many times do ships lose power completely. You dont want your nacelle floating off into space do you.

    People are still allowed to have an opinion, negative or otherwise. There's plenty of folks who were quite happy with all the previous ST shows, even the other current shows but they just don't like Discovery. Personally I fall in to that category. I enjoyed every series of 'old Trek', I like Strange New Worlds, I like Lower Decks, wasn't overly impressed by the first season of Picard but got further enjoyment from the second season and the third Season was pretty good. Discovery however I just cannot for the life me get along with. I cannot stand it, I hate the characters, I dislike the overarching story, I dislike just about everything to do with it and god knows I have tried to watch it, I audibly groan and cringe multiple times with every episode. It has gotten somewhat better with further seasons but there is just something about it, I don't even know what it is I just really really dislike it. Sorry.
