Stardust: Creating UI Scan Animations with OBJs

Фильм және анимация

I've had a lot of request for tutorials on these animations so I quickly put a video together to walk through how I setup my animation and also making this effect from scratch.
I know I haven't done any videos in awhile, there are so many new Stardust Features I haven't covered, BUT im just so busy! I will try to create some more videos for everyone soon. In the meantime, enjoy this one.
0:01 Intro
1:44 Walkthrough of my animation setup
13:00 Creating the setup from scratch
17:46 Wrap up / Final Thoughts
Best of luck in your stardust adventures.

    Hey All, And thank you @FriedPixels for the great tutorial. I found out how you can make it go in he right sequence. You need to reorder the Vertex order in your 3D software. In Maya you do this selecting Reorder Vertices command and then select 3 vertices were you want this effect to initiate from (Ex. the front of the nose). this will reorder everything from those 3 points. It has nothing to do with UV map, you can do the same without any UVs.

    That is the million dollar question that I don't have the scientific answer to, By bringing various geometry across different formats and software, I can say that its something akin to the creation order of the geometry. So if its retopo'd you can sorta have a uniform effect. The Ideal situation is to also have it UV'd and then you can get very speific with using maps to drive it. Otherwise its sorta a free for all, and it'll jump all over the place. Hope that makes sense. I'm sure the stardust team has a proper response lol

  • @friedpixels

    @friedpixels

    I actually don't fully understand how it is generated the point order. I mentioned it might be UVs, because sometimes it moves around seams but I think its actually the creation order of points in the modeling process. You should send an email to the support team, they might have a better answer for you! Sorry it isnt working! :(

    So which is faster to render and work with when you have a large or even medium number of particles in your scene with more than a 3 second life span? Stardust or Particular?

  • @friedpixels

    @friedpixels

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hey -- To be completely honest, I haven't used the latest versions of Particular in awhile but I really think it depends on a lot of variables. What types of particles, what kind of scene, how many particles, what kinda box your on -- lots of factors. I think every tool has its purpose and I think its all about finding what works for you and what you are comfortable working with. I know its a lame answer, but its the best I can do! haha

  • @dizz740

    @dizz740

    4 жыл бұрын

    friedpixels thanks man, not lame at all. Thanks for taking time to answer. If you’ve not used the latest Particular then you can’t know so it’s all cool. I was just thinking Stardust might be a significant leap over the speed of Particular in the same way that Particular was over the stock particle effects in AE.

  • @friedpixels

    The sequence effect is based on OBJ point creation order and there is no sure way to controls specific start and end point. If you need to create very specific animations I would suggest another method augmented with this. cheers.

    I don't have anything fancy, after effects is mostly single processor, so any latest cpu of your choice will do. Stardust does take advantage of GPU so that is always helpful too if you have a decent card. I have an i7 6core 32 gb of ram and 2 1080 TIs, but the cards are mostly for GPU rendering in 3d.

    Is there any way to get rid of the few frames where it emits particles on all vertices when emitting sequentially from the edges?

  • @friedpixels

    @friedpixels

    2 жыл бұрын

    That is a great question that I do not know the answer to. you can create your system and then do the stardust time remapping so that you can choose the frame to start on and finish, but thats a hack not fix.

  • @Freshmograph

    @Freshmograph

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@friedpixels I was playing with it a bit today and I found that if you crank up the particle count really high (500k) and also the edge sampling (30-50) it minimizes the vertex particles quite a bit. I would do the time remapping trick but the edge particles are being emitted at the same time that the vertex points are visible. I was hoping that it only occurred at the start of the comp, but it repeats unfortunately.

    Intersting, yes they changed Face Outline to Edges in newer builds. Should work fine, if not try reducing your amount of particles to low to see results and then increase. Also make sure your subdivions arent really high at first, you could be trying to create a ton of particles. GL
