Armada has been in an odd place for the past few years, no doubt. No ships, no rules etc. but mainly it was announced as being done but ships still being produced for a while. A complete game, if you will. But then yeah the devs openly said that clearly some factions needed more ships. Even said just like 2 weeks ago in an interview with Crabbok. To then end the selling of ships now just seems so odd, honestly. And it still had a decent playercount at Worlds.
This is sad news. X-wing was one of the most immersive and accessible way to introduce new players to table top miniatures (especially star wars fans). It was the first game that made you feel immersed as a pilot, and to date I hold a lot of miniature games to that standard of immersion and pacing. You can even see its influence on Killteam 2.0 and gaslands. This game should have stayed with Fantasy Flight

They were doing a good job, but the IP owner did not want to please customers. They want to play mental games with customers. The inmates are running the asylum. It was better before when there were hospitals for these people with a mental disorder..
Man, armada was such a cool game. Writing had been on the wall for a long time, though. What a shame. Going to try and fill out the rest of my collection now.
Crazy. I just played a game of XWING with my partner last night. I loved this game, so many good memories.
You see the whole article in my video obviously, but here's the link: www.atomicmassgames.com/transmission/update-on-star-wars-x-wing-and-star-wars-armada/
I wonder how long it will take for them to kill off star wars legion, it's been downhill even since they took over from fantasy flight games

AMG devs ruin everything it touches. Remember these are the same devs who worked for privateer press and killed some of their biggest games there
Man, i actually enjoyed xwing, v1. Solid example of a game that from opening to playing, was such a sweet, fast cycle.
The worst part of this is how it will make it impossible to find players who aren't already into X-Wing or Armada (I have and like both). I can't imagine someone getting into a customizable game where they can't build their own squads/fleets because they don't have the ships.
X-Wing survived the reboot, Covid and global slowdown. It didn’t survive AMGs mishandling of the rules into 2.5 which NOBODY was asking for. Should be a case study in how to pick up a system with a community (albeit a smaller one after FF annoyed everyone with 2.0 and conversion kits), and absolutely face plant the landing.
@timunderbakke8756

110%. The community banded together in Covid to keep it alive on TTS. We were ready for the come back to the local game store, and we did come back ready to go…. …just in time for AMG to say “hey, let’s totally nuke it and make it unlike the game you all love and more like our favorite toy Marvel Crisis Protocol, the bestest eva!” I will never buy another game developed or supported by those individual devs at AMG, even if they move to another company having destroyed this one

It is embracer group dumping huge debts on asmodee. They have to cut costs and armada and xwing are both much more expensive to produce than the other games.

@@bionicgeekgrrl true - but to be honest.. the crowd I was playing with weren’t that bothered about a full.. regular release cycle of models. A trickle would have sufficed in the short/medium term, with maybe some points and rules tweaks. Enough to know things were still ticking over. Maybe stir the meta every 6 months or so. No one really cared for objectives. Most didn’t like random activation. Most were annoyed by list building restrictions that killed generics/swarms, and there were some really annoying synergies that made no thematic sense. You can argue that a community could just stick with 2.0 (and a small number have, god bless ‘em).. but people like to feel they are part of a live community with a living game. AMG took an ill considered gamble with the core experience, and most of the community took a hard pass and looked for other live systems (Infinity in my case) to get involved with.

I never managed to buy the game. Everything got in the way since several months ago. Extra bills to pay, exchange rate issues that reduced my salary to a point I almost was underwater, so I could not move from the cart to an order. It is like having it at my fingertips and being unable to grab it.
I would be interested to know about the profit and loss on prepainted/assembled miniatures? I guess given the production costs they'd have to up the prices, or supply unpainted but given that community is accustomed to a certain standard. They've got mcp and shatterpoint going so I can understand why they might have diverted resources. That said just because a Company is no longer supporting and Game doesn't mean all your stuff is now useless... Mordheim is still a thing... Guildball was still a thing till steam forge picked it up again though given they've got warmachine I wouldn't be suprised if it gets dropped again. The X-wing community is pretty massive and the tournament scene, no reason why the community cant handle patches and gameplay formating going forward. I mean looking at both mordhiem and guild ball the community can add aditional content, models etc. after a Developer moves on.
8:35 Rules are available free on-line
X-wing V2 killed it for me. I didn't want to buy all the upgrade boxes to switch.
@ausmax1972

Funnily enough, the faction specific conversion kits were part of what made v2 not financially successful. They were just such a good deal for existing players (compared to making people rebuy the reprinted ships with the 2.0 cards), they killed the financial viability of the game. This was because the majority of the player base didn't need to buy the new reprints as they added no new content, and the game wasn't growing fast enough. Which meant that the conversions, designed to keep as many 1.0 players as possible in the game, were a short term success, but long term failure.

Copyright should be abolished. Copyright creates a monopoly. If there was no monopoly there would be competition. They would be forced to make best products to survive in a market with competition.
X-wing is a really good game 1st demo I had at the club I was hocked . Spent massive amount of money , if the community comes together with rules game play etc then that’s a good thing , end of the day this news don’t really change much at least we know now , can still battle against your mates lol.

Nothing wrong with that, That way they can't screw them up... Play the game, have fun!!! I'm going to buy the hell out of it on discount, now!!!
I’m surprised it took this long honestly…
We need to design a PDF printable game with tokens. Printing miniatures to replace tokens should be easy. Just do not use Star Wars logo or brand or thngs that could lead to a lawsuit. Make game under creative commons.

Maybe shouldnt have taken the dog fighting out of the dog fighting game. 2.0 was good without the objective memes play.
X-wing on prime was unbeatable
It's not complete, they just don't want to continue to develop it. They can keep selling existing stock, but they are leaving the game in a bad state balance wise, people might have been abit happier if AMG had atleast balanced the factions before calling it quits, rather than ignoring the player base for the last year.
@ausmax1972

To be fair, they've been ignoring X-wing for more than a year, and Armada has been effectively complete since they shifted it to AMG.
It’s been dead for a while at local games stores trying to offload product at a discount.

Core box sales is the core stat for publishers, as expansions only sell a fraction of copies of the core box. It behaves like movie tickets, good sales that are gradually fading.

Also used to play X-wing back in the day. Eventually quit when they released that B-wing pilot that gained focus instead of stress, that plus the Millenium Falcon just turned it into a broadside game instead of a maneuvering game. But the game was fun when you found one of those rare players that liked to play the full game.

This is what I find confusing. The game is not going to evaporate. You own the game, you own the models, you enjoy playing? Just keep playing.
And they are *not* continuing to sell ships. This is another of AMG's lies. Certain ships have been impossible to find (except at obscene, secondary market prices) for quite some time. And I will never pay twice retail cost, much less ten times retail cost.

Having read a bit of Reddit it seems clear they won't sell it. I was just working on the weirdness of them saying the game is done but they'll still support Tournament. So they could have wanted to still sell ships for people to play in those tournaments. But no.

I absolutely loved X-Wing V1. The KZread channels that did unboxing videos and talked strategies for the new cards. The switch to a more "fluid" points system in V2, and then asking everyone to practically re-purchase their entire collection, immediately killed it for my group. Armada is such a niche game. More complicated than you'd think at first, but really really fun. I love my collection of it, too. The thing I appreciate the most is the models for both games are practically showroom quality. Even if I don't play, they're display worthy and look great.
So make unpainted miniatures. Duh. Make it a starter set board game for Target, Wal-Mart, etc.
They aren’t keeping up with the ships so they killed the game and let them decay. This company is awful.
In a series in which so much of the wars takes place in the stars it's absolutely absurd we no longer have a single space battle tabletop game. It's absolutely ridiculous.
Why does xwing not have a button to say I dislike this without dislike your video. :( this saddens me.
I have never seen anyone play these games at any game shop i have been to.

I assume your comment is meant to imply it wasn't a very successful game, but V1 X-wing *objectively* outsold literally every other competitor at the time, including GW's flagship 40k and AOS. That's right, X-wing at one point was the highest selling miniatures game of all time. So it's pretty sad how far it fell from grace.
@GlassHalfDead

Yeah, I didn't dive into the history of the games, but I have elsewhere (or... I at least wrote it in my nolonger upcoming wtf is xwing in 2024 script lol). XWing was the game that finally dethroned 40k to the point that GW had to totally revamp their customer approach. It seems to have been the one and only time another system has made GW take ANY notice, and competition made them better. Sadly GW has once again grown to become unchallenged and so is now ignoring useful things.

Sad, but not entierly unexpected. X-Wing has a hell of a community even now though. It may well survive in the same way Bloodbowl did.
Probably due to licensing fees.
Trash company cries for Star Wars license. Gets it. Lies about supporting the two most popular games for three years. Finally admits they don't have any plans after no new releases in multiple years. Nobody should be surprised by this. AMG had every opportunity to not kill either game and refused to take it.
@ausmax1972
17 күн бұрын
Asmodee gave the licence to AMG, I doubt AMG asked for it. Had they wanted X-Wing, they would have done more with it (like added it to their company website in the first year) To me (Played X-wing from 1.0 until COVID lockdowns and 2.5 killed it near me), AMG got the 3 FFG games dumped into their lap right as their own game (MCP) was picking up, and they had no resources and plans for them. They cobbled together X-Wing 2.5 to 'fix' what they thought was the problems (but misjudged much of the vocal player base), and gave X-Wing and Armada little extra energy. They focussed on Legion, as it was closer to their vision of a game (it has hobby and painting for example), and created Shatterpoint.
In order for a successful resurrection one must wait for at least 3 days (or years).
My guess is that the license wasn’t renewed by Disney.
Star Wars is truly dead.
