Star Wars Studio Scale Y-Wing Model!
Ғылым және технология
In the making of Star Wars, there are few model miniatures more detailed and beautiful than the Y-Wing made by ILM. Modelmaker Dave Goldberg shares with us his masterful studio scale build of the rebel starfighter, alongside his builds of the Tantive IV escape pod and Tatooine moisture vaporators. Dave's scratch-built models are a true labor of love and a sight to behold!

I just love the designs of everything in the Original Trilogy, they all felt so functional in the mean time out-worldy and also Iconic
I absolutely love the weathering on those models, they look so used and dirty, like they have a real story behind them

I've started using weathering powders on models in the last year or two and it can add so much to a kit or a build.

Lorcan Nagle I'm not a maker but I've just bought a Revell kit again after a long time, and I am thinking about giving it my own touch by adding some weathering to it, not sure about it yet though. It can make models look so amazing if done right, but if not it just looks weird ^^'

I personally am the opposite. I like cars/ships/planes to be highly polished, as if they've rolled off the factory floor completely untouched.

That was one of my problem with the prequels. Everything looked shiny.
He is an absolute modeling master! The details and weathering are mind blowing.

Storytelling through model building, love it, love it, love it! Who could possibly dislike this great presentation?!
Love the Y-Wing!
Been wanting to do a Y-wing just as long.....time has come.
That's amazing craftsmanship
That man's passion and the way he clearly loves to talk about his projects is very endearing. Some of these interviews can be a bit cringey but I enjoyed every minute of this one!
I totally LOVE Dave's description of his details and build. Great video.
Always loved the Y Wing, the A10 Warthog of the Rebel forces.

Absolutely marvellous. The y wing is my second favourite ship after the falcon. And I never knew about the origin of the escape pod. A fabulous video. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful Y Wing 💜
Amazing, as always. As much as I love the Clone-era designs there's something "romantic" about the OT-era

Its called industrial or lived in.
Gorgeous models and fantastic paint jobs. :)
The detail on those things are really neat! Very well done!
Man, all of these are absolutely stunning, but that BTL-A4 Y-Wing is a showstopper. Damn, she's gorgeous. Love it.
how adorable is this little Y-Wing. an awesome rendition
You should put all the paneling and bubble turret in the Y-Wing to make it the way it used to be the first time it was used in the Clone Wars.
Amazing work wow !!!!!! As a life long star wars fan I am in awe
Insanely good work on all 3 of these
These are my favorite Tested videos
That's absolutely fantastic work!
Incredible talent and passion - thanks for sharing
These things look incredible
That is one beautiful paintjob on the Y-Wing. He's right, making the fuselage a darker, metallic colour really sells the of 'technical' areas that should normally be covered up. And I really does remind me of jet engines, amazing work.
Thanks to Dave Goldbergs drawings im gonna start my scratchbuilt Gold Five -very excited! I dont think even ILM models guys spent that much time on their Y-wings!
That is the best Y-Wing I have ever seen!!! (Better then screen used!)
I love the Sherman tank suspension parts in the escape pod.
Dave si a Genius. Everything he builds is Fabulous!
Awesome Y-wing. Hoping to build one...... someday.
Working for Savage must be a great gig! So cool!
The Koensayr BTL-S3 is just an amazingly beautiful starfighter.
The moisture evaporator is really a super bong, just ask Mark Hamill. Lol

That Y wing is amazing! I'm trying to do something similar with Slave 1 on my channel.
Now everything's all CG . Great video I love this 👍
Good job Norm. You're getting better!
I got to see the Lucas Collection of the real props in San Fancisco Mosconi Center back in the 2000's! It was an amazing experience. Went 3 days in a row so I could catch as much as I could.
Man that Y wing is ..gorgeous!
Y-Wing is my favorite fighter craft! I will pump those out of the factory all day every day! 60% of the time they win the battle everytime!
I just finished putting together Lego's new UCS Y-Wing at just under 2000 pieces. It is amazing looking at that set and this one here and seeing how much work they put into getting as many of the details as they could into the Lego set. I think it is pretty close to studio scale.
Wow these are great
amazing stuff, the man is a genius
OMG SO PERFECT! YOU'RE A GENIUS! LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!
I wonder if he's even seen The Clone Wars series, where there are MANY Y-Wings in their original, completed form. Shown on screen flying in Squadrons by the Clone Troopers of the Grand Navy of the Republic. He talks here about Joe Johnston's early statements about the Y-Wing's intended aesthetic, meant to look like many of the body panels had been removed and just left off for easier maintenance. So, he's clearly aware that the history exists, I'm just curious if he knows that history has indeed been shown in Star Wars media since then. Such an iconic design, and it obviously makes for an amazing display model. 👍
You get rust on things in dry desert areas. It takes more time, but the heat makes any moisture that condenses at night caus rusting like what you see on the vaporator.

You can almost tell from the name that the moisture evaporator is exposed to moisture :P
Beautiful model work, really wiped the mat with these models. He should have a catchphrase, something like "WHAT'S NEXT"! :)
Awesome!!
Wow, just perfect 👍
Brilliant y-wing!
That Y-wing is fooking sexy, they also look pretty cool with fuselage too.
Dave G is the man!
Awesome.
Absolute unit
Damn, some nice replicas
"used shit" 10/10 best video.
That Y-Wing is frickin boss😲
The y-wings were in the star wars the clone wars tv series. They had all of the paneling. In the more recent star wars rebels tv show the y-wings were without panels and were in line to be scrapped. The rebels took the y-wings from the empire and put them to good use. Nicely done with all your models.
The Y-Wing is the absolute best looking ship in Star Wars.
Norman can we please see some fan made replica helmets?
I raise my glass of purple milk to this modeler’s skills.
I wish these models were being produced on a wider scale. I very much prefer pre-painted model sets.
Now that the new Y-Wings with the covers on have been shown in Star Wars Rebels, he can make the outer panels so they can be attached and detached! :)
I never knew the escape pod had a caution stripe on it.
It makes me realize the Clone Wars y-wing was pretty spot-on
If you watch the clone wars you can see what the y wings look like with the paneling
There should be a retcon of some sort where the Y-wing is literally cobbled together from common components... perhaps the sleek cockpit is from a common racing speeder, while the central T and engines could be the powerplant and business end of some industrial-scale asteroid mining jet flame thing. Would be a nifty Y-wing origin story comic, I imagine.
too cool dave
that is a sexy Y-Wing I really love Y-Wings its great that Dave loves Y-Wings as well he did a fantastic job.
I love the ingenuity of the props & special effects of those old movies. The limits of technology brought the best out of their imaginations. I've never heard of computer 3D/CGI animators making props from KFC buckets lol
I recognize a lot of parts on these. I used to build model tanks and all the gubbins are from Tamiya and Italeri kits.
Incredible stuff. Now, he made me wonder how the Y-Wing would look if the rebels had put all the covering panels and had it look very aerodynamic as Dave said. Edit: Thank you to those who have commented about the Clone Wars Y-Wing! I should have read the comments before adding my own!

there's more, actually. In the crossection books (either the very first one or the first compilation, I'm unsure if it's featured in later crossection compilations) there's an original, first picture of a y-wing with panels on, it looks very similar to the "naked" one and much different from one from Clone Wars. If You google "y-wing crossection" there should be a picture of it, it's in the right down corner of the page.
RIP Tiree and Hutch. They were come-from-behind kinda guys.
i spot a ww2 german tank fire extinguisher and a jack. Thats so cool.
Now THAT is something to be jealous of...
Cool
This guy should be working on the next star wars
Why did 21 people dislike this video? I find their lack of faith disturbing!
You cant be wrong if everything in the model is wrong. I like his logic! Kidding aside, amazing models.
wow the whole panel missing topic on Y wing was amazing info, and KFC chicken bucket, origins, great interview
Vanguard y-wing!
I adore star wars, but I really want to see that Samus helmet in the background
I’m now going to go build a Y Wing in scrap mechanic
Хоть я и русский, ничего не понимающий в английском, всё равно интересно смотреть видео с канала, который создал кумир детства.
And of course, I had ti IMMEDIATELY queue up my copy of Star Wars to the escape pod sequence...
Nice.
Its funny how even something as simple as an escape pod is more interesting and magical than any ship in the new trilogy...It just shows how the original will live forever as classic cinema and the Disney ones will be forgotten as hollywood blockbuster trash
That dude waving his hands around those models while he was interviewing was making me a nervous wreck
What was the scene he was talking about at the beginning?
Please Adam test Building Sleven.
While watching, I think of Simone, how she's doing after the bad news I heard two days ago.
Ya 10k or wait for Bandai to make a perfect grade Y-wing for $350
Is it me or the Y-Wing's livery is the same as the Vanguard Squadron one in Star Wars : Squadrons?
Star Wars porn 😍
Where's the window on the escape pod (C3PO looks back and comments on damage on blockade runner)?

That's just one of the many inconsistencies between the VFX and live action footage in the film. There is a small rectangular window on the original model but it obviously doesn't match/
@Akm72

Maybe it was a screen rather than a window.
Amazing model maker.
Things don't rust in space,. even in Star Wars. The only ships highly weathered are those that enter atmospheric conditions, which is most of them.
