Star Wars Prop Build
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
We have always wanted to create a Star Wars Prop influenced by the films; take it from concept, through design, and finally come out with our own prototype. We also wanted to build pieces that others could pick up and put into their own projects. That's what today's Star Wars Prop Build is all about!
Do you want to build your own Droid Socket? Maybe a full kit? Or even just a few parts to use in your own geeked out project? We have you covered and you will find all the parts you need in our Cargo Hold

Keith Jackson I loved that too. But maybe I’m that new idiot. Lol. Because when Brian got to attaching the middle 2 blocks, I wasn’t sure where the alignment was exactly at. Even after he moved not the scene where it was now glued
Like a poster below, I made it about halfway through the video before I jumped to the store and ordered the full kit. This is exactly the sort of thing I was wanting for my full scale R2 build. Thanks for the fantastic design and execution. I bet the pile of parts from iterating the design is impressive.

Something you might want to consider...timer motors. Not as common as they used to be , but are great slow turning motors. The downsides are the rpm is usually fixed - from one quarter rpm to maybe sixty , and the are typically 120 volt AC , but they are durable and long lived. Just make sure it's a " continuous duty" model. They still pop up as surplus every now and then. For something like your basement build , they might have a use..

Hey there, we did use the Glowforge for this project. I’ve used it for EVA foam with much success. You have to be sure to verify the materials the foam is made of so it doesn’t harm the laser, but there are helpful notes in the Glowforge community posts on that.
Where do the wires lead to at the end when you had like ten of them coming out of the hole on the top or bottom? What voltage were you using. If it was low, why not keep the wires inside the box and create a switch using one of the buttons you added? You never mentioned where the wires were heading to. This item is so cool. When it's back in stock I think I'll order one for my R2D2 room.

LOL I love your editing style and confidence in front of the camera. Half my brain watches the prop build and half watches the editing 'oohh nice close up.." :D
Great build... as for motorizing the interface pieces are you planning to add gear teeth to the outer diameters of each layer's ''disk'' and with small motors and an arduino or similar small pc to randomly move each layer with a small proximity switch triggered when you motion close to the interface?😎

Thank you! To be honest we have not entirely figured out how all of it will move. Each "wheel" is isolated, but the real trick is hiding any of the mechanical aspects of the prop so you don't see the gears or motor connections. Should be fun to figure it out!

@@TheSmugglersRoom I am thinking to make simpler only a few layers need to move so use thin clear material at a diameter large enough to be hidden inside to move those few layers... but i am but a mere dreamer...you are the geek that makes it happen!😁
Interesting

We do not currently have the files for sale, but we are considering it.
Will you have completely assembled versions up on the site or will they be all DYI? Just inquiring for people who maybe want to buy as a gift.

Thank you! I sure hope we get to a project like that soon!
So, today, I went to your video notes to add all the items you use to make this. So that when my kit comes in, I am ready to go. Filled the Amazon cart....financially painful, but still excited. ThenI clicked the laser cutter, holy smokes! It ranges from $2500 to $6000... and that’s if you were referred. If not, the price is 3x So, let me remind #thesmugglersroom how happy I am that I can get kits. As there is no way I can afford the laser cutter. But that’s not to say I won’t keep revisiting the page to smash my nose against the virtual glass as I window shop. Brian, what version of the 3 do you have?

Hi Garland!!! Thank you so much for purchasing a kit. So excited to see how yours turns out. Yeah . . . the laser cutter isn't a cheap purchase. We saved for almost 4 years to get the cutter. Even then, it was soooooo hard to purchase! YIKES. it's wonderful, but took a long time to get it. We purchased the Pro version. Thanks again for picking up the kit!
Please update when you put motor s in
