Yeh i think the Falcon is like a space forklift or like a space truck with the trailer attachment on the front. Its so interesting to think of how the artists came up with the design

Yeah that's always been the great thing about the design, right? It doesn't look like the sleek starfighters or command ships.... there was something implied to its purpose that we just weren't seeing

The paint job on the barge is awesome. It's looks like a real piece of working working equipment. I love how you used the radar dish from the original kit to add some back story to the barge. Great job as always 👍

Great build, thanks very much for sharing! And the wooden base is a nice change from the usual sci-fi panels, it brings the model closer to traditional ship building. I love how in the SW lore, the "barge" concept, with the containers clicking into the Facon mandibles, managed to fit into the original concept of the Falcon as a cargo/transport, even though its original design left very little apparent space for extra cargo 🙂. Having said that, one could forever argue about wheteher pushing these containers (instead of carrying them internally or pulling them) would create momentum forces with every tiny change of course, that would break the whole thing apart, but that's part of the the magic of Star Wars I guess !

All the way back to 1977, my canon is that the Falcon had two escape pods, one on either side, where the two round "holes" are at the end of the corridors. Of course as stated in Star Wars, the ship was missing its escape pods.

Great project! Yep, I've long assumed the 'Falcon was a cargo pusher as well. The fork and offset cockpit make the most sense that way. Also, having strangers call it a piece of junk implies it was incomplete, or being used by Han in a nonstandard way. Like someone who's driving around town in a beat-up (but very fast) tractor! And it's not as awkward as it might seem, the Falcon would just be serving as the booster for a 'rocket' full of cargo, in a sense. Pulling the load would actually be more complicated in space, since the engine exhaust would be pointed at the cargo. In space without wind resistance, pushing the load would become just a matter of keeping the craft's trajectory steady. I was sad that this aspect of the concept (even if only implied) was misunderstood or ignored in *Solo*.

Fantastic idea and build as usual and great use of the build and play kit!!! Making the Falcon a barge tug really makes sense as per the previous comment re the cockpit and the fact that the Falcon is just basically a fairly small ship with massive engines. 😀

In X-Wing Alliance, all the Corellian freighters could tug cargo containers when using the docking claw. The Falcon's recess is a feature on the YT-1300, which enables it to push a cargo container as well. Han Solo has a warhead launcher hidden in his push coupler recess if you've ever seen the ship's cross-section.

The model should be turned 90 degrees, the cockpit was supposed to rotate inside the ship to put it on top of the barge. That also puts the "cannons" on the left and right instead of top and bottom.

No matter where the cockpit is you will only ever see half. Even terrestrial pusher tugs can only see the half above the water line. Unlike in space the radar could see the opposite side as well as back fine and a simple 180 degree roll would give you a physical view if you so desired
