    I just got into Star Wars Legion which also happens to be my first miniature game. The paining process seems very daunting for someone as non-artistic as me. However, your videos are very educational and give me confidence. I'm hoping I can star paining in a few weeks once I have gathered all material. As a beginner I will probably just stop at the base colors. They look perfect for me at that point. Thank you again for these videos.

    @@Sorastro Question on using spray can primers. I am using Army Painter White Primer, but when I use it, I don't get smooth, consistent coatings on my stormtroopers. Instead, I get a dusty type of coat that will rub off. Is this a distance or product issue?

  • @Sorastro

    @Sorastro

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@jamesarnold9533 Hi James! It could be a bit of both; some primers are just more grainy than others. Spraying from too great a distance can also cause the effects you've described, so you might want to try getting a little closer :)

    Hi Sorastro! Just popping in to say thank you for these really amazing Legion painting vids. I held off of painting my starter set for the longest time because I found the Stormtrooper's white armour waaaaay to intimidating. Thanks to you and your tutorials, I now have an almost 100% painted Imperial force! The only change that I made was to switch out the Mechanicus Standard Grey for Celestra Grey as I found that I preferred the subtler shadows that it provided. So thank you! :) Now I just have to build up the courage to tackle Vader and my fall to the dark side will be complete! XD

    I think I prefer this shading technique to the one you used for the Imperial Assault Stormtroopers. Highlighting all the armor back up to white after the nuln oil wash was tedious given the sheer number of figures, but this "lining" technique seems like it will be much faster and appeal to my short attention span.

    Tried both the IA method, and the Legion method. The IA method of priming white, adding detail and using nuln oil is so much more effective for beginners like me! Drawing on those eyes and mouth pieces without looking like moustaches and sunglasses is so hard, but it's a walk in the park with Nuln Oil getting into those recesses. They call it Liquid Talent for a reason!

  • @Sorastro

    @Sorastro

    Hi MrUzzynator! I'm glad you found my IA approach to painting Stormtroopers useful. I agree - throwing on some Nuln Oil is about as easy as painting gets; I just thought I'd present an alternative approach in the Legion video for painters who dislike the work involved in highlighting the armour back up to white after applying the shade, which I know some new painters struggle with. I feel the more options we have, the better :)

    Some people will insist on, or feel financially limited to, using cheaper craft acrylics to paint miniatures. Let me stress that WHITE is one of the colors that you really need a quality, high pigment paint, designed for models, such as citadel, Vallejo, etc. If you try a cheap white, you may have a hard time getting the coverage and texture you need, and with it, you can make a mess of your models. Spend the money for the good paint, it makes the world of difference, and is critical for white...

    Uncle Deadly I know this comment is ancient, but I'd like to absolutely stress the same with Yellow. Yellow in my opinion is sometimes even more important to get right than a nice, crisp white. There are plenty of cheap acyrilics out there which can fill many roles, however my ones I wouldn't trust at all and prefer to get proper ones when I have the avaliable cash.

    I've had better luck with a 50 cent bottle of walmart white than I ever had with Citadel whites. Citadel adds chalk to their whites and yellows and even thinned down, I've had the paint be chalky when layed down. I will sing the praises of folkarts white because it applies nice and smooth.

    Thank you, these videos are really helpful for a beginner like me. I have a question, though. I only have one hobby/gaming store within a 2-hour drive, and they don't stock Vallejo at all. Are there any substitutes in the Citadel line you could recommend for the black, white, and german grey colors?

  • @Sorastro

    @Sorastro

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hi Kruse Control! Sure - just buy Abaddon Black for the black, and you could try both the Citadel Whites - White Scar and Ceramite White - to see which you like (they're both the same colour, but the Ceramite White is thicker/more opaque). For German Grey you could just mix black with a little white, or use a roughly equal mix of Mechanicus Standard Grey and Abaddon Black. Alternatively is there anywhere online you can order Vallejo paints? (I do prefer their black and white paints to the Citadel ones) :)

I am wondering if spraying Stormtroopers (or the upcoming Clone Troopers) white and then using the white contrast would have a nice effect and make early stage painting even easier. Would love to see someone do something for Star Wars Legion with them.

    Yeah, the more I see how "gray" Corax White is, the more I think I'll try some pure white for my basecoat. Especially if I'm using the Contrast Colors by Citadel.
