I'm convinced that the nostalgia lens is the most powerful tool we use to view Star Wars through. Many folks seem to forget that when it comes to the sequels too. Children today will be grown one day though...and looking back the same way we do. My daughter adores Rey, so I don't care what anyone says about Rey, who are they to try to take that away from my child? 💖

Facts. Nostalgia plays such a big role in most people’s perspective. I know it’s blasphemy to say but even the OT isn’t as great as we all like to think it is. But none of that matters if those movies are important to us. I’m almost 40 and I love Rey about as much as Luke, and that’s something I can share with my nieces and nephews. I’m glad she’s going to get another movie.

Absolutely. Kids that grew up with these movies will come through in a decade or so. People who say that won't happen are delusional and biased. Look at the Prequels for example. They got absolutely slandered by everyone on release, especially Star Wars fans, but now, the kids who grew up with them are showing their love for them, and it'll happen with the Sequels too. At the end of the day it doesn't matter if something is objectively good or not, what matters most is how it makes you feel

I like all of the Star Wars movies. Just some more than others and sometimes depending on what kind of mood I’m in. I may be in the mood for a movie from the Original Trilogy, the Prequel Trilogy or the Sequel Trilogy.

Same here. I started off loving the prequels back when they were hated on, then I stopped liking them when the sequels came along. At which point the hate train had moved on to the sequels instead. It's kinda annoying to feel like you're always on the receiving end of the vitriol of the worst this fanbase has to offer.

I was born in '94. The OT is my personal favorite trilogy, the trilogy that's the closest to my heart. But I like the prequels too! Back as an impressionable teenager who watched the Plinkett (RedLetterMedia) reviews of the prequels, I had actually started to say things like "George Lucas had ruined Star Wars with the prequels". But since then, I formed my own opinion and I enjoy the prequels as a whole (though not the whole of it).

I will be a Star Wars fan despite the good or bad from og trilogy, prequels and the sequel trilogy, my love to Star Wars will remain in my heart no matter what.

I just want to thank Greedo and this awesome community for being so thoughtful, constructive and open-minded. It's like the perfect place to discuss our ideas of Star Wars in a polite and kind way

People are inherently selfish and shallow. A lot of people who say that the sequel trilogy will never be seen as good in the years to come don’t realize that the world doesn’t revolve around them and their own respective community. There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of children who are watching the sequel trilogy films as I type this. Since streaming is as accessible as ever, more and more children and young people are watching these films and making their own opinions about them. They will be seen as nostalgic for the next generation of children, no matter how bad the online noise is, people underestimate childlike wonder and passion, when someone grows up with something, they tend to have a very positive outlook on it, regardless of quality. It will happen, and those who say it won’t are wrong.

I think most people are disappointed at the artistic opportunity to do something good and satisfying. It's just a bit dark having all of our favourite characters thrown through a blender like what happened in the sequels. I really tried to like them, I really did but I just hate from a story telling standpoint that all roads lead to that depressing mess. I know life isn't all sunshine and rainbows but they just completely got rid of Han's character development and Luke was completely out of character which just ruined it for me. Kylo Ren was interesting for about a film and a half but overall just complete wasted opportunity. I'm not crying myself to sleep over it but it's very disappointing, they honestly should have just made the most cookie cutter generic safe bat Trilogy because that would have been 10x better than what we got

As someone who has lost a ton of people in their lives, the legacy characters like Luke, Han and Leia all got satisfying endings in my eyes. Hans death inevitably led to his sons redemption, and Ben Solo was prominent in Palpatines final death. Leia also was a reason for Bens redemption, she also was a spark that held together the Resistance for years. Luke also became a myth, a legend to everyone across the galaxy. I don’t see how those are bad endings? They all got a happy ending at the end of ROTJ, the issue with continuing story’s is that a lot of people just can’t accept that happy endings don’t last forever, just like life it fluctuates and we all have our good and bad days; if you want your happy ending; then ignore the sequels, but to say they are bad or disappointing is kind of dumb in my eyes because they completely service the new characters and their arcs, to create something new, a new happy ending for the new generation of characters.

The disdain for the sequels will all feel like a bad dream in years to come.

I was 9 when Star Wars The Force Awakens was released, and it was one of the defining movies of my childhood (saw it 3 times in theatres). I was 13 when Rise of Skywalker was released, and I saw it with my grandfather, who was there when Star Wars was born. I will always remember the happiness that was on his face when he said that he never thought he'd get to experience a 9th SW film, let alone share his love of the franchise with his grandson. Sure, the Sequel Trilogy may not be the best ever made (I can recognize its flaws) But I don't see them when I rewatch the movies. I see my childhood, and how happy they make me feel. Just the two cents of someone who grew up with these "horrible" movies.

Thank you. It was that way for me when I saw Star Wars when it was released. I am an avid fan of the movies, the music, the books, and artwork. All of it. Did I not like some items? You bet and that is true of all three trilogies. But on balance, I love most of it. The day I took my teenage son and daughter to see The Force Awakens is when it all came full circle. That was a fun movie. That was a day of joy to experience with my kids.

Considering most of my memories of Star Wars is watching the movies with my family, I definitely can say how much nostalgia plays into my liking Star Wars.

One thing that strikes me about the Prequel Trilogy in pop culture is how heavily it's been memed over the past few years or so. The references in memes have to be recognized and appreciated by a lot of people in order to work. The fact that so many Star Wars memes and jokes reference things like "I hate sand" or "I have the high ground!" shows that the Prequel Trilogy movies are known and appreciated by lots of fans who love them enough to poke fun at them.

Agreed, every generation of fans can have that era which they love, though it's an interesting thought that newer generations have more to discover for the first time, and thus, differing points of view that they can offer.

I lost my father this year. He loved all star wars. The good, the bad, the mid. He loved it all. The last birthday gift I ever got to give him was the original unaltered theatrical cuts of the original trilogy. I wanted him to see the films he originally fell in love with as they were. To show him how far star wars had come and remind him of his youth. It's one of the many things we shared a love for. He showed me these movies so long ago, but I still remember how fuzzy and faded the empire strikes back vhs got because of how often I'd watch it with him. I'll hold those memories fondly.

This was great! I can’t wait for the consensus on the sequels to change.

Passed down from generations

Idk why, but when you were talking about what characters your generation pretended to be as kids and then went on about the younger kids pretending to be Anakin and Darth Maul, I started to tear up for a second lol. That was me. I was 5 when TPM came out and 11 when ROTS came out. Now I'm 29 and a father. Me pretending to be Darth Maul as a kid feels like a long time ago right now. Heavy stuff, but I'd never trade what I have now to go back, you know?

I’m a full on Star Wars fan from start to finish and it makes no difference to me on what others say about any of the Trilogy’s as long as there interesting films for me then I will always love them 😊

Man, I love your takes. This pretty well reflects my experience with the fandom. Sounds like we’re fairly close to the same age so that makes sense. I hate dealing with fans as a whole because too many of them just seem to hate anything they didn’t grow up with. But in spite of that, I get to share my love of the sequel trilogy with my oldest niece. Even though we lived in different states, I was able to take her to TFA and TLJ. It’s a shame we couldn’t see ROS in theaters together but her parents didn’t take her to see it either, so she saw it for the first time when I brought the Blu-ray to her house. It’s been very cool watching a whole new generation fall in love with Star Wars like I did.

I love that my dad never hated on my generation of Star Wars. He was an OT guy and didn’t care for the prequels but he loved them vicariously through me. By the time the sequels came, we enjoyed them together. I would have given up on Star Wars if he told me that “all the new stuff sucks”.

Great message, but don't think that some prequel generation fans like me don't still prefer the originals. I was born in 98 and saw episodes II and III in theaters, but I was introduced to the originals first, and when I played Star Wars, I played as Luke. Some older fans mistakenly think that whatever your generation of Star Wars is must be your favorite by default.

When it comes to long-running IP, dealing with change over time is difficult, especially when the original creators die or are no longer directly involved. That's true with everything: Star Wars, Spongebob SquarePants, Dragon Ball, The Simpsons, Curious George, you name it.

I should say as a fan in his 20s whose first Star wars movie was revenge of the sith growing up, seeing the prequels finally get the love they needed was heart warning, i love the first 2 sequels and solo alot, rogue one and TROS just didn't land for me as much. I hope the same thing happens for those movies as a whole. Let the next generation have there star wars just like we did.

Honestly this is it really. I was 13 when the force awakens first came out. It was the first ever Star Wars movie I ever saw on the big screen. And god I had such a blast. The sequels while heavily flawed..I’m always gonna hold them close to my heart for being the Star Wars movies I watched on the big screen. And I’m sure the next set of movies will be the same for the next generation of fans.

It just highlights how nostalgia can distort your film radar. My 10-year old SHOULD love the sequels but she cannot sit through them. She enjoyed TFA but she hated TLJ and never asks to watch TROS. She absolutely loves Return of the Jedi because she loves the characters.

Force Awakens in 2015 had toys fly off the shelves and the movie itself made a boatload of money while the younger generation of kids loved it

No hate toward anyone who loves the sequels, I am happy that you do, but my biggest problem with them is that it felt very money driven more than anything else, like a way to stretch the story out even though it had a conclusion already. The original 6 films that Lucas made felt more driven by his want to tell his story, whether people hated or didn’t, it didn’t really matter to him. On the other hand, the sequels don’t even really have a cohesive story it’s trying to tell. I think it’s better for things to be loved than hated, so I’m not routing for the sequels to be hated forever and for All Time, but they feel like they’re missing that fundamental aspect that the others have.

Don't get too idealistic. Yes, Lucas wanted to tell his stories and make his movies. He also wanted to make vehicles to market the heck out of and make money selling product of all shape and sizes. Lucas in that regard is no different than Disney or any other large corporation.

The OT is objectively the best. My kids have seen all of the Star Wars movies. They never ask to rewatch anything but the OT.

As George Lucas himself once said, it's like poetry, it rhymes. And as someone who appreciates all the movies, I'm happy to see respect for everyone who likes the different eras of Star Wars. Keep making this kinda content please, we desperately need more positivity in the fandom.

This is also why I am unable to see the Thrawn trilogy as episodes 7, 8 & 9, they are just a continuation of Luke, Han & Leia’s story. Every new trilogy should focus on a new generation of young characters, with the previous trilogy protagonists acting as mentors. That’s a big reason why Star Wars has made such a big impression with so many throughout the years, it’s also why it’s important to Keep introducing new timelines, we can’t focus on Luke or Anakin forever. We new heroes for younger kids to relate too. Looking forward to seeing a Sequel renaissance, much like the Prequels before them! I already see more Rey cosplays in the past few years ❤

Haven't seen your videos in years and I'm very glad you're still going strong. I'm not sure it's as much of a generational thing to prefer the prequels or the original trilogy anymore. It certainly used to be but now that enough time has passed and we have so much more new Star Wars content, we are progressivley looking at the 6 first episodes through the same lens. Over time they will be compared more objectively and we will finally all agree that pod racing is freaking dope and Attack of the Clones WAS A CONSPIRACY as it could not possibly have been made by the same man as the one who directed a New Hope!

90s kid here, grown up of the originals and prequels and fan since. While I do agree with you on some facts that Star Wars is a generational thing, I feel that Disney failed that transition with the new one. Several reasons imo for that; first the market saturation, kids nowadays prefer marvels and superheroes, and they were plenty of quality content far more than Star Wars here (ignoring the recent decline in quality since endgame) 2nd: Star Wars felt magical back then because of the myth, the mysteries AND George Lucas, he was the face/owner of the franchise and 80% of the fandom loved him. 3rd: Back then they were no social media, huge franchise like Star Wars weren't common yet and the wait for the next big bit of Star Wars could be long (movies, comics, books, games, EU etc.) so the hype was there! Instead, today we are saturated of content and there is a fatigue on these big franchises. Star Wars back then was an event, today is just your next show on TV when you feel like it. 4th: Disney threw in the bin characters like Luke, Han, Leia and even Obi-Wan, Boba Fett etc. I'm sure some parents that are OG Star Wars fans wanted to share their love for Star Wars with their children, but now they will probably avoid doing that now because of the handling of these characters by Disney. So it's likely these kids won't grow with an attachment to Star Wars and this wasn't the case back then with the prequels, at least not to this level. But I will say that if the legacy characters were handled better and respected better while giving the torch to the new generation properly even with the story flaws it would have been much, much better received. Don't get me wrong: I'm sure many kids today will be the next fans of Rey etc in 20 years from now, but I really don't think they will be as many, the latest numbers about Star Wars shows and toys are telling, there is a lack of interest compare to other franchises. Younger generations are used to have so much now that they lack the same attachment we used to have. They will be newers fans, but not as much as Star Wars used to have. Also, just remember episode 7 release, let's be honest here: it was just a remake of Ep4 overall but everyone I knew was excited to know what's going to happen in ep8/9 because Finn, Kylo etc were very intriguing characters and the universe still interesting. All of this was destroyed with Episode 8 and then 9. Rey is not the best character in the world for sure, but she is fine, I mean many characters in EP1/EP2 were flawed too, the true issue is how they disregarded the legacy characters in each of their movies/shows. Rey is the face of the new trilogy and so took most of the blame/hate like Anakin did for the prequels. IMO Star Wars need to respect better their "legacy" fans and legacy characters, and they also need to do less content but better quality. They need to create hype and excitement with new things. Instead, we have episode X with Rey/Grogu something with the possibility that the film will never be out judging their track record... And they can do great movies, Rogue One was one of the best Star Wars film IMO. Anyway, I think that SW need at least a decade of break and a full new area that needs to be fresh and exciting. It's what the franchise need right now, but it's tough because a long absence in such a state can also make fall your IP into obscurity with the next, next generations, but I think SW can handle it. Personally, I will go in the KOTOR area because it's so good and so rich and not related to all the current areas but if they do, they REALLY need to make it right and judging the KOTOR remake was seemly cancelled well... Well spoken, I agree with everything you said here.

I do believe there is a generational aspect to this subject, primary attributed to progressively increased rigidness, common as ageing occurs. I was eighteen when episode one was released. I grew up with the original trilogy, and greatly enjoyed it. I also was excited for, and enjoyed the prequel trilogy very much. The six films I find satisfyingly consistent, and synergize well. The Disney sequel films however do not seem to fit into the fiction, and I think there is more than generational factors at play. I have not enjoyed the sequel trilogy due to too much lore/fiction inconsistency. Though I have read, and heard enough of how some of the creative persons within Lucas film perceive Star Wars fiction as a "tall tale", though this will of course conflict with people who like myself wish to see it portrayed as a consistent fiction. Overall it seems people making, and viewing Star Wars desire, and value differing things from it. Here is part of a post I made detailing some of the lore breaking inconsistency of the Disney Sequels that disconnects them with episodes I though VI, and also disconnects my interest with the sequels attempt to add fiction: There are so many instances of things happening, and suddenly being possible in Disney's Star Wars fiction which create continuity issues that can't be resolved due to conflicting with George Lucas Star Wars. Before Disney, We always see ships moving away from planets before jumping to hyperspace. In Episode V the reason the rebels use an ion cannon to disable the star destroyers is so they can get past them, and far enough from Hoth to jump to hyperspace. Would it not have been safer to jump directly form within the atmosphere of Hoth, and not go near the Star Destroyers? It was done in both Rouge One on Jedda, and many times in The Rise of Skywalker. Yes, I know about the Clone Wars "Jedi Crash" episode, but at least back then the production teams could admit they made a continuity error. All of the Disney released films so far have violated how hyperspace works. If the "Holdo Maneuver" worked then where are all the Hyperspace torpedos? Certainly that would be a technology worth developing. If the "Holdo Maneuver" worked the why would anyone build large spacecraft, or battle stations? They would only be a liability. It would be a simple matter for any pirate to hold entire worlds hostage. If Hyperspace worked as it has been portrayed in Disney's Episode VII, VIII, IX, Solo, and Rouge One films, then the Star Wars galaxy should be very different from how it is portrayed, not only concerning warfare. If physical objects can be teleported though the force, and force ghosts can interact with these objects, then why not simply have Luke manifest beside threats like Palpatine, with a lightsaber, and deal with them without putting the living in danger? Of course now the force can not only heal mortal wounds rapidly, but can also resurrect the dead. The writers that Disney/Lucasfilm are choosing, and have chosen to write within this fiction have not, for whatever reason keep the continuity consistent with its own fiction, and do not seem to be asking themselves if what they are writing works or is beneficial to the greater fiction. No more hyperspace getaways because ships are now trackable in hyperspace. They where no fun anyway, right?

I will never understand the kind of mindset that focuses on things such as the Holdo Maneuver. I'd much rather think about the characters and the themes. Focusing on technicalities too much is likely a symptom of a materialistic and/or overly literal mindset. These films are myths, and should be treated as such, not hard science fiction.

Star wars will always be my favorite movie franchise no matter what if the new movies or show sucks of course I'm still going to watch them because Star wars is amazing

I must’ve been lucky to experience Star Wars for the first time just as the prequels began. I saw the original trilogy and enjoyed them Even more knowing that new stories were coming A new trilogy was beginning for me to engage and grow up with. That balance I felt Probably helped with my experience of the sequel trilogy beginning. I already had that feeling The want To have more stories And I’ve been getting that. Balance is the way of the force. 💫

I worked with kids when the sequels started to come out and I'm pretty darn sure HG is right. These little five year olds were pretending to be Kylo Ren and excitedly talking about scenes from TFA and TLJ (TRoS hadn't come out yet) and having a grand time, just like my friends and I reenacted the Maul/Qui-Gon/Obi-wan fight on the playground at recess. Plus with the fantastic content at Galaxy's Edge like Rise of the Resistance, I'm sure it'll be fondly remembered in the future. I don't begrudge anyone for not liking the sequels (unless they're jerks about it), but I had fun with them, even if I have my quibbles with 'em.

I've noticed that there is a lot of delayed appreciation for Star Wars Rebels these days, when at the time I remember people bashing it and comparing it unfavorably to Clone Wars. Even though I have my criticisms of the sequels, I think they were good movies that I felt were very much in line with the philosophy of Star Wars. And as such, Kids in 2015 or 2019 definitely loved those so when they grow they will also love them then. So far I've enjoyed most of what was released and published under the Star Wars name. Lucas' six episodes will always have a special place within the grand scheme of things but I think it's a testament that we've consistently received that quality of storytelling over 46 years across so many different media.... well, in a final analysis.

So, being a child of the 90s, I can say that I liked the Original Trilogy because my parents like the original Trilogy. I liked the prequels because they were “my” Star Wars. KotOR 1 & 2 drove me further into the SW Universe, and then I took a break from it until recently. I went and watched the sequels and thought, “These are pretty good!” Then I started to read more of the online talk around them and saw that it was mostly negative. I will admit that the online negativity is definitely warranted, but most people are not film majors, and generally enjoyed the movies.

My uncle is a first generation Star Wars fan, i'm the second, when he grew up he had the movies and toys, when I grew up I had the movies toys and video games. I guess some things differ from a generational point.

I'm a millenial but I relate more to older Star Wars fans because I've always prefered the Original Trilogy to the Prequel Trilogy.

I was 19/20 when ep1 came out. I was a fan of the originals, and loved every prequel when they came out. I had high hopes for the sequels. I enjoyed TFA at face value. But it felt like there was nothing really that it offered outside of that. I liked TLJ, but it had its issues with some of the story. TROS is honestly just bad. Pacing, plot, were both messy. It was packed with too many MacGuffins, missed opportunities. It had the opposite issues to what George did with the prequels. People complained that they strayed too far into the complex, but the sequels did the opposite: they are thin, lack a cohesive story, and don't treat the legacy with care.

It’s a funny one. I am of the original gen (well I saw Empire at the cinema but I think it might have been re release) I grew up with originals, I’m a han shot first guy, and while I didn’t hate Phantom Meance - I remember enjoying it, I didn’t like Cilbes and by the time I got to Sith I’d lost interest in the whole thing - basically seeing it out of habit. However, when my wife watched the whole saga before the release of The Force Awakens, she actually rated both Revenge of Sith and Jedi as better than the original which she said was a bit boring. Empire was her favourite, but I thought that was very interesting … perception is so subjective.

Yep. Kids who grew up on the sequels are going to change the narrative, as prequel kids did once they start coming online in droves. It's weird that the haters take up the position of "trust me bro nobody is ever going to change the narrative on the sequels". Those of us who are old enough have heard that before, and it didn't work the first time, despite all the "trust me bros" that were issued at the time. "Trust me bro, the sequel hate will stick. Now you have the OT and PT fans ensuring that the narrative won't change". Ooooookay, sure thing. What we're going to see is one of the biggest "mass denials" in history. All kinds of people who made it their life's work to tear apart the sequels are going to deny ever taking up that position in the first place. I will, however, make some elbow room for the argument that the pop culture landscape was totally different at the time the sequels came around. When the OT landed, it was the only game in town. When the prequels came, it was still the only legit contender until Harry Potter came along. But come 2015, Harry Potter was a behemoth. Marvel was firmly established. DC was off the ground (with mixed results). Tons of other successful, albeit smaller universes were in the zeitgeist. Sure Star Wars in 2015 may still have been considered the granddaddy of blockbuster cinema, but it undoubtedly had FAR more competition than either the OT or PT, and so it wouldn't surprise me if the wave of ST love isn't as big as that of the PT. But it won't be due to massive hate. It will be due to people having way more choice.

The hate for the sequels will die down in some years but with the sheer volume of media coming out I dont think its going to be at the same level as the prequels Yeah a lot of people will be like "They weren't as bad as we thought they were" but when the only solid movie that most people agree on was the first sequel movie and the last sequel movie and mostly agreed upon was bad and So much wasted potential with characters The only characters with legacies are Rey and Finn and Kylo Ren Snoke died too early Captain Phasma was wasted Many legacy characters came back from the original trilogy The prequels had a new appreciation with the clone wars series and other prequel set media Yeah the prequels had legacy characters but younger and the clone wars added more characters So unless theres a banger of a show that has rey and the sequel crew then im doubtful The Last Jedi might be considered a masterpiece in 15 years but i have my doubts but honestly i hope Kelly Tran and Daisy Ridley get a chance in a show or new movie in the future They didnt deserve the level of hate they did I hated the last 2 sequel movied but no one deserves to be treated like that

Not so sure. I grew up with the OT, and watched them all in theater. But I have always loved the prequels just as much. A good movie is a good movie, regardless of whatever nostalgic feelings one may or may not have.

As a boy and up through my 20s I had a lot of fun with those films. But understanding both Lucas and his intent with those films, I've lost a lot of love for them. I think if you're really scared about a future dictator, then maybe making films isn't you're thing. I shrug my shoulders at movies now, am flattered to have had job offers at ILM, but I see them as law enforcement tools now. Oh well.

It is interesting that it is generational but I feel that not everyone from a certain generation prefers that version of Star Wars. I was born in 03 and while the prequels were airing, I never cared for them. They didn’t feel like Star Wars to me. The original trilogy has always been my go to despite not being around for those movies theatrical release. The Lego game I played wasn’t the complete saga but Star Wars 2 on the ps2. I feel that which ever Star Wars you grew up with, usually is your preference so that’s why I don’t like the prequels or sequels(besides maybe TFA) but I love the originals.

It’s a generational thing for certain. For older fans, the complainers have the loudest voices and get the most attention. But they don’t speak for everyone. The reality is this, except for the Solo movie, every live action Star Wars film and TV series has been a hit. With animation Dave Filoni’s series have also done well. There is a big audience for every kind of Star Wars. Even with the parts I don’t like or that I’m meh about. The numbers don’t lie.

I agree that people will have different opinions, and generally I think it's good when other people stop judging anyone for what they like (though I think everyone could use a little healthy distance between loving something and identifying with it so thoroughly that they can't accept how others approach it). I am curious about good faith film critique about all of these movies. There's plenty of bad faith critique, but I hope we can all understand and enjoy the imperfections for what they are. The original trilogy wasn't perfect, and neither were the prequels or sequels, and hopefully we can just accept that and enjoy them for what they are instead of holding any of them up on too high a pedestal.

I genuinely don’t think the sequels are gonna have the experience the prequels have had. I keep seeing younger people that were exposed to the sequels first eventually see the other six and say, “Why were those way better?” The prequels remain very interesting concepts with cool lore and shoddy execution. The sequels don’t have an identity of their own and they have shoddy execution. It’s not going to happen the same exact way it did before. Not with the sequels. Maybe some of the other stuff like Mandalorian will last and I am already seeing evidence of that.

Well written. I'm a prequel fan at heart. I grew up on them. I love the OT but that wasn't my star wars. I recognize the sequels also aren't my star wars but I'll never have disdain for anyone who loves them. Who gives a fuck what someone else thinks, as long as you enjoy it

The problem with Star Wars has always been the financial aspect affecting the art. Even some people didn't like episode 6 because it seemed they were sacrificing some of the story to promote characters to sell as toys (Ewoks, and this is not my opinion). The prequels were affected a bit the same way but overall I feel George Lucas made the amazing story he planned for a long time. But the sequels, from fear of bad sales, took waaayy too much fan feedback and pandered way too much as well and it affected the integrity of the art. TLJ was flawed but actually had some good ideas that would have resolved nicely in episode 9 but instead they listened to the fans and tried to undo their "mistake" (fans' opinion) and made up a clearly flawed story as a result. At least with the prequels, George Lucas stuck to his vision despite fan backlash and it paid off. Many fans who didn't like 1 and 2 ended up loving 3 and seeing how the story came together. It's all about artistic integrity and I feel that star wars fans are the biggest to blame for it. Just let these people do what they do best and trust their expertise. When everyone is a critic, no one gets what they like and the product is garbage.

My argument against yours in the video is that the sequels (for a large part) weren't made for the next generation, they were made to please old fans (for profit), and it affected the art. Now the next generation might not like it as much because the quality was clearly compromised, not to please them, but old farts. And I agree that above all, it's just whether they enjoy it or not, but it would have been nice if they made something even better that kids could enjoy even more into the future, something that even though it doesn't click with old fans, it will click with them.

I was born in 1999, when the Phantom Menace came out. So, by the time I first started watching Star Wars, all 6 of the movies were already on DVD, so I technically grew up with all of them at once. I believe my parents first showed me A New Hope, at least I think that was my first Star Wars movie. I was way too young to see the Prequel Trilogy in theaters, so I got a different experience growing up. I watched the Original Trilogy, and then I watched the Prequels after. And at the time, I thought the movies looked so cool, and to this day I still think that at least some of the landscapes and visuals are pretty good. But even as a child, something felt off, and this may be due to me watching the Originals first. Even as a kid I didn't like Jar Jar at all, I thought he was too annoying, and even today I don't care that much for him. The acting felt off and the pacing of the movies felt off. It was weird. Fast forward to 2015, when The Force Awakens came out. I was 16 years old at the time and The Force Awakens was the first Star Wars movie I remember seeing in theaters (for the record, I was 5 when ROTS came out in 2005, but I can't really remember if I saw it in theaters or not, as I was really young.). Well, actually let's go back to 2014 when the first trailer dropped. I had just turned 15 at the time, and holy shit that trailer was so fucking intense and awesome. The visuals, everyone made the joke when Finn popped up on camera for the first time, the camera shots, everything about the trailer was so cool. I was super excited for the movie. Then I watched it, and I loved it so much that me and my mom went to see it a second time, which I never really did with theatrical films before.

I'm sorry about this diatribe but I gotta say it man, I just feel so lost in this community because for some reason, it's so difficult to find people who share my taste in the new stuff, or Hell, even if I want to be in a community about parts of Star Wars I'm more passionate about like the original trilogy or other universally beloved media like KotoR, the Kyle Katarn games, or the Tartokovsky clone wars, sequel discussion is ALWAYS front in center. Personally, I really like them, but they're not my favorite part of star wars or anything, and i'm pretty rational about them, but for some reason, that seems to be so rare of a perspective and every corner of Star Wars is either: A. You don't like them but you're rational and civil about it B. You don't like them and are adamant about it ruining Star Wars, and if you like them then you're a fake fan or shill C. You don't care about them D. You do like them, however you also are so radicalized you unironically think people who don't like the new stuff are unironically bad people E. You like them, but you like EVERY piece of Star Wars, and if you don't too, then you're not welcome here because we value ZERO confrontation and dissent. Obviously not all of these are bad, A and C are important and I wouldn't have the fanbase without them, but at the same time I don't fit into any of these and I don't feel like there's any part of the fanbase I can reside in. Obviously different opinions are important and echo chambers are bad, but it'd still be nice to find people that I actually can agree with that aren't either extreme or crazy for once (emphasize on for once). For example, the smash fandom is one that I vehemently dislike for several reasons despite loving the games, but I can always find a local of chill people to play the game with and enjoy, I can't get that feeling ever and feel so isolated.

I only ever find Major hate for the new era of media online or around fans that are older. Everyone else I run into enjoys everything. Most movies and majority of the media that has been released. Just like the Prequels, the Disney media will have its day.

I'm of the age where I have lots of nephews and neices and my friends have kids all of the prime Star Wars age and I don't know a single one that was into the Sequels. Lots that were into the MCU. Quite a few into the Mandalorian. But the Sequels? No. I'm sorry but I don't think it's the same as the Prequels where every kid I knew was obsessed with it.

Lucasfilm has never been good at balancing all three eras. When the prequels were being made, the original trilogy took a backseat. Then after Disney bought Lucasfilm, the prequel trilogy was largely ignored. Now since the Rise of Skywalker, the sequel trilogy has been largely dormant. I hope one day they'll be able to add stories in all three eras (to say nothing of stories outside the Skywalker Saga as well) at the same time

I think we can all agree, whether we’re prequel or og trio fans, attack of the clones was just god awful lmao. There’s only a few scenes i actually like from that movie, all are action scenes with no dialogue lol.
