The main reason Vader never plotted to overthrow the emperor was because he had no one he wanted to rule with. He wanted to with Padme but she refused and died, he hated Obi-Wan, he considered Ahsoka part of his past and wanted it destroyed, and the Inquisitors were just expendable pawns. It was only when he discovered his son, Luke, that he had the idea of overthrowing Palpatine and ruling with his son.

I agree with you. Vaders suit was a weakness. But he was absolutely smart enough to build a new one that in theory could be undamaged by force lightning & then easily take over from the emperor. He’d just be bored doing emperor stuff instead of the stuff he was doing that he was more interested in

There's also an obscure theory that Vader's potential actually increased after Mustafar because his combined suffering AND injuries now allowed him to draw from a virtually bottomless pit of the dark side. The believe is Vader as we know him could've completely washed Palpie if he was focused on/dedicated his life to killing him because he would be more strongly attuned to the dark side, and he had plenty of reasons to do so on top of that. The thought here is that one who can draw so much from the dark side could do so because of their suffering in life, and Vader, even as a kid, suffered more than most if not every of the Sith Lords from the past millennia, allowing him to overcome any supposed limitation or attack on his body if he was completely and utterly tuned to the dark side and drew from everything he suffered, along with his cropped up hate for Palpie who he - at some point in time - realized had been responsible for ruining his life. I really like that theory.

There is truth in this. I believe Vaders potential was nowhere near Anakins, but still, he had enough power to equal several of the greatest dark lords of the Sith, like Bane or Malgus, and the fact that his suffering was so great, allowed him to truly become a power to be reckoned with. But still, I don’t think that Vader would have been able to defeat Sidious. Vader would have been just a step below Sidious, and so he needed an apprentice to defeat his master. That is why Vader wanted Luke to begin with, because a well trained dark side Luke and Vader would have been able to overthrow Palpatine, but never Vader alone.

  • @laaaryify

@@EwingAmaterasu I do think that, if Vader had truly wanted and given himself to the darkside he would be able to overthrow the emperor. People disconsider the gains Vader had after Mustafar, lik suffering, pain and anger, no to mention how he became more strategic and patient after getting the suit. He also had chances to update the suit later, even Palpatine gave him that chance, but HE didn't want it. If he had changed his suit and focused on overthrowing the emperor he could have done that. People forget that his raw potential was as least twice that of the emperor(before Mustafar), so even though his powers would have been cut off in half, in theory he still had kind of the same raw power in the force as Palpatine after Mustafar, only limited by his psyche and suit. If he had the knowledge, appropriate training and craved power enough he would eventuallt surpass the emperor, that's what makes sense. And loosing body parts is considerable but not unsurpassable, what he lost in terms of body energy was compensated in theory by the gains in will, rage and willpower(main focus of motivation and power for sith lords).

Vader by the time of Return of the Jedi, had ALREADY become more powerful than the Emperor. In fact, Vader whilst being electrocuted to death by the Emperor, Vader still out powered him in the force and in will. Vader used the force to keep himself alive while having his life support short circuited and disabled by palpatine. Even then Palpatine could not stop Vader, and Vader killed him. Vaders skull lit up like christmas tree and was seen through his massive armour while palpatine electructed him. Palpatine was going 100% with the electricity when Vader grapped him, to the contrary Palpatine was going only 40% or so with Luke to torture him slowly and even that Luke could not withstand. Vader to the contrary, like a Boss completely outpowered Palpatine in everway, convincingly defeating him.

The psychological state surely affects one affinity with the force. In the Bane book series, Bane goes through a rough laps of time while he doubt himself and his abilities. He goes from one of the most fearsome force wielder to a nobody, unable to wield any power he once mastered. He had to learn how to defeat these mind obstacles in order to return to his prime and eradicate most of the Sith and Jedi orders.

Easily in time I would say, he would first try to figure out how to get more powerful cause the only thing that stopped him was his suit which left him super susceptible to Force Lightning, which Palpie was more powerful in than any Sith. But with some effort and experience, Vader could've overcome that technique, no question, and given he'd have inherent hatred of Palpie having manipulated him his whole life and unintentionally led him to be this physically handicapped, Palpie wouldn't be a match for Vader's pure hatred, plus if Lucas said Mace beat Palpie, what would a completely flipped out hell-bent on murdering Palpie Vader do, he wouldn't stand a chance.

Vader never really intended to become who he was, He just wanted to save Padme the very person that kept him sane throughout his early life as a Jedi. Although, Obi-wan knew the relationship Anakin had with Padme, He never brought it up and do you think Anakin can trust Obi-wan enough to tell him the truth when he is so grounded with the Jedi rules and dogma? A dogma that the Jedi counsel themselves don't even follow anymore near the end of the clone wars? Anakin didn't have anyone to go to, which is why Anakin's fall was so tragic, Because he was all alone and he returned to the shackles of slavery that he just came out of.

100% agree. Another thing that destroyed Anakin was that he was never properly trained on the fact that having premonitions can be caused by your own choices. He should have been taught that if you have a premonition of the future and try to stop it from happening, you trying to stop it from happening can actually be what causes that future. He should have also been better warned about why exactly the dark side is so dangerous. He should have been warned that once you join the sith, not only will your master lie to you but that your life will only be suffering, misery and pain. He should have been trained that once you join the dark side you will no longer be yourself and that you will hurt the ones you love without a second thought, even the ones you love the most. Because the jedi dogma didn't allow anyone besides masters to actually study the history of the sith and many masters did not teach their pupils anything about the sith, they did not show their apprentices exactly why the sith is only a path to suffering, loss and losing everything they care about. By acting as though the sith don't exist and all aspects of the dark side should not be studied, it didn't properly train young Jedi in exactly why the dark side is so dangerous and how the life of a sith never allows love to exist within it because the ultimate trap of the dark side and the sith is that once you become a sith lord snd delve into the dark side, you will become consumed by your own selfishness. You don't care anymore about anyone but yourself once you choose that path. I think if Anakin had been taught more about the nature of the dark side and the sith as well as the nature of premonitions, I think Anakin would have been much less likely to turn to the dark side or believe the sith.

I think considering that the Sith rule of 2 took 1000 years of planning to rule the Galaxy and Palpatine fucked it all up in 26 years because he didnt know what to do with his apprentices shows that hes actually a fucking terrible sith lord due to his extreme narcissism he failed to realize that the rule of two worked because the master accepted his fate of being usurped. The sheer fact that he wanted to change apprentices 3 times shows that hes a shit master especially considering he had Vader for 23 years and basically did not allow him to grow as a Sith lord because he felt he could do better. Palpatine failed the Sith because he thought the dark side should serve him and not the other way around. Not to mention he killed his master before he was ready.

I've long thought this to be the case. Vader only turned to the dark side in order to save Padme, it was never his goal to become the most powerful Sith Lord ever. Moreover, he couldn't fully commit himself to the dark side because of the remnants of the light side that were still in him, which Palpatine could sense, and therefore Palpatine deemed Vader unworthy. No doubt, Vader was psychologically broken, but his ultimate weakness was his inability to let go of emotional attachments (Shmi, Padme, Obi-Wan, and Luke). His attachment to Shmi led him to his first taste of the dark side, his attachment to Padme drove him to the dark side, his attachment to Obi-Wan hindered his growth in the dark side, and his attachment to Luke led him back to the light.

I think that the question "Did Vader lost his potential" can be answered in a definite "yes and no" answer. Vader definitively lost physical access to his potential at Mustafar, not his potential per se, but that doesn't mean, unlike what he and apparently Sidious himself believed, it couldn't be recovered from. Vader had lost the will to regain his potential due phsychological issues, if Vader had solved those issues, it would not had meant Vader would now suddenly regain access to his potential or be stronger than Sidious, but it would be the beginning of the journey. I think there are 2 ways Vader could had approached this: 1) The non physical way: Basically as Yoda said "luminous beings are we". Vader could had deepened his connection to the force to the point his injuries in Mustafar no longer hindered his potential, make his power in the force less dependant on his body. An example of this is Palpatine, who managed to retain his power and in fact grow it in Exegol despite being more crippled than Vader. Palpatine gave Vader such a lesson when he destroyed him at Mustafar and taught him the emotions a Sith must go through to further his connection to the darkside, had Vader mastered this connection there would be a point where his suit would no longer impede him. Vader experienced in the new comics some version of this, when his soul got separated from his body and managed to defeat the entire Jedi Council and Palpatine easily. Or Momin, who could use the force despite having zero midichlorians and being a mask. 2) The physical way: Vader could had simply had healed his body. Like Darth Sion, who despite having a body that should had been ashes, was kept together by his sheer pain and anger, with such levels of anger Vader could had likely restored his body to an uninjured version, there is a book where he actually is healing his lungs, but the ecstasy of doing so made the healing stop and he had to rely back on the respiration. In the new comics Lord Momin manages to resurrect his destroyed young body using technology that was in Vader's castle, had Vader cared enough, rather than destroy it, Vader could had achieved the same and get his uninjured body back. He likely could also had experimented with cloning some of his limbs in combination with the darkside, maybe some Kaminoan experimental treatment on regeneration amped with the darkside, he certainly had the resources to do that. Of force drain enough people or use force nexuses to heal his body. He could had looked for items such as the Crystals of Fire and the Kaiburr Crystal to regenerate his body or the Staff of Xoxaan. In canon Vader got hold of such an object, the Aeon Engine, it could almost revive the dead, it would surely be capable of restoring Vader's body to health had he used it for that instead of trying to revive Padme, if it doesnt get destroyed before. So yes, Vader lost access to his potential, though not his potential per se. He had psychological issues that kept him in the state he was, had he solved them he wouldn't had regained his power, but he would be able to embark on the path of doing so.

    2 жыл бұрын

@@eho6380 My point still stands, Vader could had regained his connection by undoing his injuries, but he lacked the drive and this is where his mental blocks come in. There is also enough precedent in both legends and canon of force users being unimpeded with their injuries, but it requires a deeper connection to the force and less dependancy on the body. After all Vader's midichlorian count per cell remains the same, he just had less cells. Vader would need to be able to have his remaining midichlorians channel the same amount of force power than his complete body does, which should be doable with a stronger connection given his concentration per cell remains equal.

The absolute count may have come down a bit (he only lost parts of his legs and arms) but the absolute count of midichlorians doesnt seem to matter. Master yoda for example is quite small, yet his concentration of midichlorians is what makes him so powerful. Anakins Potential barely went down, but he now had to overcome great obstacles to arrive at the peak, which he didnt care for. The only reason he wanted to become so strong was to protect the people he loved, which are all gone now.

One thing I'm curious about is if sidious was afraid of being overthrown by Vader and afraid of death. What would he have done if he had succeeded in gaining Luke as his apprentice considering Luke's midi clorian count was higher than sidious's as well.

I agree that your mental state affect your force potential, but I think that is only half of the picture. The other half deals with the affect of the living tissue for which the force can flow through. Given this, Vader's/Anakin force potential was weakness due to him losing his arms and legs. Something to do with the living force. Great Video.

There's one thing I'm going to point out that people have either forgotten or don't know and legends material if a person was trained by the Jedi for a long period of time ancient floors would never consider making a Jedi a sirh Lord. This is due to because of the simple fact even in Darth Vader because his true personality is a Jedi there are pieces of light insidious knew what he was doing he was full aware of this ancient teaching and wow he was hoping to get his super apprentice Darth sidious has a teaching to never let the students surpass the master. Which is why he would be hated in the Bane lineage the very lineage that he is a part of. I'm going to try to play out some examples of Jedi who were converted over to the dark side but yet it doesn't go well. The two examples I'm going to say are Darth revan and Exar Kun. Does Robin there was an ancient technique used on him to make him convert to the sith however due to his background once again combined with the right people he does return to the Jedi. As for Exar Kun she puts his spirit in a dark I should say a sith holocron and I guess it was to try to achieve immortality but in the same time based upon the ancient doctrine of the sith that there will be traces of light remained in a sith Lord who was once a Jedi. Photos of my personal opinion that Exar Kun was trying to remove those traces of light from his spirit! Finally there's something I want to point out George w Lucas said that Darth Vader's meaning of Darth Vader's name is to invade which means had Anakin fully embraced his dark side and understood who he was he would understood that he was never truly meant to be a sith Lord but sigh with them temporarily and when the time is right he will deliver the final strike!!!! Once again Anakin Skywalker is my favorite character I do feel Canon should be redone or we should see a storyline and it can as a force ghost where he receives we see what happens if he had been trained by Qui-Gon Jinn and then Obi-Wan when he's older

Well, Vader for Palpatine was basically a win win pitential situation. Either Vader would try to kill him and fail, or Sidious would first find a new apprentice to replace Vader with, in either case Sidious would remain the master of the Sith and Emperor of the Galaxy, or Vader would ultimately tap into his full potential and then there would be nothing that Sidious could do to stop him. Vader would just kill him and take over, which for Sidious would still be a success

I know i am going to trigger some people, but when Anakin was tested for his midichlorian count it was based of one drop of blood. That one drop was more than Yoda. That amount does not change, even if you lose limbs. The midichlorian count would still be the same..."size matters not." Yoda. So...Vader could still be more powerful than either of us! This makes way more since to me that it was his mental state that hindered him. Just like Obi-Wan when he saw luke and leia and had clarity and was able to lift the rocks, he was NEVER that strong with the force, but all of the sudden he was stronger with the force than before, because of his mental status.

In same ways Palpatine did to his own Master so long ago.. while same time remembering he has talents that was always there an well before he ever even knew what a Sith or Jedi was... All he had to do was fall back on that. While feinging still being weak an feeble. Or perhaps learning to LOOK even weaker then he TRULY an was becoming... Though doing that woulda looked offly suspicious if he got caught trying to appear weaker when it was clear he was a hell of a lot stronger then said attempt... Imagine what Sideous's response woulda been in such a scenario

Anakins potential is still almost exactly the same. His midichlorian blood concentration never went down. And the absolute count for midichlorians never seemed to matter e.g. master yoda who is quite small, but the high concentration of midichlorians made him so strong not necessarily the absolute count of them. So lets say anakin had 30.000 midichlorians per ml blood. After mustafar it would still be exactly the same. He never tapped into his full potential after his injuries because he was used to his powers naturally and effortlessly increasing. Now he had to overcome his injuries. The only reason Anakin wanted to be so powerful was to protect the ones he loved. But they are all gone now, so whats the point

Just thought of a really cool star wars story. After Anakin's loss on Mustafar and against Vader's knowledge, Palatine creates children that are the off spring of himself and also some that are the offspring of Vader. None of Palpatine's children are force sensitive and only one of Vader's inherent his force sensitivity. But the kid only has maybe half of what Anakin had. After Palpatine's death, the kid escapes and becomes a neutral force user and goes into the galaxy and eventually meets Luke. They have a close friendship but never find out they are siblings. The sibling outright refuses to become a Jedi but vowes to never stand in Luke's way as he rebuilds the order. Them at some point he sacrifices himself to save Luke's Jedi temple and children from being found by a remaining faction of the empire

I think Palps wanted to turn Anakin because if Palps can turn the so called chosen one to the dark side it would be the greatest of insults to the Jedi Order. Palps viewed every person as a pawn on the chess board and he treated Anakin/Vader as one such pawn. I dont believe he ever wanted Vader to rule. He did not just destroy the Jedi Order he humiliated it by manipulating the pawn Anakin Skywalker

Pre-suit Vader did NOT “have the potential to surpass him” , he was ALREADY stronger than Sidious. George Lucas clearly stated Vader was roughly 20% stronger than Sidious before his injuries on Mustafar.. Sidious himself directly even admits to Vader after taking down the Jedi Temple that he had surpassed him. “Do you feel your power growing?” “Yes, my master.” “You have done well, Lord Vader. You are more skilled than any Sith before you”…. That’s including HIMSELF.. That’s a direct quote from both the film’s novelization & comic adaption.. You just don’t see their full conversation on-screen because you just see a small part of it in a hologram from Kenobi’s point of view right before he says “I can’t watch anymore.” When Sidious tells Yoda “You will not stop me, Lord Vader will become more powerful than EITHER of us.” He is literally telling him that he would become stronger than BOTH of them together.. He had the potential to become TWICE the strength of Sidious.. Sidious is slightly stronger than Yoda; twice the strength of Sidious literally means stronger than both of them together…. Lucas directly stated that Vader lost roughly 40% of his power levels on Mustafar, and yet was still roughly 80% the strength of Sidious. Meaning he was already roughly 20% stronger than him before his injuries…. Like he said it flat out, he lost 40% of his power level. Meaning yes, it WAS due to the injuries that he sustained. Maybe he could’ve regained some of that power back if he got “pissed off enough” but regardless, the reason Sidious was now 20% stronger than him instead of vice versa WAS because of his injuries. Like the man that literally WROTE it said it himself it isn’t debatable. Do not say “Star Wars confirms” from some irrelevant fan theory. No, they did not “confirm” anything at all. Lucas confirmed this theory to be false. That’s the only thing that’s been “confirmed”…
