    I just want to imagine the sound of a toilet flushing from the slide show showing doctor McCoy walking into the main cabin from the aft head compartment.

    Ray Andersen's diorama book goes into detail about how to make figures over into a slightly larger scale... If Historex is no longer out there, Preiser Adam and Eve figures should do...

    She looks great, Boyd! You'll do the original proud. That trip to see the prop was great fun. We'll have to plan something like that again someday.

    That's actually a access door hatch that is painted red. the impulse engine is the white screen area above it.... I think the red panel is suppose to be access to the rear landing strut retracting gear. as it sits right above it. or since it is painted red, it could also be a fuel access port. remember Scotty mentions in that episode there is a fuel line which gives way and they lose all the fuel. ( which how they refuel from the phasers still confuses me, as phasers don't use fuel) but behind that wall seen in shots where the rear hatch in the cabin is open. you see three cylinders which could be fuel tanks. and they would be right behind that red hatch on the rear wall. so that could be a fueling hatch and is why it's painted red .

    Yes it did take a little time to figure out how to route the wiring but it's typical on these resin garage kits. I'm just glad that it exists! It's just the right size too. Should be pretty cool when it's finished.

    Thanks Lee, I wanted to use some corrugated clear plastic but I could only find huge sheets of it which would be way more than I needed. The sheet styrene worked well to diffuse the LED strips which are really close to it.

    Great work as usual Boyd, can't wait to see it finished. No need to cut the Nacalls in the future, you can get drill bits up to three feet long.

    The red panel on the rear is absolutely an access panel. Good detail here: memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Class_F_shuttlecraft?file=Class_F_shuttlecraft_aft_instrument_access_panel.jpg

    Awesome! That's a lot work to get that lit. Are you sure the paint scheme is a green and not the studio lighting and film processing?

  • @TrekWorks

    @TrekWorks

    I'm pretty sure it's green based on all the different angles that it appears the same. All I can go by is what I'm seeing on the screen. They did use some pretty strong colors for the lighting on the set though. That same exact color of green is on the walls of Dr. McCoy's lab on the Enterprise.

    hey boyd its looking good so far , you could use the same brass rod you are using for the feet of the necells to join the necell halves back together so they are straight and it will give them strength so they don't crack, what do you think?

    You know, This is one of the designs from TOS that I just don't like that much. I mean this is a nice Randy Cooper kit but the design was never one of my favorites. Matt Jefferies didn't care for it, either, and I think that's partly because A) he didn't design this -- another guy did; and B) he had a much more aerodynamic vehicle in mind for the Shuttlecraft that would have made more sense from an energy-conservation and aerodynamics (lift/drag) scheme. The used shuttle design you know had to have serious power and maybe some anti-gravity devices to make it work! It was just a very boxy design. Not very aerodynamic. I've NEVER seen this particular shuttle design with lit nacelles or a swirling/bussard cap. It'll be interesting to see what extra life those effects bring to the kit. As far as I've always read, this was a sublight vehicle. (I know, I know -- artistic license! If anything, the lighting will make the model more interesting and give it more life. That's a major plus for this design.) It was strictly made for ship-to-ship transfer of personnel or ship-to-planet transport if the transporter was done or for whatever diplomatic reasons the transporter wasn't feasible.
