Fun fact. This book was published the same month Star Trek Generations was released. There’s no way a book and a movie with Kirk and Picard on the cover coming out at the same time was a coincidence. They threw around a lot of ideas on how to get the TOS and TNG crews together into one movie. It does make you wonder if Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens had any insight into the writing of Generations, and that maybe this book was one of the many rejected ideas to get the two crews together into the same movie. This novel is a far better story than Generations, and despite the fact that it contradicts the events of First Contact its still a great story and one of the best Start Trek novels out there.

It had its flaws (Scott/Chekov instead of Spock/McCoy, poor death for Kirk, etc), but Generations was decent. And if this story had been the first TNG movie, we wouldn’t have had First Contact - one of the BEST!

I wish they would read the entire book.It takes away from it when they leave parts of it out. Also, there are many they don't have that are worthy,Uhura's Song,The Wounded Sky,My Enemy/My Ally,Prime Directive, just to name a few.If you're going to do these books, aren't they worth doing right and well?

Ma'am,the book is several hours long.If those missing parts were not an important part of the story being told they would not have been in the book.As a true fan, I've been watching since '66,I want every word of that book read, otherwise,it's a betrayal of the artist who wrote it and the fans who read and loved it.If they can't read them in their entirety, they shouldn't read them at all.

bobby day I'm male. And the poker scene or Picard saying good bye to sarek isn't essential to the main story. The ferengi isn't necessary either, or Cochrane thinking about the advances of the technology since he moved to alpha Centauri. Btw, I'm not disagreeing with you, I do prefer the whole text, I'm just saying it makes why they removed so much stuff

Sorry about the female reference.I understand why they left parts out,but it disappoints my sense of storytelling accuracy.I am the proud owner of every single Star Trek novel or paperback that was ever printed.I bought them all and have read them many hundreds of times and still do.Many books, outside of Star Trek leave parts out and I don't like that either,it's probably just me.
