If you wanted to play a handheld Star Trek game in the 1990s, this was definitely the best one.
Konami put out a terrible handheld version of Interplay's "Star Trek: 25th Anniversary" with terrible controls and ridiculously loud audio, which peaks on the music which is just a series of loud beeps.
On GameBoy the "Star Trek: 25th Anniversary" game features annoyingly long and difficult side-scrolling stages which are either a battle against 100 Klingon Battle Cruisers, the entire Tholian fleet and The Tholian Web of energy bands everywhere on the screen and requiring a riduculous amount of phaserpower to break through, a Space Amoeba which is the safest way to go out of all of these since space amoebae have slow-moving antibodies, and an Asteroid Field which is full of massive planetissimals with gravitational pulls that drag The Enterprise into them, and overhead adventure sequences on alien worlds covered with hostile plants and animals.
Also on GameBoy were "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Star Trek: Generations", both, again, by Interplay, featured weird puzzles, including the pipelayer game to get systems to operate and overhead sequences where your character moves very slow and enemies instantly respawn offscreen and pop-in from nowhere, it seems.
This game was straightforward, you pilot The Enterprise and you blast Romulan Warbirds out of the sky while dodging asteroids and then you have a phaser battle against Romulans.
The only issue is that it has the Tiger Electronic D-pad which stabs your thumbs and can be annoying and even painful to use over long periods.
