"The Trouble with Tribbles" is the fifteenth episode of the second season of the American science fiction television series Star Trek. Written by David Gerrold and directed by Joseph Pevney, it was first broadcast on December 29, 1967. In this comic episode, the starship Enterprise visits a space station that soon becomes overwhelmed by rapidly reproducing small furry creatures called "tribbles."
It is claimed the short story "Pigs Is Pigs" by Ellis Parker Butler inspired the episode,[2] but strong similarities to sections of the novel The Rolling Stones led the producers to seek a waiver from author Robert A. Heinlein.
The original episode has had several produced follow-ups. The first, "More Tribbles, More Troubles", was originally pitched for the show's third season but not accepted;[3][4] it was ultimately produced for Star Trek: The Animated Series. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Star Trek in 1996, the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Trials and Tribble-ations" used digital techniques to insert the Deep Space Nine actors into the events of "The Trouble with Tribbles".
The Enterprise is summoned to Deep Space Station K7 by undersecretary Nilz Baris to guard a shipment of quadrotriticale grain. Captain James Kirk is annoyed at Baris's use of a high-priority distress call for a seemingly trivial matter, and complies minimally. The Enterprise crew enjoy shore leave on the station, as does the crew of a Klingon ship under the command of Captain Koloth.
Interstellar trader Cyrano Jones arrives with goods for sale, among them purring balls of fluff called tribbles. He gives one to Lt. Uhura, who brings it onboard the Enterprise. On both the Enterprise and the station, the tribbles begin reproducing rapidly. They make soothing cooing noises and are loved by the Enterprise crew, even the stoic Spock. However, tribbles jump and screech in disgust when around Klingons.
On the station, a drunken Klingon insults the Enterprise, her crew, and her captain. The resulting brawl between humans and Klingons forces Kirk to cancel shore leave. Baris is terrified of possible Klingon interference with the grain project, and suspects Jones of being a Klingon agent.
Doctor Leonard McCoy and Spock are concerned that the increasing number of tribbles threatens to consume all the food aboard the Enterprise. Kirk realizes that the tribbles on the station could be a threat to the grain shipment. He is too late, however; when he opens an overhead storage compartment, he is buried chest-deep in grain-gorged tribbles. Spock and McCoy discover that many of the tribbles in the hold are dead or dying, suggesting the grain has been poisoned.
Infuriated, Baris vows to see Kirk punished for the fiasco, while an equally outraged Koloth demands an apology from Kirk for what he considers disrespectful treatment of his crew. McCoy reveals Darvin to be a Klingon disguised as a human; Darvin confesses to having poisoned the grain.
Jones is ordered to remove the tribbles from the station (a task that Spock estimates will take 17.9 years), or he may face charges for transporting dangerous life-forms. Just before the Klingons depart, all the tribbles aboard the Enterprise are transported onto the Klingon vessel by Chief Engineer Scott, where, in his words, "they'll be no tribble at all."

"I didn't mean to say the Enterprise should hauling garbage. I meant to say that it should be hauled away *as* garbage." Easily one of my favorite episodes. This was a real treat to watch. Thank you.

One time back in the '90s I was hanging out with some friends, smoking some weed, and watching Star Trek. When, all of a sudden, my buddy Larry starts busting out laughing. I ask him what the hell he laughing at so hard at and he points to the screen, where this space station was pictured and proudly exclaimed "IT'S THE BERFDAY SHIP!" That still makes me chuckle all theses years later.
It’s a great model - I had the model back 40+ years ago but unfortunately it was lost in the Great Model Wars of the early 70’s!
Beautiful build of a very nice kit. I am so glad this one has been brought back. Lots of memories. Thanks for sharing.
🎉 Nice, thanks for sharing your time and experience.
I remember building this kit wayyyyy back many years ago Too bad the prices are so high now
Very nice - love that little Enterprise floating there.
I've always been a Treki an I have never thought about building a StarTrak build its just a little bit big for my limited space but it's another great build from Cris 👍👍
This was a joy to watch. I always wondered what this kit looked like when built.❤
Fun kit build. And if you squint, just right, you will see the Tribbles inside. They are EVERYWHERE. The build IS out of this World, but not too spacey. Thanks for sharing. BTW, smile - it keeps the Tribbles at bay.
Wow, I built one of those back in the day! 👍 Edit: your model looks cool with the Enterprise on the wire, and the K7 rotating around on your display turntable.
This is a cool kit. Great build Chris! The Enterprise circling the K7 station is a nice touch. I built this back in the 70s. Back then the kit was issued with gold chrome on the window cones. The rest of the parts were molded in silver-grey styrene.
Looking good 👍
Nice build. it looks really good. The one mistake this old kit always had is the tiny Enterprise is actually out of scale. the kit measures out to 1/1000 scale which the 1/1000 scale Uss Enterprise is actually to scale to this kit. which was shown in the DS9 episode Trial's and Tribbulation's. as that lower section is actually a shuttle bay on the station which Greg Jien actually placed a shuttle craft and jones ship in to show the station is not as huge as this kit made it out to be. What happened was AMT based the tiny Enterprise on how it looked in the Viewports of the Station's sets. what they didn't understand was that yes the studio to save money used the AMT kit of the Enterprise for that. but it was trying to be forced perspective that the Enterprise was farther out orbiting the station. Not that the station was as big as the Space dock in the movies.... So if you wanted to make the model more accurate you could use both the 1/100o Enterprise and Klingon battle cruiser with this kit.
That thing looks cool spinning!
I’ve got most of Round 2’s reissue AMT TOS Star Trek kits, just don’t have the time to build them! My metal tin edition of the K7 came with a toy Trimble inside!
Haha, "No tribble at all"! Hahaha, loved those episodes about the tribbles. Actually, No tribble at all Captain "!
Yeah this is nice, thank you for sharing. This model went on my list right away :)
Freaking awesome!
Very nice work
Nice work. No where in the kit does it give decal placement. Great job mounting the Enterprise 👍
Another great Star Trek kit. Do you have a display space specifically for the Star Trek models and the Star Wars ones because you have quite the collection of both?
What no tribble included in this release?? lol , great build.

They're nothing but trouble! 😜
Just for your reference good sir. the closest model of the Enterprise that is made to this scale would be the 1/1000 scale, and its still just a tad small, but would look way better than the tiny pete that they put in that kit.
Jefferson starship?😳 Champagne supernova?🤔 Jman
Compared to Star Wars screen models, I always thought Star Trek stuff looked cheesy, this model included (and I include all the modern day stuff too) I'm NOT hating on the show at all. The detail looks out of scale for what it is - specifically the ribs on the frisbee parts. Doesn't take away from the job Chris did though! Thanks for the video.
I know this has been ask before but what kind of liquid glue do you use?
Awesome build! My starship made a brief stop at K-7 yesterday... playing Star Trek Online...!
Next time invite Linus to come on screen--- wasn't he the one playing the Piano 😲(?) Wish you did more stuff than just cars more often, but I still watch 'em all! Keep on weldin the plastic!
2 things that I don't like abut this model. 1. It is supposed to be, and or is advertised as 1/6400 scale. It is not. It is more into about 1/840. The Enterprise model that comes with it is probably 1/6400 scale, and it looks like sh-t. It would not be much larger than a type F shuttlecraft, and they didn't do a good job making the proportions more accurate, even at its size. 2 in reference to studio photo's and blue screen footage of the filming model the disk area's were more spherical. They simply got lazy and flattened out the tops and bottoms of them or it was done by AMT on purpose. IDK but it is damn close but still incorrect with the geometry. I am modeling this in Blender 2 3D print at 1/200 scale in a future project. I might make a 1/650 scale to show the original box model beside it for comparison.
