I dont remember this episode, but I think it's funny that someone who is presumably a guest aboard the ship asks for the Captain and is told, "yeah, he's in a meeting with his top officers in the state room right now. Go ahead and walk on in."

I think they were trying to go for the same kind of relationship from TOS where Spock and McCoy would tease Kirk for something like this. At first they tried to mimic TOS by making Troi and Crusher (and Wesley by extension) able to talk to the captain on a personal level despite his rank, but it was never quite as good. However, once the show found it's stride they redid the dynamic. Geordi/Worf never questioned the captain and Riker/Troi were always professional, Data had no boundaries and Guinan/Crusher became the only close relationships. Later they had the characters grow. Riker/Troi were shown teasing Picard on "Picard Day" and Picard actually admitted he found Wesley annoying when they first met which allowed their relationship and respect to grow. Finally at the end of "All Good Things" Picard opens up to the last 2 crewmembers Worf/Geordi over poker and they become more friends that subordinates. Of course, the show ended and the movies were written by different people who did not understand the dynamic at all and Stewart demanded Picard be reinvented as an Action Hero instead of a stoic chair sitting captain and he tried to outshine his costars and nearly got Marina fired via pay cuts and then refused to have anyone but Brent Spiner return for the first 2 seasons of Picard and 7 years of character growth were shattered by one actor's ego.

Security aboard the Enterprise is a joke. There's an episode (I think near the end of season 2?) where some cryogenically frozen people from the 20th century are thawed and brought aboard. An economist, naturally, starts causing problems and is able to just go up to the bridge, after having prior opened comms with it earlier in the episode. It's amazing what gates you leave open when you don't fear people abusing their power.

@@lilwyvern4 The Enterprise is a 24th-century ship that does not appear to even have surveillance cameras for monitoring their public areas. The average 1980s shopping mall had a better video surveillance system than the flagship of the Federation.

The women's trousers that go up to the armpits from the '90s are for some reason the only ones they can buy in shops now. Fashion is cyclical it would seem.

That was a fun episode, and a bit of a prototype of all good things in that there was a triple time convergence with the central age being the present present

You know when your brain just disengages? I knew I was watching an intake, I'm obviously here at all because I love Star Trek and am very familiar with it, yet when the door first opened I heard a Minecraft spider hissing and for half a second there was ready to defend myself. Honestly, what a loser 😂

Idk man. You trained your brain to react to a specific stimulus. It's like how kids will laugh at another kid they made flinch. "Why are you laughing; I'm ready." So don't be down on yourself for functioning they way that you've trained yourself to. If anything, let this serve to remind you that you may train yourself to react to *any* stimuli.

Later takes had him trying out Bashful, Sleepy, Grumpy, Sneezy and Dopey, but didn't bother with the last one as Gates McFadden had that role sewn up
