When it first aired, I was maybe 5 or 6 at the time, that was a clip I saw out of context and it legitimately haunted me for many years. The only context I could think of at the time that it was a psychopathic Ferengi looking at his collection of actual sliced ears with the cutting tool in hand, and grinning at it all.

Joseph Trojan he was having visions from the prophets where it was back in time on earth, and he was a writer writing about DS9, the publisher wouldnt publish it cuz the captain is black, Sikh was very angry and then the publisher threatened to call the police because of just how mad he got.
