How did you see this 56 years ago? It didn't air on television for the first time until 1988. It was a big deal, Patrick Stewart hosted, saying it had just been compromised and was the first time the public would get to see it.

@@billmilligan7272 1988? Wow, you must mean in the UK! Here they showed it in two parts at the end of, I believe, the first season. Damn, I actually remember riding the bus to school daydreaming about Susan Oliver's character, I forget her name at the moment . .

@@henrybrowne7248 Nope, I watched this in the United States. It was the summer between the end of TNG first season and at the end of The Cage they showed a big teaser trailer for Season two, showing off Will Riker with the beard playing a trombone.. The Cage was just never officially aired until then except as part of The Menagerie. I was so happy that I had gotten to see the "original broadcast" of even one single episode of TOS.

Interesting little factoid - the scientist in the foreground had more appearances on TOS than any non-regular cast member. He was also in "Return of the Archons" and "For the World is Hollow and I have Touched the Sky."

As a youngster, I could never figure out how imagined survivors could think and talk to each other while the landing party was talking to them. It was almost as if they were fully developed men. After watching it several times, it hit me that is how powerful was the Talosians' ability to create illusions, as they could conjur up ones who could think and operate on their own.

Like if they were once in the military or were hams or pilots or something. Yeah, I'm a nerd. This may be common knowledge, but DeForest Kelly served in WWII in the Army Air Force in a motion picture unit. Gene Roddenberry flew 89 combat missions in WWII. He was a B-17 pilot. He later spent 6 years as an LAPD officer. Leonard Nimoy enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1953. There are several other people in different episodes I found. From Wikipedia and other online sources, so..... 🙂
