    I'm not one to really defend CIG cause they are doing a lot of basic things wrong (from even a project management perspective) but in this case i would say ; relax, the patch won't be live until before Invictus launch week; which is LATE MAY. We still got 1 month to go. Each evocati patch seems to add a thing. It's not like engineering was in the first evo 3.23 patches either.

    Solely based off what I saw in this vid, I'm sorta hoping relay replacement isn't the primary activity of the engineer. Power management and component repair are more interesting to me. I think relays going out should be somewhat rare or at least preventable through repair/maintenance. I also think that an engineer tablet of sorts for remote access to the engineering screen would be fantastic. Then if certain systems are lost the tablet could lose connectivity, thus retaining a reason for the engineering station. This could also add depth to whatever tf "e-warfare" is going to be. Hack/jam a ship's internal network to make engineering more difficult for them.

  • @AuricNova

    @AuricNova

    3 ай бұрын

    Also, also... I don't know how I feel about these super important relays being wide open for people to fuck with. I think they should be inside a compartment that we can open and close. This could also be tied into the future ship permissions system so that guests can't just pocket a fuse for shits and giggles.

    I actually prefer the "head-bob" effect, at least while in combat. I doubt you would be completely still in a intense combat situation. Especially in a ship that has a bridge that's going to constantly be peppered with shots. Think of it like "suppressive fire" for those standing aboard a ship in active combat. Now a better change instead of completely removing it is simply adding a chair for the designated person operating the engineering panel. Which should negate any "head-bob" like effects. Although, like it was said in the video, there should be more than one engineering panel in most large ships. So you may not always have that liberty while at an engineering panel. As such, you'll have to deal with a bit of a shake on the screen because you're not grounded like you're supposed to be. I do agree with the mouse part though.

    Even though this could be fun gameplay even planes nowadays already have redudancy of between 2 to 3 back ups in place. For example if you would lose that redudancy in an emergency and there would be only one power source remaining (as in the video) that would already trigger pilots to divert to the nearest suitable airport. Now fast forward in the future you'd expect to not lose all power when just one relay goes down. It's quite unrealistic.

    I wonder how NPCs will handle engineering. If engineering is like this , then engineering will be a pain for solo players if they are being attacked and trying to fly away and not just in bigger ships. I hope they make it more manageable or in the future make NPCs be able to reliably help repair. In the end alot of solos spend big money on the big ships and CIG won't make it impossible or they'll lose a lot of money on ship sales h

    The things I see that they can improve on are shwoung which turrets are manned so you can shut down the ones not in use. I would make the relays circuit breakers that you can reset on the screen, but make the components have to be repaired as they take damage.

    Fellow CMDR here: overall, it's all pretty good. Only one issue you will need to get used to is... turning via yaw is equally as powerful as rolling. It's very jarring compared to Elite's handling, but you get used to it. Only issue is that for larger ships (like Anaconda and other large pad ships in equal to Star Citizen), engineering will mean you have to do more run around and multicrew will be absolutely critical. So, just means more Pythons and medium ships equal running around.

    A lot to take in from this video, but the power management reminds me a lot of barotrauma. and engineering in that game is pretty fun. The battery chart with the red line looks awfully similar to the reactor output, and if you didn't have the power consumption follow closely to the power production the junction boxes would suffer (this case relays). I hope it does pan out to be that way, because then pilots who don't erratically spike the power consumption will place less toll on the engineers.

    So the relays are vulnerable when shields are down I’m gathering. So if you catch someone in nav mode and they don’t see you right away they are in serious trouble. This makes being sneaky with a Sabre rewarding 🤔.

    need someone to do some tests on ballistic ttk for relays, seems a little fragile, are other things affecting their hp? is it easier to disable a ship by knocking relays than it is with distortions? how will CIG balance this? will none of the hp matter after malstrom is put in or whatever their new physics engine is called?

    It would be cool if they had smaller relays in cockpits of fighters so when one dies, it pops and sparks beside the pilot, and you have to let go of the controls and replace it with one in the glove compartment or something. 😆

    maybe a animation like clearing the jammed gun but its them fumbling with the fuse and controls are sluggish or so on being attacked coudl slow down the repair timer or time to hold the button or push it back to no progress and have to bail from fight just to replace the fuse

  • @mark3921

    I agree with a lot of comments here. Mid combat engineering sounds annoying, tedious and not sustainable. Having said that, post combat repairing has lots of potential. For example, having either survived or escaped a fight, you cant make your destination, so you have to set down on a near by planet or power down your ship and make repairs. This can encourage random exploration while the ship is being repaired. Just my 2 cents.

    After reading the few or so comments that were initially posted on this video, I can honestly say that I am genuinely baffled at the fact that so many people have such criticism to add to this game loop ( feature) , but refuse to provide a reasonable expectation to how such a system would otherwise work. Im not trying to be rude but I'm genuinely curious about how those those of you who are against this feature, think that massive ships that are 100's of meters with multiple stories , would not only find balance within a combative scenario, but also within the overall space of professions and careers that star citizen plans to have. Star Citizen has a slew of other "Immersive" features that can be seen as excessively realistic and often times boring. IMO this is not one of them, it serves the function of not only providing players with an avenue through which they can be an influential part of a crew , while also providing an interesting gameplay loop that ties into Vehicle Kits, Item Progression, Player Proficiency, Combat Awareness, Interdisciplinary Player Interaction, etc. I just wish people would list their grievances with viable alternatives, rather than calling something that is in early testing phase , boring.

    At times it seems the star citizen community seem to forget what a mmo is. (or never really played one before.) People have viewed it like some lobby based shooter where teamwork doesn't really matter. An I guess thought the stuff CIG said they would do would never go that root or something. (There was plans for engineering way back and talked about removing and so on more detailed then this.)
