    Thanks 😁. Your right, I don't think this is the best type of vice for model engineering. But it's designed more for construction site or bench woodworking. The jaws just wouldn't be good enough. I think you need a more traditional engineers vice. Thanks for watching 😁👍

    Cheers for reviewing. Did you ever get the jaws to align? What material did you use for the shim, if so? Mine just arrived and saw the alignment but don't want to back it if I don't have to.

  • @Drokkstar_

    @Drokkstar_

    Been looking at it and I can't see how to shim it without weakening it. The actual jaw material isn't shaped right and looks like a design flaw. Seems most people have had the same problem. Wish I'd read the reviews more thoroughly before I bought it!

    @@Drokkstar_ Hi Toby. I have not shimmed the jaws as I have only used it for holding rough work where the jaw alignment is not critical. For general use like that it is a great bit of kit. For anything more refined I think an engineer's vice is the way to go. It's a shame about the jaws but it's still a very usefully addition to my workbench. Thanks for watching Toby 😁👍

    🤔 I love this thing for general workshop tasks. But for any work on pickups I don't think this is the best choice. Sounds like you would be better off with a proper engineering vice. Which would give you more precise holding. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching 😁👍

    Second vice you showed, do you know how to use it, I think not. So I will tell you. Clamp vice to bench, I think you can do that as I saw you do it. Now have a look at the vice really hard, notice it ha a ball structure half way up, now look at the front halfway up you will see a lever, move lever to unlock ball joint, now you can move jaws into all sorts of positions then you lock the ball with lever. Pattern makers vice.

    Robin ? I think you completely missed the point. Please re-watch the video. The point i made regarding the second vice was it only has one point of contact with the bench.... not how the vice functions. With a single point of contact with a rubber pad on a wooden bench in a dusty wood working shop.... it will move. Regarding knowing how to use a vice, if I can't use one after using one almost daily for 40 odd years I think I must be an extremely slow learner 🤔. Thanks for watching.

    I have this....do you think it's strong enough to use for my prop shaft centre bearing replacement job? I need to put the car prop shaft in the vice and hammer the spline apart with force? (or do i need to invest in an old school vice?) kzread.info/dash/bejne/aaB41JJmetuedsY.html

    Hi Rob 😁. Thanks for the question. This is not the vice you need for your prop repair ☹. You will need something much more robust for that. Yes an old school cast type engineers vice is what you need, an old Record type vice would be best. Don't get a cheap new one... you will be disappointed, have a look on Ebay for something heavy and old... you will love it. Thanks Rob, let me know how you get on. Thanks for watching 😁👍.
