Stanley Kubrick - Art of the Frame

Фильм және анимация

In spite of decades of film bringing to light several masterful directors, there are few directors who have been as artistic and precise as Stanley Kubrick. His films all stand out in individual ways in regards to genre and storytelling. But for this video I'd like to break down Kubrick's direction style and take a look at how he directs a scene like a work of art.
All footage used to make this video is intended for the purpose of entertainment and film criticism. I in no way claim ownership of any footage used in this video.

7:15 this is a really interesting point, the more 'insane' the character becomes the more 'aware' they become of the viewer. I always felt like his films placed the audience on the outside looking in, then the characters are on the inside looking out. When the character looks into the lens, the 4th wall isn't necessarily broken, instead a sort of bond is created where both myself and the character have become detached from our worlds and we are meeting in the middle.

Have you ever seen how he edits a seen? It's one of the greatest things I've ever seen. They just made a documentary about it with all never before seen footage. Best thing I've seen in years.

Fantastic video. You did a great job of breaking down the simplicity of Kubricks approach to framing.

Great analysis. I have a hard time describing why I love Kubrick's cinematography so much and this helped me find the words. A true craftsman.

Lots of people talk about 2001 or The Shining but I think Dr Strangelove is his underrated work that has a message which is relevant to this day.

Kubrick did use Speilberg style oners at times. Look at the opening scene of eyes wide shut. No technique is off limits for him as there are no rules to good art only what best fits scene and desired feelings.

Actually the one point perspective that Kubrick used to use is a drawing technique

But his movies' screenplay has so much lag and are boring too.
