Ray Gomez..................what a incredible guitarist. It just shows you that great talent and great fame and fortune do not always go hand in hand.

True here it is 2023 and i still love real playing
Awesome. Ray Gomez is one of the greatest most underrated guitarist. I saw them in 1977 at the Paladium in NYC. He blew me away. . These are the best musicians of their time
Ray Gomez. Wow. Only guy who can jump on stage, borrow Holdsworth's guitar, and steal the show. NYC 1988. Unforgettable.
Ray, one of the best guitarists in the world, yet still very much unknown.
MONSTER OF GUITAR ...RAY GOMEZ
Gomez is the reason I wanted to play, and did. Thanks Ray.
Man Ray Gomez is 🔥🔥🔥
Raymond Gomez one of the best guitarists at that time for jazz rock. I wondered where he disappeared. Seen him live several times with Stanley Clarke.
Fantastic musicianship from the whole band - great song too. Ray Gomez is incredibly underrated.

ray, played great on this record !
Ray's solo is just so raw and intense....
To this day you can’t find Ray Gomez on Wikipedia but I credit him as one of the musicians who made a major impact on my life and gave me sage advice on how to follow my dreams. Hope someday he reads this so he’ll know how much I appreciate him.

Yes, I was just looking for Ray's wiki....wth? Btw, does that drummer have a KSHE Pig hat on? I'm here via Mickeyd's youtube channel after having heard Ray's old tune "Make Your Move" which rattled my memory and brain and off to find more. Back when radio djs actually took the time to put out new grooves, mine was KSHE.

He's got his own page and website.
incredible what 4 strings in the right hands can do.
I can just listen and listen to this classic
I would have loved to see a side by side performance with Stanley and Jaco! MAN that would be a classic match.
Most excellent stuff. I get flashbacks just looking at Ray's hair! the good old days, now.
I don't know a damn thing about a guitar or a bass but I believe these guys do! Absolutely mesmerizing.
I saw stanley clarke as the opening act for bob marley and the wailers, 1979 in the old capital arena, both were magnificent, what performances, left there in a cloud of smoke...history.....
Ray just killed that guitar. He's got it
fantastic chemistry
Saw these guys at the Botton Line in NYC, one of the highlights of my young musical life.
Sensational!!!! Currently working on an album saluting Stanley and the late George Duke. Thanks for posting!!!!
What amazing beautiful piece of music ! ahead of its time for 1977 ! school days ! the record stores featured this record as a top seller !
Saw them at the Orpheum theater in Boston mid 1980s what a show!
Underrated as hell
Daaaamn that was excellent
Beasts Stanley Clarke and Ray Gomez on Guitar his playing is epic also another Guitarist I Loved he played with was Bill Conners
I just recently started listening to Ray Gomez and I'm really digging him!
Wow. Just wow. I just rewound this four times in a row to about 3:21. For myself, nothing is better than when a musician whose work you enjoy and admire and respect make it obvious to his audience that he's having a great time too. There's a similar moment at about 9:17. Stanley brings the whole band back into the main riff with both feet and as he does he watches to his right at Mr Gomez, and a grin pops up and you know they just absolutely nailed what they wanted to do... Thanks for the post
whoa... the stanley clark big band !!
Ray Gomez owning it!
Man mind blowing when I was in College and High School in the 70's
Thanks for posting, fantastic player, great instrumental.
Ray kills it!
Those were the DAZES of fusion 🔥
Exemplary showcase. This piece is still awesome, almost forty years later.
9 minutes of this is not long enough! Wow!
Woa! That wind section with piccolo trumpet!
I've enjoyed Stanley Clarke's School Days album since music school in the 1980s. I always thought the guitarist was Icarus Johnson on this track based on the liner notes, and only for the last half dozen years or so have I known it was Ray Gomez. He is badass. Terrific. So emotional, fiery. Such a match for Stanley Clarke. I think I would have enjoyed seeing him like I took in Mike Stern at many live shows. More so maybe.

Don't know why you thought that (?) The liner notes clearly say Icarus Johnson on Life Is Just a Game. With Ray Gomez on School Days, the Dancer, and Hot Fun. Ray also plays on the live tracks of- 'I Wanna Play For You' album, School Days and Quiet Afternoon, which is really great. Check it out.
this was an incredible time...

A new álbum???
i love this because it felt just like my 70's school daze. Dont know if its the same for kids today because music today seems not be written not as an interpretive visceral soundtrack but as a fad.
I like the change-up when the hornes all blew at 6:20
they hit it OUT THE PARK on this one !!!!!
Gerry Brown on drums. Gomez rocks!
What ever happened to Ray? He was awesome!!
Incredibly underrated guitarist. I saw this lineup at the Hammersmith odeon London, Brand X supporting! 🤪

I was there that night!
Fabulous ✨
@phrygian3rd at 4.39 he really let´s everyone know what they are up against ... ! No pedals, no tricks ... sheer hardwork and immense talent.
Fabulous stuff
I already know enough about guitar. I can't hear the keyboard good enough and the interplay of keyboard with Stanley Clarke. That's what I want to hear.
I remember when FM rock stations had the guts to play this song.
Not to those in the know. He's always been one of my very favorites.
Good stuff
GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY !!!!!!
Awsome!!!!
Gerry Brown and Raymon Gomez. kill it. j . Blue
Excelentes músicos!
And this Ray Gomez
everyone: omg ray gomez is the best me: *literally just here for stanley clarke*
Don t forget the drummer, Gerry Brown , a great one !!!
Still is awesome.
King Ray - he´s so good. We just named him Jeff Beck Laughlin.
Gerry Brown on drums! ,!!
I think it is Ray Gomez and in fact .. I know ray Gomez and he thinks it´s him too. He he. That is most certainly the one and only Ray Gomez - there isn´t anybody else - then or now - who can do it like that.

What Ray Gomez plays on the Narada album Garden of Love-light is classic - is Mr Gomez also on some Stevie Wonder tracks of the day? Walter Becker or Todd Rundgren (guitarist producer arranger composers) I bet loved Gomez. Such a catchy way he got into this solo here. Unless Gomez like Hendrix finds too many blues fingerings, to some jazz listeners, would not agree - to me the cat is dramatic and easily employs more angular. Eastern modes when called for.
Hey thinking on it i seen this before years back but dam the sound great and i am checking this out year 2022
The Master of Bass..
love the sequence starting from minute 6:00. minutes..... ahead. uhuuu cool
I heard Stanley say that drummer Lenny White recommended Gomez to him. Stanley was going to have Jon McLaughlin play School Days on the album, but after hearing Gomez play it in the studio as great as Jon was/is he wanted to record Gomez for School Days....lol.
Ésto es pura caña, músicos de mucha calidad...
Wow thanks a whole lot now the sound man is good and he got some bad dudes as well
Ray Gomez 👍👍👍
Mais qu'il est bon le niçois Ray gomez!!!!!!!
I didn't know Doug Henning played the friggen keyboards too!
I could write this Comment on any music video on KZread: I'm so, so glad that the world's gone digital and international because it's now almost certain that everything uploaded will persist - in digital form - for ever. Somewhere. No need to worry about great artists like Zappa or Buddy Rich or Elli P being forgotten. [Hey, relax, I'm kidding!] The original recordings of performances and collections of rare vinyl may be lost in a fire; old tapes may be erased in error; Super 8 film footage may degrade or be hidden away by some jealous collector, but EVERYTHING that's great (and a lot that's not so great) is 'out there', somewhere - uploaded, downloaded, reproduced and stored in myriad forms. The past's secure in the future because it would be impossible to track down and destroy every instance of something once it's been set free. Yep, even my dodgy musical efforts. ;-)

"Rare vinyl?" it is a shame that you didn't mention that your ears, like vinyl, are ANALOG! Not to mention that digital storage isn't immune from HDD failure, screwed up FAT, or any of another zillion failures.
I was to a S.Clark concert in Falkoner Theater in Copenhagen in the 70 also with G.Brown on drums, but i am wondering if it was the same group, anyway super concert.
That strat is screaming.
Fim de papo,, é muito bom
That's Ray Gomez all right - he has posted a pic of that blue strat on his facebook page recently.
😍

Ray Gomez amazing, there almost was a band which included Bill Bruford & Jeff Berlin, any recordings on their time together?
I want an Alembic period!
