I made a mod to my Stanley cup that doesn't require any additional "things" to make it work. It isn't my idea and I can't remember the YTer that posted the method, but it's brilliant, as you lot would say! He simply folded the cup's handle over the top until the looped end was centered in the air over the cup. He marked that spot on the plate that the handle hinges on and serves to lock the handle in its open and stored positions and then used a Dreemel Tool to grind two additional notches in it to lock the handle in that intermediate position. If you hook the handle with a stick or suspend it from a tripod with a cord or hook, from that point, it will balance in all directions, even better than it would with a common bail, with no added parts or holes required. I thought is was genius. I expect that a small rotary burr chucked up in the same drill that you used to drill your holes would work in place of a Dreemel, if you don't have one. Cover up those holes that cause your regrets with some aluminium HVAC tape.

I always appreciate the experience of others with the Stanley Cook Set; thanks for adding your thoughts. I have found that, if you replace the plastic tab on the top with a keyring, you can then close the handle under the key ring, lock the handle, and hang the pot by the keyring. I've done this a dozen times or more, and, even with a full pot, waiting for a boil, it holds. I wouldn't shake it vigorously, but when you lock the handle by pushing the little thing that locks it, it will hold its weight in water, and you do not need to drill a hole to hang a bail. At any rate, that's my two cents; thank you for sharing yours.

@@RedBranchBushcraft If you use a #2 S-biner clip, the clip fits neatly under the handle clamp for the Stanley cook kit, and you can easily clip or unclip it as needed. Also, the S-clip doesn't sit quite flat on the lid of the cook kit, so it doesn't get as hot. Much better than a key ring. ------ Where did you say you got that pouch for your cook kit? Take a length of thin chain with small “s” hooks at each end. Wrap one end around the pot under the handle and secure the “s” hook to the chain so that it is on one side (not under the handle or on the front side). Then take the other end of the chain and hook it on the opposite side to the chain that has been wrapped around the pot. This forms the bail and you don’t need to drill any holes. Wrapping the chain tight enough so it will not slip up off the pot ( that is why you wrap it under the handle). Try it with paracord first to get the chain length you need, then buy the chain.

Then after folding up the ends of the top handle I soldered them closed, along with the twisted together bailing wire end!...worked great, down fall was that I forgot to file the sharp edges of the bailing wire the was cut with side cutters. I used this for 5 years when I was in the Marines, then one day it turned up missing... I wonder why!
