I know what you are saying and it is enchanting, but white tie events are very formal and not for ordinary people to wear for the most part. It could be either "holdover" events when white tie was prevalent and still host them today such as Gridiron Club and Al Smith memorial dinners in which the nation's elite is invited. It is also for royal occasions and for hosting Viennese-like balls such as the one you see here. Even thought they are the most formal, they are also the most limiting as well. These consist of tuxedo pants with a sharp cut with tails, a marcella shirt with detachable collar and shirt cuffs. You must wear a undershirt because the waist vest is starched and will abrase the nipples. The shirt technically does not have buttons but studs made from mother of pearl and so are the cufflinks. The shoes are oxfords with no broguing and must have a shine. You cannot wear a wristwatch but carry a golden pocket watch with only a chain exposed. A man should not be carrying anything on his person, but if he must, the jetted pockets are in the seat pocket behind the tails? White Goat gloves, silk top hat, and silk scarf is welcomed. A beautifully-made fake flower called a boutonniere is on the lapel which is inserted through the slit. Finally a pocket square which is not a handkerchief but thin and supple clothing folded in a pocket is in white tie. Even though white tie is a relevant dress code, it is also on the ragged edge of vintage so Jazz, Mariachi, Country Western, Rock and Roll, Rap/Hip Hop, EDM is not accepted as a musical composition or dance. Only classical music and waltz is allowed. If you like proms and other formals, just stick to black tie since it is more versatile than white tie. The asking price for the whole ensemble without gloves, hat, scarf or timepiece is over 10,000 dollars. So yeah, quite an investment.

Much better than dancing with the stars. Class, elegance, and modesty with no bump and grind moves. Love it!

How graceful! Brought tears to my eyes. These are definately not the kids who go out smashing letterboxes and painting grafiti on walls. So good to see this sort of dancing is still happening. Well done!

This Viennese Ball is organized by Stanford students and alumni. It's held every year in February in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have updated the details of this video with a website that has more information about the ball.

It is something amazing, in my opinion it is the one of the best Openinig Waltz I have ever seen

mesmerizing! it really makes me wish I had been able to attend Stanford and really comforted that I'm not the only appreciator in my age group of Classical court style ballroom dancing . . . so beautiful. and you could tell everyone loved doing the dance, the joy just radiated from everyone :-) thanks so much for uploading the video :-D

Enchanting! Brings back memories some 60 years ago! I watch this video often and it is good to see these young people enjoying the classics.

Viennese Waltzes are the most beautiful mode of dance created, along with the music used. It is truly sad that we humans have decided that these "old" forms of dance and music should relegated to the dustbin of history. Even though I am a diehard fan of USC, I do applaud the Students of Stanford University for this most wonderful video.

completely thrilled with such perfection!

Amongst all the female dancers, one I think stood out. She was the one (in white) dancing with the guy (in black) with the bushy hair. This couple came into the center of the video at 2:48 and 4:08 min of the video. I think the female dancer must have had some ballet training. The grace in her body movements and the way she moved her arms were beautiful and really set her apart.

Modern gatherings are boring indeed, but then there is a desperate yearning by the great mass of the population to abolish elite gatherings in favour culturally Marxist social events such as charity fund raising runs and diversity celebration events which by their inclusiveness have to be rather dull and staid occasions.

Not a city--one of the finest universities in the USA. Check it out on the internet--insanely satisfying old world spanish architecture. This phenomenon is due largely to one teacher at stanford: Richard Powers.
